DEFENCE; totally disagree, Germany could do what most other do whrn, you got time to set your defence; go into a straight 2 line, 4 players each rectangular shape. In fact Russia went into a 2 line/5 players when they beat Spain at last year's men's WC. This is meant to of course close down the passing lanes.
I fear MTV is going to let Elsig have to deal with everything by herself(just like last game or the way she did with her Swiss team with Walti in similar position since the other CB, Kiwic, proved useless on defence)

lol, yeah... it reads like Peter genuinely believes MVT made some kind of mistake, and forget to tell her best defender why she's not taking part in her first training camp with the senior team...

With the part MVT supposedly told her why she's not there being pretty insightful, as Peter's reaction comes across slightly delusional lol; talking about there being no reason why she can't return lol.

As long as MVT uses a CAM and a true dedicated DM, I think the mid-field will be stronger regardless of Popp's future role on the team.

However, looking at the current CM options in MVT's first squad, they may not need Popp in a deeper role anyway, as Goeßling - Leupolz - Pawollek - Hendrich can all provide strong performances in DM roles, with Magull - Lohmann - Dallmann all being strong CAM options too.

And yes, I know Popp's all round ability has seen her manage to produce better or equal individual stats to all those CM options. But it's surely smarter to keep Popp up front and dismiss a forward like T.Knaak from the squad, than lose a strong offensive talent like a Lohmann from any WC plans, all because Popp see's her short term future as a CM....?

So you want the reigning Olympic Gold medalists, multiple world and Euro champ winners, to play the same football as... the Russian men facing Spain during the last WC.... Yeah... I think ideas like this is why the German wnt has been through much recent turmoil lol.

Russia were 64th in the world prior to their WC on home soil, while Spain were ranked 6th; not exactly the best example of the path an established program like Germany should be following for it's #2 ranked women's side, heading into a WC that for all their various issues many will still be expecting them to potentially win.

Actually it as the first time I've seen men play that formation(though I've switched to set thing mostly woso this decade)especially among Asian wNT's.
In fact, even then current world champs, Japan, played that in one friendly at home when they got a red(5 player straight line, then 4 with zero fwds)about 5 years ago, trying to maintain a lead

Ellis/US do move their defence up front a lot, but when a team like Spain take so long to establish it's offense with no surprises, you should be able to get your defence set up quite comfortabably.

Do to some strong copy right infringement/enforcement, got to see Germany only play in the finals. But I do remember that Krahn & Bartusiak were able to hold a straight off sides trap vs Sweden who played with only one runner/striker(Jacobsson). She had a half dozen off sides calls on her. The one time she broke through, (grom along ball)Schulte as able to race off her line & way out of the penalty box with an driving header to clear the ball before Jacobsdon could get to it.

So just saying; big mistake if MVT reverts to a single CB, some it be so easy for an opponent to get the ball behind the lines(which seemed to happen a lot in,the Spain game)

    As for starting lineups; it be hard to 2nd guess before MVT reveals her lineup. Like I've mentioned before, due to changing times, I like yo see a more athletic team for Germany;

    Hendrich......Demann.......Elsig......Schweers
    ............................Leopolz
    Huth..............................................Schuller
    ...........................Dabritz
    .................Dallmann. .....Popp

Using two flat/compact defensive lines of 4, is a pretty well known and established defensive system of play for both male and female teams, trying to withstand superior opposition in hopes of finding success from free kicks, and infrequent counters.

It's just that elite level women's football has struggled with issues of fitness in the past, which has meant it wasn't always a system of play best suited towards teams lower ranked teams attaining any real positive grip over the full course of a 90 mins match.

And I have to say it's pretty weird trying to compare the tactical approach of a full 11 German team, with that of a impaired 10 woman Japan trying to hold on to a slim lead; as the next match the Nadeshiko would have played with a full complement of 11 players on the field, definitely wouldn't have seen them try to repeat being so pointlessly defensive, no?

Changing times for who..? Your posts can often read like condescending summations of elite level women's football, with this latest post like it's based within a realm unaware of reality lol.

I mean you clearly enjoy championing the idea of a certain type of "athleticism" you'd prefer to see more often, and continue to impose this single vision on to Germany's wnt without any true thought, or acknowledgement, of what German players genuine/unique strengths are.

