On ESPN+ with Martin Tyler on commentary. Lots of big tackles flying in during the first 10 minutes. Sloppy game.
Derby played this very evenly for the first 67 minutes, then conceded twice in 2 minutes. No subs yet for Derby.
Holmes subbed on in the 94th minute for Jayden Bogle. Probably like-for-like at right back. Still 2-2.

Holmes looked good from what I saw in the extra time period. Shut down a couple of promising attacks, won a couple of footraces. I didn't see him do much in the attack besides one good run past Slattery, but someone insisted that I do actual work (how appalling), so I wasn't watching super closely. Derby go 5-for-5 on penalties, Nathan Redmond blasts high and wide, Derby go through to the 4th Round, where they'll travel to League One's Accrington Stanley. Holmes did not take a penalty.

If he keeps this up, Duane can add USMNT to his CV. Keep doing you thing, son. We are all rooting for you! His role for Derby County is rapidly expanding.
Well done Duane! Man of the match performances for an upper half Championship team along with athleticism at a position of need merits a call up in our program. I agree with others that he needs to keep it up, but very promising lately.
I thought he was done when he went to Scunthorpe. Great to see him doing well at a high level. He's only 24.
I love stories like these. Holmes deserves a call up. Not many attackers with the pace and playmaking ability like him (well not as proven, yet)
He went 87 minutes in the 2-1 win, picking up a yellow card in the process. Holmes has touch that puts Huddlestone in a little trouble in the start of the lead up to the second Derby goal (1:07). He then makes a run that pulls the right back out of position opening up the space the goal is scored from. At 2:46 he plays a ball out wide right starting a sequence that leads to a good chance.
With all the renewed interest around Duane, it's surprising he was forgotten this morning. Duane set up every decent chance Derby had. He could have had another assist, but the shot was hit right at the keeper. He’s really crafty with the ball. The 2nd half, he was picking the ball up centrally more often and driving at the defense. It made Derby far more dangerous. They were listless in the first.
For some reason my cable provider has been constantly reshowing the Leeds-Derby as schedule filler over the last 10 days and I've been able to have a good look at him. The bad news is that he was pretty ineffective going forward. So was everyone else for Derby - it finished 2-0, but 4-0 would have been a fair reflection of how thoroughly Derby were dominated - but there was little evidence that he has the skillset to unpick a defence for a team that's under the cosh. The good news is that what little Derby did going forward had Holmes at the heart of it. He was quick, energetic and always looking to make himself available. He was very alert, especially on defence and was rarely caught out of position on the counter, which is an achievement for a winger on a team that's chasing the game for close on 90'. On the few occasions when he was out of position, he got back smartly and closed down the Leeds player and forced him into a backpass or a square ball. Generally, he was very good defensively and it's noteworthy that Leeds' goals both came from attacks on the opposite flank. It's just one game and it's unfair to attribute too many limitations to his offensive game based on a game when his team was so out of contention but even if this was a reflection of his level, plenty of Championship teams would look to pick him up.

It should be noted Holmes played RB today. I watched the replay on ESPN+. Holmes was rock solid. He was impressive with recovery speed, tight in his marking, stayed conjoined with his defensive line, made several deep runs forward and whipped in two nice crosses. I was very surprised to see Holmes lined up as a RB but it was a seamless transition. Holmes is proving to be very versatile. I have to give Lampard credit for having the confidence sticking Holmes at RB.
