A number of Mexico sportscaster and fans have been trolling MM today with the Betis transfer news... Like the one below.

That's always been their Achilles heel, lack of proper defenders. For all their bravado, they wish they had the ones we got.

Well Lainez should do very well in La Liga as long as there aren’t defenders as good as those playing for Jong Ajax...

Lainez is a quality player on the way up, Matt is a limited player on the way down. That's reality but still doesn't take away from us producing regularly better defenders than Mexico. Although I'm not confident in this bunch. I feel for the first time ever our defense is going to be our weak spot, midfield and attack seem to have much better prospects.

One unsuccessful loan spell at a quality team and a 23 yr old CB who was one of the best in MLS as a teenager is “on the way down.”

On the way down is an apt descriptor, he used to be a starter, now he's a bench player who'd be lucky to end the loan. He's still in the #5 league in Europe, but "on the way down" describes the trend, it has nothing to do with current position.

A couple more losses and he may find himself getting another chance

It’s a step up, but he’s still a mountain to climb to make this a successful loan.

No. Hardly. Playing and not playing badly is a good thing. Not playing is neutral at the best, and bad at the worst bad, if he's in an "anyone but Miazga unless there's a catastrophe" situation. And even then, he might be bench fodder if the coach really doesn't like him.

It's a step up made by default; Kara Mbodji's loan ended and he went back to Anderlecht. It says that he's above Anthony Walongwa and Thomas Basila, but that's not saying a lot.

One injury (and no incoming transfers) and he gets playing time though, which is an improvement on recent months.

Nantes has worked themselves to as perfectly mediocre a position as possible:

11th in the table. 0 GD.

Can't imagine them getting close enough to the bottom to worry, but they're way too far from the top to aspire to much there either.

Their 2 loses above the drop. If they string together a couple of loses he will get a chance.

Yeah, and so are 6 other clubs... Nantes has lost a number of 1 goal games during their current slide. I think Matt may well get a few more chances, due to injury and/or suspensions, but I doubt there will be too many panic moves unless things go further off the rails. Probably the best argument for MM supplanting Carlos is MM has the potential to grab a goal here or there. I think between Pallois and Carlos Nantes has maybe one goal. But I don't think that's in the cards yet.

MM will get some chances - and if the Nantes slide continues, maybe he'll lock down a place, but I don't have a lot of faith in Dijon, Caen or Anger's ability to win many games...

But I'd be thrilled if they needed him to come in and salvage the season. That would be a good ending to this chapter.

They're happy surviving, last time they didn't they had to spend four seasons in the Ligue 2.

Toronto should take Miazga on loan. The sole reason for their debacle last year was that their cb squad was so decimated that they put Bradley at cb - with disastrous results, quite understandably.

Plus Toronto have those CCL games coming up in a hurry and winning it all this year will be a tall order.

Unless Toronto unloads one of Altidore, Giovinco, or Bradley, they definitely can't bring Miazga in on loan because of designated player limits.

Besides that, he's subject to the allocation order, which Toronto jumped to the top of to grab Laurent Ciman, so they're back at #24.

There's no way Chelsea would loan him back to MLS anyway, if they ever hope to get anything out of their investment.

A move back to MLS does not benifit Miazga or Chelesa at this point
