league needs to be on the front foot with the offending clubs. Don’t like it? Sell the team

Sure. But the league doesn't need to MANDATE it. Its self-evident. If a club like Portland does away with their academy, or a club chooses not to start a fully integrated reserve team, they'll be at a colossal competitive disadvantage moving forward. Something they'll realize very quickly as the competition blows by the. The academy to USL Reserve team to MLS first team pathway for players………..to Europe/Mexico move for some...…………….is absolutely crucial for successful clubs.

Also, I won't be surprised if more clubs find their own Euro or Mexico youth development partners like FCD has with Bayern (and NYRB?NYCFC has with their "parent" clubs.)

I think some owners have made it clear from their actions that there are certain things that need to be shoved down their throats by the rest of the league.

What’s more is that if you allow some owners to unwisely shut down their academy, you are depriving large numbers of you players a clear pathway to the pros.

Players can move to other cities but that’s not a realistic option for everyone. It’s a good safety valve but it’s not good as a norm.

Even a team that is doing academy stuff kicking and screaming like probably Chicago, is signing kids because they happen to be lying around.

I know it's a preseason game against a Japanese lower division team but this goal from Bofo was terrific.

And the secondary assist was 97 Tate Schmitt, who has gotten a lot of minutes in preseason.

He’s a very fun player to watch when he’s on his game.

The problem was his inconsistency last season.

FCD playing these friendlies with an extremely heavy heart. Fernando's influence on the youth culture cannot be understated.

Pomykal starting ahead of Aranguiz and Hayes starting ahead of Servania. This looks to be their starting lineup. Cannon also starts.

    Booth is listed as injured.

Pomykal contributed in the build up to the second goal with some nice control of the ball in a tight space around the box, but it was mainly nice combination play between Hayes and Badji.

Looks like the starting Xi, but there's a lot of depth in that central midfield area. There's another game right after this one, so who knows. We'll hopefully see a Servania-Aranguiiz combo in central midfield in that one. Hopefully we'll get to see Cerrillo and Roberts as well.

This Bayern U23 team is awful. 3-0 right now in about the 22nd minute.

4-0 FCD over Bayern II at the half.
Goals by Badji, Hayes, Ziegler, Mosquera.

Cannon was fine. Pomykal was fine. Nothing really to report. Pomykal involved in the 2nd goal. Looks like he belongs, but he did that last preseason. Nothing really to make you JUMP out of your seat.

THis Bayern II team is surprisingly poor. And this should be a mid-season Bayern II versus a pre-season FCD.

Hopefully we'll see a bunch of youngsters in the 2nd half now for FCD.

Weird to me that Tab really hasn't rated Sands at all. James's only chance of making the U20 WC is by being a weekly starter for NYCFC, and even then I'm not positive Tab would still call him in. I rate him above Servania by quite a bit.

Plus he has versatility to play CB, a position we don't have a lot of depth and always important to have versatile players with 18-man field player rosters.

Pomykal has been too quiet. He’s not making errors, but they are playing a fourth division team. Not his best performance.

Pomykol was tidy, worked hard, and intercepted the ball, but couldn't pick it off players, his passing was very basic, and he didn't take anybody off the dribble. Hopefully he's not another American 8/10 tweener when competing against men. It looked so much different in the u20 CONCACAFships.

Hayes was real solid. Old man game from a young man. Just smart positioning, plays hard, sensible passing, occasionally nips in for a steal, and gets on the end of balls for scoring chances.

I think Ferreira may have to move inside eventually. More a small poacher like Soto instead of a wing creator. Mentioned on the broadcast he was the best finisher on the team last season.

Cannon had a meh performance. Got caught napping in getting beat far post. That will cost you against better opposition. Didn't get home with the press, and passing was decent, but didn't get up the line and no killer balls. Hollingshead was superior on the other side, and I still for the life of me can't understand why he's been relegated to rotational player the last few years.

Same lineup for FCD at the start against San Antonio that finished against Bayern. The change is that John Nelson has moved to CB (due to an injury to Callum Montgomery). He seems to be able to play all along the backline. I was impressed him against Bayern.

No Ethan Bryant to start the game for San Antonio.

While I agree with you about how Pomykal played, I don't see the need to overreact to a preseason game. He's played excellent in preseason in recent seasons, and hasn't received playing time, so FC Dallas doesn't seem to take that much stock over preseason form.

Hayes isn't thread eligible. He's a '95. Hollingshead isn't thread eligible either, although I'm sure you knew that. I suspect you added them here purposefully, but in case anyone gets confused (because its close with Hayes), he isn't eligible.

Ferreira is a central player. They are using him out wide due to positional considerations. I also wouldn't consider Soto a "small poacher", considering he's 6'0 and very strong with an excellent aerial game and hold up play.

Roberts needs plenty of time in the USL to start the season. Game is too fast for him right now even at that level. Only way he's going to improve is by playing. Doubt he impressed the Bayern Munchen scouts who stuck around. Maybe that unnerved him. First time ever seeing him in a live match.

He already trained with them for a couple weeks a few months ago. I'm sure they already have an opinion of him.
