What is your pecking order for next year?

    FSU
    UNC
    ????
Help me out here and feel free to tell me why.

Stanford was considered a near lock this year and look what happened, so FSU
still has to do it on the field at tourney time.
Last I checked, they don't hand out significant trophies before the season.

At this point Pep or Ole can take the Syracuse job and they will still finish in the bottom 2 of the ACC.

UVA had a couple of losses, but not devastating personnel wise.
You can never count Swanson and his crew out.
2 top 25 recruits per TDS.
Duke is another usual suspect. They lost Burns, Racioppi, McCoy
and McDonald. That is substantial. They did have the #5 class per TDS.

I'd put UVA over Duke at this moment.

if we are talking this year, dont think recruiting class will have much impact. UVA lost one starter from a team that beat Duke on the road. On paper UVA >> Duke

I agree about putting UVA over Duke at this time.
That said, I disagree about recruiting classes having an impact.
Last year FSU's recruiting class taking into account Zhao per TDS was #10.
Their June rankings had Jaelin at #2, Lynch at #63 and Pavlisko at 140. Zhao would obviously have been top 5.
All 4 started and FSU does not win the natty without them!
Now if you're saying Duke or UVA's incoming class doesn't look to have the players that will make an impact, I will have to plead ignorance!

you mentioned recruiting class as a reason for your UVA pick. I thought it was pretty clear I was referring to that. nothing else. So if you dont know the class, why would that be part of your reasoning ? Im not talking about FSU. Never mentioned them.

The reason I mentioned recruiting, using FSU last year as an example, is because IT CAN make a huge impact. We had players ranked 63 and 140 make our starting lineup and make an impact.
UVA has 2 top 25 recruits per TDS. Will they make an impact? Your guess about UVA's recruits is better than mine.

Losing only 1 starter bodes well. 1 impact recruit would make tremendous difference. Even more helpful is the year 1 to year 2 improvement from key freshmen and even year to year improvement from upper classmen.

you have taken a specific comment about UVA incoming class and turned it into a disagreement over the impact a class can have. Im not debating that. in order to evaluate what you call the pecking order, surely one needs to have real knowledge about the teams. I sense that anyone who writes FSU,UNC then ......has limited knowledge beyond the history of those 2 teams. That person is approaching it from the perspective of a fan, not someone who actually has analyzed all the teams.

Initially i assumed that you had actually looked at the recruits coming in to UVA or Duke and made an assessment. I realize i was wrong

these classes can be pretty tough to judge. First of take top-drawer with a grain of salt. most of those rankings are a joke anyways. those are just who the club coaches like the best and what they tell top drawer. I know several guys that think its funny and will give top drawer fake rankings just to prove how bad the rankings are.

Also those class rankings very rarely take into account foreign players. mainly because they don't know anything about the foreign players.

More than likely regardless of recruiting class ranks the big dogs in the ACC will find themselves at the top. The ones scrapping to be relevant will land in the middle and the normal bottom dwellers will be back at the bottom again.

Have heard rumors Pitt has like 21 new players coming in for the fall. don't know how that's possible but will be interesting to see how that unfolds.

No you didn't. Or did you? Did you actually assume that? That is not something anyone I know, or might have once known, may one day meet, or have passed on the street would do, not if they read the casual, offhand way he put the question.

If you see no value in an informal poll lacking analytical rigor, allow me to suggest that some people find such speculation to be - stay with me here - 'fun.'

You appear to enjoy getting into pissing contests to loudly proclaim your prowess at in person assessments of many of these girls.
That's good that you have that opportunity. Your knowledge seems to be spot on in most cases I've seen. Kudos!
I started this thread to get people's opinions (light hearted) about who they see moving up or down the ACC food chain.
I gave great deference to your team (insert your disclaimer here) UVA because they lose very little off their team and have a good recruiting class coming in. Good coaches Like Swanson, Dorrance and Krikorian help their returning players make great strides from year to year.
Why you chose to take offense, or at least argue about this is beyond me.
IF you want to start a similar thread and only ask people who have your experience at analyzing and assessing these girls, have at it. You may get SoccerHunter and CP to participate.

