I view Parks as a poor man's De Bruyne, so the NYCFC kit should fit him well. I don't know how much tactical similarity there is between Man City and NYCFC but if they use him in a similar way I think he will flourish. It will be interesting to see what they do with all the midfield talent they're picking up.
Well for one, we should be able to see if it is actually midfield talent. Are they as good as Yangel Herrera or not? can they effectively replace what departed? it should be a decent measuring stick.
No. And I've had this opinion for a while. - They are both excellent passers, with tremendous vision. For both of them this is the foundation of their entire game. -Both are versatile central midfielders, capable of playing anywhere between the defense and the forward line - While De Bruyne is an elite dribbler, Parks is above average; both better than you would expect from someone their size - Physically, they are similar. Neither is overwhelmingly powerful or athletic despite size advantages. - Early career De Bruyne was a defensive liability, much as Parks has been (though he's improving) Obviously, De Bruyne is superior in every facet by a significant margin, hence Parks being the poor man's version. The differences IMO are in degree and not kind. The main differences in play style between the two: - De Bruyne is more comfortable playing wide (started out as a winger). Parks does at times make runs down the flanks but prefers to stay in the middle. - De Bruyne converts long shots, making him more of a goal threat - De Bruyne takes set pieces for his team Maybe I'm taking crazy pills and I'm the only one who sees it, but the similarities are there.
quick aside.... was keaton called in (to january camp) late so that they can have a quick look at him? is that keaton (or justin glad) at around 00:18 when the camera pans to jozy after he’s introduced?
Kevin De Bruyne is athletically on a different level than Parks. De Bruyne athletically under rated. He is much quicker, faster, and has a much higher work rate than Parks. https://www.goal.com/en/news/1862/p...erling-how-manchester-citys-new-stars-compare
Yea, I don't get the De Bruyne comparison... I think of De Bruyne working the wing with good pace and dribbling ability... and Parks seems relatively plodding/slow and must play in the middle
This thread never ceases to amaze me. He never broke into the first team in Portugal but his thread is up there with our top players in Europe. Is Mrs. Parks paying you guys?
He played in games for Benfica. The rule is that if a player plays a game for the main team in the league or a cup, then it moves from the Academy to the YA thread.
always have to put qualifiers so people don’t pretend to think the comparison means the poster thinks parks is say the taller reincarnation of de bruyne
The reason I follow him is that his story is very unique. I would be surprised if he got a bunch of caps with us, and absolutely shocked if he becomes one of the 5-6 key players for the USMNT at any point in his career. But it’s a cool story.
I'm also a fan of his because of his story... and at the same time, I think his story led him to being one of the more uniquely talented midfielders in the pool. US Soccer midfielders tend to have an archetype that Keaton eludes. I would be shocked if he gets a ton of US caps, but mostly because his lack of time with the youth teams and his unique skillset puts him outside-looking-in at USSF's attempt to create a unified playstyle across all the MNT.
And this is the argument against an extremely formal, rigid academy structure. You never end up with a Luis Suarez (or Deuce, on an American scale). Luis Suarez would never be the player he is if he grew up in la Masia.
Keaton got a nice big headline in the New York Post today: https://nypost.com/2019/01/29/keaton-parks-open-to-extended-nycfc-stay/ Here are some choice quotes: Dom Torrent also said, "I prefer to play with Homegrowns [rather] than sign players just to sign,", so Keaton should have lots of competition between Sands and Haak.
