Very smart. It's very important to test yourself against paid professionals. I imagine Liverpool's thought process is akin to PSG's thinking with Tim Weah. You don't want to end up like a Lletget. After a while in Europe without breaking into the first team, you've gotta find a first team that will give you that professional experience.

BBC.com has an article regarding the Canadian Premier League. Another talking point that the league shared with medias here at home is that they were surprised at the amount of support they got from UEFA top leagues. EPL, Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A are all eager to offer expertise and help CPL grow and contacted the league offering their support and help. You remembered how different MLS reaction was to CPL when it got its sanction from the CSA and CONCACAF. First act from Garber was to minimizeit and put it down publicly which was very disappointing fans. “We want fans from York Region to create a culture, to get local fans to come out and support local football.” - @JimmyBrennan11 chats with @BBCSport on #York9FC & #CanPLhttps://t.co/YtpudbBPH2— York United FC (@yorkutdfc) February 1, 2019
Garber minimized it and put CPL down only in some Canadian fans' heads. Is this what you found so offensive? "Our clubs are interested in understanding how this might impact their second teams, which are very important for the development of their clubs and their player programs."
I didn't say "offensive", I said "disappointing". The league had been clear from the start that reserve teams would not be allowed and was going to get sanctioned as Division 1. Yet, in 2016, he commented on the league calling it lower division publicly while talking about the league impacting MLS reserve teams. Sharp contrast in tone with the other leagues congratulating without the need to make such comments. On an other note, this is a quick view of the signings so far and their nationality #CanPL player signings.🌊 #PacificFC | 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🐰 #FCEd | 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇰🇷🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇹🇹🏴🇪🇸🇧🇪🇨🇦🐎 #CavsFC | 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇧🇷🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🏴🎖 #ForValour | 🇨🇦🏴🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇧🇪9️⃣ #York9FC | 🇨🇦🇸🇪🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇯🇵⚒ #ForgeFC | 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇲🇨🇦🇸🇪⚓️ #HFXWanderersFC | 🇨🇦🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦— CANSOCCER (@cansoccerfeed) February 1, 2019
Maybe the CPL and UEFA and all the other good guys could team up against MLS and show them the error of their ways for not effusively praising a league that hasn't even begun play yet!
Not really but fans of CPL (in the 3 markets) are also fans of MLS in a landslide majority and plan to support both leagues. Making that comment ended up upsetting their own fans. Bill Manning had to retract himself realizing he was upsetting his own fans when he choose to double down. Both should coexist peacefully as they have 2 different mandates and fans are smart enough to understand that, no need to start anything.
I really don't see it as starting something. More of a genuine concern about player development in a scenario where potential academy players are turning pro directly with CPL clubs at 16. Maybe TFC 2 would be better off developing going US players playing in Buffalo. I would think there's some trepidation in Canada about the quality of coaching in CPL. I'm not putting CPL down but it's going to take a while to develop a high quality support mechanism for young players. The US development academy started in 2007 and players still aren't getting the strandard of coaching they would in a top Euro league.
I have yet to see such a specific case. There's one 17 years old that was signed in Halifax but he impressed during the friendly between the Atlantic Canada team and Fortuna Dusseldorf youth team, which they won. We've tried TFC way for over a decade and did not have any results. Time for a different approach. The CSA takes their cue for what works for Canada and wants a Canadian way for developing players. The CHL is a good model to replicate. If you're good enough, you're old enough and hockey players are put through a pretty brutal schedule and lifestyle before hitting the NHL, and it has worked for us all these years. We are going that route. As for famous NHL coaches, they came from the CHL so CPL wont be any different. Is it that we have no good coach or is it that they have nowhere to coach past a certain level? If We aren't the one giving them opportunities, other nations wont do it for us. Not a good way to get the fans to stay loyal to your brand. People care about local content and CPL is adding pressure to the 3 teams to increase their Canadian content. Canada's problem was always the lack of top league and clear pathway to professional soccer, not development. Bobby Smyrtionis who was hired by Hamilton, ran Sigma for years who produce quality players over the years like Larin. In Halifax, Stephen Hart has an extensive resume, Wheeldon lead Calgary Foothills in a dominant run winning the PDL cup with a Canadian Heavy roster. Rob Gale in Winnipeg, managed many Canada U teams. CPL provides the platform for the next generation of Canadian coaches and Executives to excel and get even better, something you can't do without a top league.

Hutchinson scores and Larin plays the last 30 minutes in a 6-2 win for Besiktas. They are back in the Champions League / Europa League qualifications zone. Besiktas is up 3-0 after Atiba finds the net https://t.co/YojQz9KoBD— Canucks Abroad (@Canucks_Abroad) February 3, 2019

I'm suprised he didn't try to get a move to a mid-tier league. With those solid CL appearances; surely some interest.
There was interests but his club is dominating their league and the level is high. Seems that missing the Champions League is not an option for him. Same for Scott Arfield, Burnley wanted him back while other EPL clubs wanted to sign him. He went to Rangers since he'd be the heart of midfield and an Europa to maybe Champions League club, something that Burnley wasn't. I don't disagree with the logic
Canada Soccer successfully integrates 🍁 Men’s EXCEL Program across Canadian MLS academieshttps://t.co/5RE0apke5G #CANMNT pic.twitter.com/GSHGQL9QHR— Canada Soccer (@CanadaSoccerEN) February 5, 2019 The program ensures MLS academies, their coaches, staff, and players work with Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team coaches, understand the National EXCEL philosophy, and the way that Canada play. For Canada Soccer, the program lets National Team coaches understand how MLS academies operate and the conditions in which they work. “This is definitely a first for our country and possibly world-wide and I applaud the MLS clubs for opening their doors to embrace the opportunity,” said John Herdman, Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Head Coach and Men’s EXCEL Program Director. “Their openness and support is sending a message to our country that it’s possible to unite our game at all levels for the purpose of improving development opportunities for our players. “It’s all about creating a synergy so that we can be the best in Concacaf. There are not many clubs around the world that would let international teams come in and take over their coaching environment for a full week, but that’s what we can do differently in Canada and the could be our x-factor within Concacaf.”
