He's playing about as well as he can play in the league. I haven't watched the group games but it sounds like they are taking a bit of an extreme defensive posture in EL.
They're valuing EL over league so they're going with more rotation in league. They have been pretty consistent with their EL lineups

Game ended 5-1 Malmo, Gall did not get on the score sheet but could have had zero assists or 3, can’t tell from the tweets.

Malmo down 1-0 at halftime. Really should have made it 1-1 in the 38th minute from a free kick, but David Luiz had a great block. They look better than I expected, given how long they've been off for, and are alternating between a high press and a deep defensive block really well. This is a fun game so far, and Malmo looks like a fantastic place to watch a match - the atmosphere is terrific.
Chelsea are turning the screws. 2-0 in the 70th minute but, curiously, no subs for either side. Edit: both just made their first. Malmo's was a change of forwards.
Switched away from Celtic to see if Gall was in (he isn't) and saw Malmo nail a perfect counterattack. 2-1, Christensen with the goal. Edit: GALL IN. 81st minute sub for the goalscorer. From the third tier of Swedish football to playing Chelsea in the knockouts of a continental tournament in a shade over 2 years. What a phenomenal rise.
Great tracking back to prevent a counter; yanked the ball right off of Kante's feet. About a minute later, his pressure forces Azpilicueta into a bad pass that goes out for a throw.
He's playing as the LM (4-4-2) in attack, though Malmo isn't attacking much now, and as a sort of LCM (5-3-2) in defense.
Gall with a nice dribbling move that sends Azpilicueta to the turf, but his long ball attempt after that is easily intercepted.
2-1 final. My posts above are a pretty complete summary of Gall's 10 minute cameo. Good work from him.
Hopefully he gets a March call up he deserves it. I believe Berhalter said he tried to call up Gall for January camp but because of Malmo in Europa league he wasn’t released. Proved to be a good choice since Gall has trouble getting any Europa league minutes before the winter break. Now he just played vs Chelsea. Awesome.
