Clubs with thriving academies or already solid squads, don't always find the value in the draft, but that is not at all the Chicago Fire, who got starts out of their second and third round players last year. The Fire have their own homegrown talent refusing to play for them, and their own draft picks retiring or looking elsewhere. They need the draft, so I am really surprised they'd trade down 10 spots.
Makes perfect sense to trade down 10 spots from the 5 in a draft where maybe 5-10 kids actually make an impact for $100K to help pay for more gravel in the parking lot...
It makes no sense to me, from a roster perspective, to trade out of any pick that can garner you a GA player. I know it's a crapshoot, and that all the talent is signing HGP contracts (or checking 2nd division leagues in Europe to avoid getting HGPed by shit clubs), but why not take John Nelson and have a zero roster impact player at a position of weakness? Nimrod's fascination with MLS funny money is bordering on an outright fetish.
Shambolic. Nothing surprises me anymore. The Fire are a mess and will always remain this way as long as Hauptman is the owner. The "clown car" rolls on.
Why is there a time limit on editing a post?In my original post I meant to say fire trade pick FOR $100,000 in allocation money and colorado's 15th pick.
And no second round pick at all. Traded to Red Bulls for something? Let's see how they "shake up the f*cking soccer world, boys" with GAM and the 53rd pick in the draft.
so apparently they saw what philly did and the "hold my beer meme" at the same time, sparking an idea that they thought would help their social media presence.
It appears as if mlssoccer.com has crashed. Edit: Now it's back. Only seven picks until the first Fire pick. We have No. 53 and 55. Too bad we did not have 53 and 54, then we could draft conjoined twins. Of course, if we did, then they would both take up international slots.
For the “rights” to a player to be named later, not even a guarantee of a player. $150,000 and a potential player will definitely fill out that championship caliber base. Fleeing academy players, check Being linked to players who do not sign , check Young players retiring rather than continue with the team, check Third wooden spoon, check
The ALDI version of Red Bull is awesome. 1/4th the price and tastes just the same (just as crappy, but still). $2.49 a 4-pack, as opposed to $2.50 a can.