But they've never produced more athletic teams than rival nations like France, Sweden, Norway, Brazil, Canada, meaning these supposed "changing times" are looking pretty familiar to me...:whistling:

Hendrich... I think she's a really good player, but wow... she stinks as a FB lol, and Simon is clearly a better FB than Schweers too. I'm not sure about Demann's fitness either, thinking Demann and Elsig way too similar to ever create a solid CB partnership anyway.

Leupolz isn't better than Goeßling in any area of being a CM/DM, with it being pretty hilarious seeing you leave out a legit world class CAM like Marozsan, so an inconsistent goal threat at the elite level like Dallmann can start up front ahead of her lol.

Oh, with the biggest joke about all of this seeing you use the EXACT same failed formation Jones was trying to impose on the team lol....

tell that to Horst, who in his most important game(the return match vs Iceland) started Leupolz(at DM) over Goessling(who came only in as a sub in the 86th min)
haven't seen them since last summer since when the out of season Lyon looked very underwhelming, loosing to an NC Courage team that had more than half it's starters due to NT duties.

But if you look at the current stats of Lyon, Simon(8 starts) has lost her left FB spot to an 18 year old named Bacha(11 starts). Marozsan is doing fine, but she's been out of the loop right now with the NT; only starting in Horst's first 2 games(& remember she didn't look good at either the SBC or the Euros). I would pick Dabritz at CAM(with Dallmann more coming down the right) I think that's where Dabritz plays best(even though there so many others like Maro, Dallmann, Magull play strongest too(
it don't matter what formation Jones chose(whether it was one DM or two). I was the first one to critize her tactics(that was right before the Denmark/Euro quarters & predicted the eventual loss) that she moved the ball way to slowly up field & had simply no variety in her attack plans, thus it was so easy for the Danes to set up their defense & counter

another odd encounter; in at least 2 of the 3 goals she gave up to Iceland; there's was on CB's to be found!(close by)

Can anybody remember the last time Goeßling was healthy enough to start for the national team within a scenario she wasn't also needed to play CB...?

Plus the idea the themes of one team, during a single match versus Iceland, featuring a coach who's now no longer with the team, will carry over any real significance to the decisions made by MVT, isn't being very honest either... is it..?

MVT just selected her first practice squad, and it featured a new CB/DM option in Pawollek. Almost confirming in one decision that Goeßling's last run with the national team is unlikely to see her abilities incorrectly wasted as a CB, for a squad already likely to feature Elsig - Doorsoun - Deamann - Hendrich.

Oh, and you conveniently forgot Leupolz was also Jones first choice CM during Germany's horror show level defeat at home to Iceland too lol, so you can't have it both ways.....

I honestly don't care about Lyon. Simon was clearly the best domestic LB for consecutive seasons while playing for Freiburg, and I'm not seeing what's changed if we're still comparing her to peers like Schweers, Maier, or Rauch.

And using some goofy friendly competition, then a complete horror show that was the Euro's (a competition where she was used as a DM), is honestly a duo of rather ridiculous scenarios to try and cast doubt on the abilities of Marozsan as Germany's most creative goal scoring AM. (alongside with Popp, she's still the teams current leading scorer)

Yes.. you can ask if Marozsan's ever been able to replicate her club form for the senior team... But I'd also ask how often has she been allowed to play up front in her best role as a CAM...

This knowing the German wnt program crowded with quality CAM's, where the only player with a legitimate claim to Marozsan's potential #10 role is Däbritz. A player who's preference to dribble would probably suggest her a stronger candidate to start as a wide AM.

Yeah... sure, you were the first person to notice and openly criticize Jones tactics.

This being the same avatar who'd later want to provide examples of what a good Germany wnt should look like right now, and couldn't even tell they'd gone and created the EXACT same formation Jones used throughout her truly awful period as the senior wnt coach lol.

Apparently Schult's out for an unknown time due to an illness.

