Better to be lucky than good! The keeper should have stopped that shot but this is Panama and they are also bad.
I don't see how you're making that assessment from one half where Lima didn't shame himself in his debut, and Baird has frankly been quite bright. Shown some creativity, gumption, and agility. Going from this alone, I think he has a future here.
we'd crucify our guy for not stopping that, it went right under him . . . or not, stream is fuzzy as hell
He got stripped by a single defender at the edge of the box, with multiple options. The game is continuing. And on the goal, he missed the guy he was passing to ... he got lucky that Mihailovic popped up behind him. Edit: looking at the goal again,i see that Zardes was still on the ground, so I would hope he wasn't passing to him and maybe DID make more than a blind centering pass that fell to Mihailovic.
Again, the ball was to the keeper's right. He was diving that way when the ball was deflected and went the other way. Not the keeper's fault. Just bad luck.
From watching, Panama have dropped off him because he doesn’t scare them. They play our left side so much tighter. He is making good runs without the ball, but he’s slow of thought with the ball and his touch keeps letting him down. He’s not bad, he’s just not playing up to the level of his teammates. Now, he’s quite young yet, so I’m not writing him off. Just saying that he needs to up his game.
Did we score a goal in the first half? Yes. But we played like a poorly trained bunch of school boys. Only the fact that Panama is absolutely horrible keeps us in possession enough to show exactly how uncreative we are.
I thought the team looked good for a scrimmage.. They also had Bradley in there to direct so hard to tell who may have leadership qualities.
Hard to say for sure, but it was a hard shot that looked to be on frame and could easily have been going in the other side of the goal if not for the deflection. He was lucky that the deflection didn't take it totally off course, I guess...
Well, I think you could say that about prime Clint Dempsey (not implying that's his future). He looks confused precisely what move to make, but because of the aggression sometimes it comes off anyways and creates a chance, other times it's a TO, he knows how to show up in dangerous positions, and he doesn't hesitate in shooting, just has been a little off the mark (it'll come). As for Lima, some really promising play toward the end of that half, slipping a few key passes in before the defense could react, being influential in chances. Not everybody sees those.
Lima is not on the wing, genius. He is tucked in next to Bradley. Baird is the wing player on that side. More of a 343 (3223) with Roldan & Mihalovich more advanced than Mikey & Lima.
