I don't want Kovacic brought back. If he couldn't break through at Chelsea then he doesn't have the level to at Madrid.

I do feel one of Modric or Kroos has to give way so we can move forward the future. Neither player would be open to being a sub.

Replace James with Isco and the same applies, and that is the point I'm trying to make. Sure, James is probably the more talented player, but I think he'd suffer the same fate as Isco. In their best form, James is better in the opposition half, Isco is probably a harder worker over the pitch, but I think wherever you play them outside their natural position, there would be better, and more natural options.

Let's see who the coach is first.

I still really like the player, and I don't hold this season against him mainly because the style they're forcing him to play. They're suppressing his best assets. I do hold the choices he made in the summer against him, but if he has learned his lesson, I'd welcome him back with open arms.

The thing i'm mostly interested right now would be finding 1 or 2 suitable midfielders that can play along Casemiro AND Llorente. I think the latter can play more centrally and offensively than Casemiro. Two from the likes of Eriksen, Ceballos, Kroos or James in front of them could do a lot of damage to the opponent.

I'd hate to see one of them leave.

Agreed. Llorente has been super impressive. We have a gem in our hands with that kid, especially if you look at the prices that players like Frenkie etc. go for nowadays. He is strong, fast, can pass, can defend, has high IQ, is a true Madridista and (I know Perez appreciates this) looks good. A must-keep IMO.

Been saying it for sometime, Llorente is going to score goals AND provide the defensive work. He's pretty much a complete midfielder, he can dribble, shoot, hold up ball under pressure, positions himself well, provides outlets, only question for me is his range of passing ability. Even a double pivot with him and Casemiro could work but mostly he provides a lot of tactical flexibility as he literally can slot in so many roles in a pinch. He just need minutes and he's going to develop into a fantastic player.

Llorente/Ceballos nothing compare to Kroos, nothing. they still not in the same level and should play consistently good at least couple seasons to even try to reach what Kroos gave to this team. Seriously, nonsense.

The kid seems to be stupendously talented. However we have enough wide attackers.

Can he really embrace playing centrally as a CF with two wide men like Vinicius, Hazard, Rodrygo, etc?

I don't watch Portuguese Liga, so I don't know anythong about him. Most of the highlights I have seen he is playing wide or off if another forward.

Its nice to have a number 10 instead of playing the same way week in week out, but is he willing to accept a bench role?

By such reasoning we can keep both Kroos and Modrić until they are 50. You know because of what they gave to this team. And i thought we learned a lesson in past two years - especially this one, of what happens when you are stuck in the past.

The reality of situation is that both Kroos and Modrić are among worst performers in the season and it is not a short term anomaly as much as our problems upfront are not. We need changes. It is either Kroos or Modrić, take your pick.

As for Ceballos and Llorente. They have proven consistently that they have quality to be starters in Madrid. As such, wtf are you talking about? Secondly, with possibility of both Kroos / Modrić and Isco leaving, we are signing new midfielder - possibly Eriksen. I would sign on Eriksen / Kroos swap.

Kroos is not going to Spurs. Lol. It's a big step down to him. I think Ceballos/Llorente have been proven excellent alternatives for Kroos/Casemiro. Modric is a level above the rest. Sure he has his bad days, but he is so well-round midfielder it's tough to find a replacement. Modric vision, passing range, defensive awareness and experience is still too good to let go of him. He can play at this level for 2-3 more years.

Modric has had a bad half of the season.. not just "bad days".

These guys are institutions but they can't play like this forever. With Kroos it seems motivation is an issue because he should still have at least two good seasons, but what is the point if he will only play well 1/3 of each one?

Caballos, Llorente, Kroos, Casemiro, Modric in addition to a young Valverde is fine going into next season when you think about it, however Modric will play less. The other 4 will rotate. Valverde will get some chances also.

Kroos is 29, Eriksen is 27 so where's the logic in that? He's not exactly way younger and a player like Kroos can play till his mid 30s at a good level.

Swap as in replace. Not send him to Spurs. As if he would agree to go to Spurs. o_O

Modrić is well past just having bad days. It seems we are planing to do the same mistake with our midfield as we did with forwards. Great.

It really will depend what Tottenham ask for Eriksen.

Eriksen is on upward trend towards peak. Kroos is past his peak in RM for various reasons as mentioned before. Also being two years younger is substantial difference in late twenties.

No Isco, no add-ons. In my book this midfield is even weaker than today`s.

Secondly. Playing less is wide term. There is a difference between still being a starter but with more rotation, or being purely rotational player. You think Modrić let alone Kroos would accept that?

If Kroos doesn't want to leave, you can't make him. He has a family, wife and children so it's not like you can tell him he won't play, because he knows he will, he's good enough. You can only tell him that he's free to listen to offers, so you're relying on him getting a better offer than what he's making in Madrid, in a City that his family would like to move to.

    Pretty tricky question.

Same logic applies to every fixed starter in Madrid really.

I am certainly happy to see these younger players like Llorente and Ceballos give me a consistently good season of football, maybe even win a trophy or two before I am willing to throw away talent like Toni Kroos or Luka Modric, a mixture of young and established is what I prefer ( one learns from the other), not completely getting rid of a quality player who is a proven talent at 29, so that I can play youngsters who have looked decent so far this season, but a season that hasn’t gone that well up to recently to be honest, for either young or older players as a team, my view,

To be honest, Toni Kroos is indispensable for me. Nothing else to add really.

Not really, the less settled a player is, the easier this works. Özil and didn't really care that much about leaving because it was just him making.a decision.
