Yeah, why wouldn't I be? High floor, high ceiling, cheap. We probably would have won yesterday if we'd had him.
Laurent Koscielny led our final third entries yesterday with 5. Xhaka typically is in double figures. And he started this match. Just sayin.
Like most honest people, I have no idea if he'll be good or not. But if it's just a loan with an option to buy.....what the ********.....might as well. It's not like Emery is using Ozil or anything.
Not saying don’t loan him, or that loaning him is a big risk...but his ceiling is not high. Also, I didn’t call it out at the time, but according to @KozIsCul we’d have probably won yesterday if Suarez was in the squad. I mean...
He's young/prime age, athletic, technical, committed professional, who's succeeded wherever he's been except Barca. And let's face it, they're not going to be benching Busquets, Messi, Coutinho, Iniesta whoever in order to play Denis Suarez.
Well yeah, somebody's got to feed PEA and Lacazette. If they had gotten good service they very likely would have scored. That's what they've shown us all year. Right now, we're lacking the players who are good at that.
What he is excited by is it’s not Wenger. Emery won’t do anything wrong in his eyes and many others this season despite the signs that this looks more of the same.
Emery wasn't even my guy. I preferred Arteta at the time. Denis Suarez checks a lot of boxes for us. Right this second I'd rather have him over Banega or Yannick Carrasco.
This is missing the point though. There is no one arguing that Ozil and Ramsey were playing well last season despite the team's poor form and will definitely be our saviours this season. These beliefs are not mutually exclusive: 1. We've had many bad games with both Ozil and Ramsey. 2. The problem of Ozil and Ramsey under-performance was due to Wenger's mismanagement and poor coaching 3. Playing both Ozil and Ramsey gives our team a higher level and consistency of performances. 4. Emery should try to find a way to incorporate two of our best players (especially since they help bring out the best in our 100m striker duo) if we're going to have a chance of going to the UCL next season (either top 4 or winning the EL)
I believe the last performance is directly linked to internal conflict btwn players n Emery. I believe players are dissatisfied w the way club n manager have treated Rambo n ozil. both appear to he good teammates and we'll liked except by Emery. This eventually has an affect on team. Another outcast is eleny.
Emerys says Ozil was available but not selected It really could not be more obvious he is trying to force him out
He's 25, so he has already entered his prime and hasn't kicked on yet. He last played on a regular basis three years ago, so we really have no idea what his ceiling is. We have those players, Emery just isn't using them.
I understand that defense is our biggest problem, but watching us can also be very predictable and boring. I wish our attack could be more fun to watch. With how bad our defense is, I really wouldn't mind a front of Laca, Auba, Iwobi, and Ozil. Ramsey + 1 of the DMs (Torreira or Xhaka) in midfield. Go with Kola at LB as well. I'm going to get frustrated with our defense anyway, but at least I'd get some fun out of our games.
Imo we play the diamond I always wanted .......auba....laca ............ozil Ramsey......xhaka ...........torreira Kol..must..sok..bellerin ...........Leno Which relies on Ramsey and fbs overloading which is good imo Or we go 4231 again but bring in a lw And drop one of the strikers ..............auba Suarez..ozil....mikhi ...... xhaka.. torreira Can’t see him going 433 and I do t know about 343 with no really good ball playing cbs
Whats concerning is the defence remains so poor despite the acquisition of torreira and sokratis, and high defensive work rate (pressing) This might tend to indicate that the real issue is on the margins. i.e the likes of Spurs simply has a better back 4 and GK
It's almost as if nothing changed and the XG models were correct about Arsenal. 1084516442811351043 is not a valid tweet id
This is my big concern. Forget comparisons with Spurs or anyone for a second. Emery now has better players to work with than Wenger (having added Papa,Torreira, and Leno), and he still manages a worse defensive record than Wenger's WORST season. This is from a guy who has said he prioritize the defense (and so did his staff). Claims he has a plan on how to fix it, which is giving the defensive players confidence and making the team more compact. Do our defensive players look more confident and our team more compact? He's also sacrificing our attacking potential to fit in more defenders. We consistently play with 5 at the back + 2 DMs. sometimes back 4 + 3 DMs. However, even by comparison to Wenger's worst season, or by the very standards he has set out for himself, he is failing utterly. Now, because for some reason any criticism is taken as #emeryout, I am not calling for his head. This is just a statement of fact. The man has who has spent money on improving our defense, claims he prioritize the defense, claims he knows how to improve our defense, has consistently opted for defensive starting XIs, have so far in his tenure, produced a team with a worse defensive record than Wenger's (a manager people called 'naive' on the defensive side) worst season.
Also Emery has a bedded in Auba - an elite 9 Wenger did not have an elite 9 since RVP except when Auba first signed in Jan 2018
was our attack more fun to watch in September and October and November when we didn't lose any games? was our defense so poor in September and October and November when we didn't lose any games? Actually it wasn't that great, it was just enough not to lose, but I digress . . .
The answer to both of these questions is yes. The xG, chance creation stats for and against, and the inability to keep a clean sheet for most of the matches in that stretch show that.
Regarding the defense, it's not going to happen overnight. Emery's changes were evident from day 1. Things did start to improve as he toyed with lineups and brought Holding in and started playing Torreira. But lets not forget that for the past 2 months our defensive lineup has defaulted to whichever 4 players were healthy enough to be out there. That's far less than an ideal situation for implementing a new system.