My thread is intended for the opinions of those of us with allegiances and loyalties deeper than our in person assessments of incoming freshmen.

Now, the only area I can claim any significant knowledge of, is this past FSU team having watched each match multiple times.

    Have a nice day!

How on earth could any sentient human fail to understand the intent of Tom's post?

Please understand, this is a rhetorical question.

Just responded to a comment.Argue? Where did I argue? Was interested in some basis for your opinions until i realized you had none. I prefer opinions based on some level of knowledge. Seems you have your mind reader buddies lined up to discourage that. The topic said ACC, I assumed it was more than just another rah rah FSU or UNC thread. Clearly its not. I will leave you guys to it.

Why would any sentient human assume that their interpretation of a post on the internet is the only one? Please understand that this is a rhetorical question. The same post in the FSU thread would not have been answered. As I said above, putting in an ACC thread suggested some desire to actually discuss the teams. My bad.

You are rude, argumentative and condescending.
A sample of your responses to me.
"So if you dont know the class, why would that be part of your reasoning ?"

I know them not a personal basis, but on a TDS rankings basis. 2 top 25 recruits is good. Those kinds of players usually make some kind of positive impact on a team. I used FSU as a comparison about 2 25 recruits and how they impacted FSU. (Howell and Zhao were huge parts of why we won a natty) They relegated more experienced players to sub roles. I didn't suggest they Would make that impact at UVA, but that they could.
Again your comment is dismissive and rude.

And... "Initially i assumed that you had actually looked at the recruits coming in to UVA or Duke and made an assessment. I realize i was wrong"
As I mentioned above, I took a look at recruit rankings. They are not perfect, but at least they offer some basis of comparison.
Your comment is again condescending, as in "why am I even talking to you?"

" Where did I argue? Was interested in some basis for your opinions until i realized you had none"
Again condescending, demeaning and uncalled for.
Just because my basis for assessing a team or its incoming class does not include many in person games or detailed game study, doesn't mean I have no basis for my opinions. It's just not the same basis you bring to the table.

In summary you accused me of not knowing the class (ignorant), had no knowledge of incoming class (stupid), and no basis for my opinions (a fool).

Now if you don't understand how that is offensive, then I don't know what to say.

I will not let your rude words affect my admiration of Swanson and what promises to be a very good UVA team.

Not me, I don't do player assessments. Instead, I look at team histories and trends regardless of the individual players coming and going. In my view, individual players coming and going, while of great interest to fans, are of value in assessing how teams will do next year only at the margins. That doesn't mean they're of no value, only that I think they get over-emphasized in considering how a team will do next year.

well Syracuse announced their 2019 signing class today. So they may not have a coach for 2019 but at least they may have a few players still

    Expert help needed!

The ACC/ESPN network is apparently all set to swing into action in three weeks. I am clueless as to how to go about getting on board even as I try to read the various articles as to how to do it.

My dilemma is that there is no cable service where I live (and trees and hills inhibit satellite service) and the only on-line choice is a very slow DSL connection (which when it rains get even slower until one calls the local telephone company and they once again tinker with a switch about two miles away and we get our normal slow service back again.) On a good day, my wife can stream a movie from Netflix with only a few random buffering pauses and it only takes about 15 seconds for a web page to be pulled up when she is watching a movie on her computer...

But I can deal with slow...

My real problem is that I do not know how to investigate my options. Does anyone have any information as to how I can get the ACC network to stream on my computer? Can I get it through my wife's Netflix subscription? (I am really only interested in the ACC network or maybe other NCAA conference networks. I am not interested in TV shows, general news, or movies etc.)

Many thanks in advance to those with a clue who might share some of the secret information.

I stream soccer games on my PC via my ESPN cable subscription. If you don't have cable, you should contact the ACC or ACC Network and ask them, or ESPN. Maybe you can watch ACC games via ESPN+, which carries a lot of games in all sports. It's a subscription service costing, I think, $5 a month or so. Good luck.

I would think your best bet would be ESPN+. You can pretty much stream anything ESPN broadcast with ESPN+. Its $5 a month or you can buy a year upfront for $50. They have a ton of events on there so its really worth the value.