About Simon, she probably lost her starting place because of the injury problems she's had in Lyon. By the way, I watched the training match between Wolfsburg and Frankfurt few days ago, and Gössling was a breath of fresh air in the midfield. And Doorsoun was absolutely HORRENDOUS, and then I mean, she was awful... I don't see how she justifies her starting place over for example Wedemeyer after her performances this season...

    RIP Heidi Mohr.
Not only Europe`s Footballer of the Century, but one of the true trailblazers of German women football.

Oh my! How did she die so young? She had to be in her late 40s or early 50s.

I remember the Germany-Italy games from that era, when Heidi Mohr and Carolina Morace were some of the absolut top-scorers of the game. Mohr was a veritable legend of the women's game and she will be sorely missed.

She passed away due to cancer. She was 51 and the first name I truly remembered when women football in Germany started to be televised.

Well after Dabritz dominating performance st CAM over the weekend, dunno why you & Batfink prefer to go back to Maro & push Sarah to outside(which isn't her strongest suit).
Almost same can be said with Leopolz(who you guys think shouldn't even start). She defended do well in the 1st half. Tanked s little in,the 2nd, but then that's wben you can bring a sub in.
I would of also preferred Dallmann, not WOW after over a 3 month layoff, still not back! Kemme still not back in action(over at Arsenal). Both could loose their chances at making the WC squad

Squad for the upcoming game against France is out: Maier, Dallmann and Petermann out with injuries

Marozsan has resigned as captain and the new captain now is Popp with Huth as co-captain

    No Peter!

But what is Gössling doing in the defense when she should play in midfield...?

What the hell is Knaak still doing in the squad?

I remember seeing DFB-TV showing the extended highlights of the wnt's 1991 Euro final vs Norway, where Heidi Mohr would score twice while looking absolutely unstoppable.

    Sad news....

....:cautious: Dominating performance as a CAM...? LOL, do you understand what a CAM does for a team..?

Marozsan during her time with Frankfurt, Dallmann within Essen's far weaker team, Magull at Freiburg, or Harder within the league best team, all show you the kind of effectiveness you'd typically expect to see from a legitimate CAM playing in this league.

So even if I think Däbritz one of the national teams best players, she simply provided what she's done all season for Bayern, and that's her being able to produce a genuine moment of goal threat no matter where she's deployed in the team.

Very different from being a genuine CAM, and her impressive individual stats this season would seem to attest to that, no?

I think were seeing the early selection of Lattwein and Oberdorf within these squads, as a direct result of of Kemme and Dallmann's long injury absence.

But should Dallmann, Kemme, and even Bremer, all have opportunities to showcase fitness with their clubs, one of them might be able to sneak into the coaches thoughts.
Injury to other CB options seems to constantly force Goeßling back into a defensive role for the national team. However, as long as she stays healthy, I still remain confident she'll be selected as a CM/DM alongside one of Leupolz, Lohmann, Magull, come the WWC.

I still have no idea why Knaak remains part of the squad either lol, but looking at the various names within this latest squad, the surprise late arrival of Hegering looks like Demann is also going to have to fight for a WC spot.

As a DM/CM next to Kulig, I remember Hegering being a key part of the same U-20 championship winning team as Popp, Huth, Maier, Kemme... previously also working with MVT as a youngster at Duisburg too; so it's probably not a real surprise to see her name end up in at least on of MVT's first squads.

But with the various injuries, and the announcement of Popp's new captaincy, I'm more interested to see Marozsan role on this team now.

Looking over in England; both Bremer & Kemme are still not back on the playing field. Bremer been out now for over 1 year & a half, Kemme has gone past the 9 month ACL recovery cycle. Beginning to worry if Dallmann will make it back in time for the WC(as she hasn't come back from the 2 month league layoff)

Got to worry about the upcoming game with France who right now are red hot with zero injuries & a coach who's now knows what she wants & is no more experimenting with new lineups.

It be a miracle if MVT don't get blown out in her debut. I mean even a 1-2 goals loss wouldn't be bad as then she'll have time to build from there.

My biggest fear is that MVT turns out to be a ardent disciple of the almighty Jorgie(who leaves his back virtually defenceless)

Demann and Bühl are back in the squad
Which means that Peter’s still not nominated even when someone nominated can’t go lol

Maier’s injured so that’s why she’s not in the squad
