Rogelio Funes Mori blatantly expressed his interest today in getting naturalized as a Mexican citizen in order to play for their NT. With Martino now in charge of el tri, it seems quite likely it could happen.
It would be no surprise. Mexico is a country with no tradition in football and will take any argentine or brazilian. Funes Mori is a laughing stock in Argentina, but is a big idol in Monterrey, and like so many before him, will play for the NT. Lets not forget, the likes of Guilles Franco, Lucas Lobos, Matias Vuoso, Chaco Gimenez, have all played for mexico... They even wanted Pavone at one point, which is just sad. I wouldn't be surprised to see Guido Rodriguez end up on the Mexican NT. I am surprised someone like Marchesin decided to fight it out as the Argentina NT goalkeeper, he would be the unquestioned starter for Mexico long ago. Just think about it, Mexico hosted the world cup twice and couldn't even make the semifinal. As disastrous as Argentina's world cup was, it was just as good as Mexico's, who was embarrassed 3-0 by Sweden and than trounced by Brazil. A truly pathetic footballing nation where the clubs move around like american franchises.
If I am not mistaken, I remember the U.S. was thinking about naturalizing both them or something in those lines. I believe they held green cards, since they had lived in the US for apparently eight years. But they never became naturalized citizens and went back home. I kinda wish they did, so we wouldn’t have to have Ramiro play as a CB.
A bit late... but it turns out this kid made his official debut with the Paraguayan NT earlier this year in a 4-2 loss to Mexico. He was also taken to Brazil for the 2019 Copa America, where he started in all four matches played by the Paraguayan NT throughout the competition. Seems he's doing quite well at Cerro Porteño too..
Arzamendia should play for Spain, after all both surnames are Spanish. Arzamendia is Basque surname, part of Spain.
I don’t understand why so many young Argentinian players today go to America. Ezequiel Barco is just one example of this. MLS is a mediocre league and has strict wage-caps so they don’t even make that much money. Instead of MLS, they could join a midtable Bundesliga team and make just as much money, live in a great country, and play at a significantly higher level. Also playing in Germany gives you a far better chance of being called up for the NT, see Alario.
European leagues are more demanding in training sessions. That's why European footballers end in MLS after they turn 33, 35 years, because they can't follow European tempo. Many footballers don't want to play actively, they don't care about the Champions League, World Cups, EURO's, Copa America. Fans are much more brainwashed with titles, trophies, derbies, national teams. For footballers, football is only an occupation. Many of them don't even watch football on tv. They want to close their existence questions. For normal life, you don't need more than 3,4 millions of dollars. Many players would rather spend their entire career on the bench in some better club than playing active football in some weaker club.
Andrés Cubas to represent Paraguay. He never really panned out. Had glimpses here and there but just fell short.
This guy would never make it to Argentina's squad (and I doubt he will ever play for Colombia either) but Germán Cano has been emphasizing a lot through the media that he is interested in playing for Los Cafeteros. Not sure he is good enough and he is up there in age but it is something I just wanted to throw out here into this thread since I read an article about it recently.
Never heard of this guy (nor has Martino even made mention of calling him up), but 30-year-old Argentine defender Emanuel Aguilera declared that he would consider playing for Mexico. Aguilera previously played for Defensa y Justicia (was part of the team that gained promotion), Godoy Cruz, and Independiente before moving to Mexico, where he has won three titles with Club America.
Gaston Gimenez, who was called-up by Scaloni in 2018 (friendlies vs. Mexico) and formed part of our Copa America 2019 preliminary squad, is expected to start tonight for the Paraguayan NT when we face off in the WCQs. The former Velez midfielder actually gave Paraguay the win vs. Venezuela in the last round of qualifiers with a late 85th min goal: Besides Gimenez, Berizzo's current squad is populated with several other Argentine players, including Romero Gamarra, Andres Cubas, Arzamendia, and Bobadilla.
Cubas has done well in France... considering how far Ascacibar has fell keeping Cubas would've been ideal.
Our corrupt "leaders" would rather fill the league with 3rd rate south americans then develop the youth system, we have almost no foreigner cap witch is ludicrous. I would put a hard stop at 3 and that's it. But our fan base is really dumb and accepts failure after failure and even rewards it with more $$$$ for the inept leadership. Oh well. On a different topic there is this kid Luca Martinez Dupuy who has been called to the Mexico under 20 side in the past. His he considered as a good prospect for argentina as well or just another case of us getting the hand me downs? LOL
My family on both sides are Canalla. So, I did a bit of digging on this kid. Looks like his father was playing in Mexico when he was born. And he moved back to Argentina when he was four. I’ll be honest, I don’t follow Central that closely, I just keep my eye on them time to time but this is kinda the first time I heard of him. If he’s this big time crack, we would’ve caught wind sometime ago.
Nicolas Capaldo (Boca), Pedro De la Vega (Lanus), and Tomas Badaloni (Godoy Cruz) being observed by Italy for a possible call-up to their U-23 NT.... all three players already possess Italian passports, although for now it is nothing more than a mere consideration https://www.tycsports.com/seleccion...eccion-de-italia-para-la-sub-23-id328623.html It is worth noting, however, that Italy will not be participating in the Olympics this year, so this would be more of an attempt to tie them down for the future senior side if anything.
The Germans might as well be a team for the UN. Poles, Turks, Arabs, Africans, South Americans and others. Pathetic bunch. The little shit can stay in Germany. Looks like he’s already accepted.
Centerback David Martinez called-up for the Parguayan NT for their upcoming WCQ matches vs. Uruguay and Brazil https://www.ole.com.ar/river-plate/david-martinez-seleccion-paraguay_0_Parq8cQRo.html Given the proximity of the matches to the Copa America, it is likely he will play for them in CA as well
He played for the Argentina youth team, but never got a call-up to the national team. He is 23, still young . . . he played in yesterday's legendary River Plate win over Independiente Santa Fe in Copa Libertadores
I think he's good, possibly great even, but I don't think he's quite Argentine National Team quality. Should be interesting to see his partnership with Rojas develop as they play together internationally too!
What a strange choice to represent a country that he has little connection to. But he won’t be missed. He didn’t even get any minutes in the last couple matches. He won’t get a serious look at either senior side anytime soon.
