Congrats to the first pick of the @MLS #SuperDraft Frankie Amaya. Best of luck at @fccincinnati! pic.twitter.com/ouaFsYGtIg— Don Garber (@thesoccerdon) January 11, 2019
LAFC. Thorrington was talking to them from the start of the draft right up until FCC submitted their pick.
College soccer produced the MLS Rookie of the Year last year - Corey Baird. The draft didn't, but college still had a significant role in shaping him post-RSL Academy as he became a Homegrown signing.
RSL's first pick from 2005, Nik Besagno, is still only 30 years old. That's amazing to me. Here's to Cincy's guy having a bit more of a career than poor young Mr. Besagno.
And the Loons take a timeout. Guess they need more time to figure out which winger they want to draft.
Apparently not. EDIT: Of course, Adrian could always be planning on converting St. Clair to a winger. Maybe he's thinking Rene Higueta?
FCC really overvaluing that 1st pick. Sources: LAFC came very close to acquiring No. 1 pick. Offered Cincy $200k combined TAM/GAM and international spot. Cincy countered with $500k combined TAM/GAM. LAFC passed, Cincy drafted Amaya.— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) January 11, 2019
I was half hoping that Garber would troll the Crew fans by "accidently" saying the 16th pick was for Austin.
Hey Philly what do you think of your team thumbing their noses at the draft and trading all their picks away?
Don't bother me at all. We don't have any room on off-budget roster for anyone so we got money for a bunch of picks we won't use. Plus, out of all the picks we've had since Blake at #1 in 2014 only 1 is still on the roster. And he was a 4th rounder. Money now is perfectly fine when we have 5 teenagers who may be able to contribute this year.
Chicago trades the 32nd pick for....well, not GAM finally. They got the rights for a player from NYRB. Now NE traded the 33rd pick to DC for other picks next year (I think, this one was confusing) and then DC trades it to Houston for a player to be named. Edit: Sounds like the player going to DC is Chris Seitz.
GAM be we all get and GAM be all got. Andrew Hauptman and Nelson 'shady' Rodriguez love themselves some yummy, yummy GAM.
Chris Seitz was drafted fourth overall by RSL in the 2007 SuperDraft and expected to soon supplant Nick Rimando. Twelve years ago. And here's Rimando still going strong.
Funny thing is that MLS sent a rep over to the Crew fans to ask if the Don could come over for a picture. MLS rep was politely told "no"
He apparently didn't start playing keeper until he was 14. Maybe he was a winger before that? If so, look out, you may have the American Jorge Campos on your hands. Also, if there is anyone on here that doesn't know who Jorge Campos is, go Google or Wiki him and learn your MLS/CONCACAF history.
The 3rd and 4th rounds happened. 21 of the last 48 picks were PASS. https://www.mlssoccer.com/superdraft/2019/tracker
