https://www.kansascity.com/sports/mls/sporting-kc/article222657820.html Let the speculation begin! My guess is Sweden
Going to Sweden would be a bad move, he could make more in MLS me thinks. He's unlikely to qualify for a work permit to play in England, so that is out of the question. That leaves Germany, Netherlands, or Belgium as the most competitive options.
True but He only scored 2 league goals this year. I'd be shocked if he goes to an upper level European league
He has just over a season's worth of MLS appearances in four seasons and he turns 26 next summer. It makes sense that he might test his luck abroad; I would guess that at any level higher than (roughly) MLS-equivalent -- such as, say, B2 -- he would need a trial.
Shelton has 79 MLS appearances, including 5 playoff games. Best of luck to Khiry in his club search. He's not going to set the world on fire wherever he goes, but he can be an important part of an attack for a decent team in a decent league. Hope he ends up somewhere interesting.
Mea culpa -- I was looking at his starts column. But we're still talking about a fairly low number (obviously, injury had a lot to do with this; so did his college career, of course) for a guy his age. He's never been a regular starter anywhere.
the 25 year old is being linked with a transfer to 2BL club Paderborn. https://www.nw.de/sport/sc_paderborn_07/22340593_Neuzugaenge-aus-den-USA-sind-im-Anflug.html
interesting, i wouldnt think a 25 year old with 8g in 75 MLS appearances would get 2BL interest. I was thinking more like norway or sweden.
Officially signs with Paderborn: Wertvolle Verstärkungen für den zweiten Saisonteil: @KhiryShelton und Mohammed Kamara sind beim heutigen Trainingsauftakt dabei | https://t.co/Qa5Aow272I | #SCP07 pic.twitter.com/ThVQ2veGyp— SC Paderborn 07 (@SCPaderborn07) January 5, 2019 Thread title updated and moved to YA.
Paderborn sit 7th in the 2. Bundesliga, 6 points shy of the playoff spot and 8 from automatic promotion. They're in the Round of 16 in the DFB-Pokal, and their next game is away to Duisburg, so they have a good chance to progress further. Shelton and Kamara give them 5 center forwards/second strikers on the first team squad. The three who are there: Ben Zolinski (26): 1,018 minutes, 4 G, 2 A Sven Michel (28): 977 minutes, 6 G, 3 A Babacar Gueye (24): 880 minutes, 6 G, 2 A Their default formation seems to be a 4-1-3-2, so there should be opportunities, at least off the bench, for the new signings. Probably more for Shelton, since Kamara is coming straight from UCLA. Additionally, Paderborn II plays in the Oberliga (5th tier). Upcoming games to watch as Shelton integrates into the team: 1/30: Jahn Regensburg - Paderborn 2/2: Paderborn - Greuther Furth 2/5: Duisburg - Paderborn (Cup) 2/9: Bochum - Paderborn 2/10: Gievenbeck - Paderborn II 2/17: Paderborn - Koln 2/17: Schalke II - Paderborn II 2/24: Magdeburg - Paderborn 2/24: Paderborn II - Haltern
Respectable 2BL club so props to Shelton. His pace and strength could be a nice tool for Paderbon and cause some havoc for opponents. Decent move. I hope he takes full advantage.
They also signed Mohammed Kamari from UCLA, who I believe is from Liberia. Not sure if he has any US citizenship.
uh, injured himself in his training on Tuesday. Explains his absence. .@KhiryShelton fällt mit einer Innenbandruptur aus | https://t.co/fpWbJyPqzZ … | #GetWellSoon #SCP07 pic.twitter.com/M9kgytgHA7— SC Paderborn 07 (@SCPaderborn07) January 10, 2019
A rupture sounds not so great for the start of his career there. I'm hoping this is another German word that sounds an awful lot worse than it actually is.
Looks like former SKC striker Khiry Shelton, after a week into his European career, will be missing some time with an apparent "internal ligament rupture in his right knee" after a collision in training. https://t.co/NuCaSbNX0p— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) January 10, 2019
I have no idea where I read this, but I'm pretty sure it's a 2.5-year contract. Transfermarkt has his contract end date listed as June 2021.
