Think you're off on your prediction about Green Bay and the top 3. Having said that, they have decided to dump a good amount of money in their program.....so he should have the resources.......but it's Green Bay. I do think Anagnost will get UIC competing in the top 3 though......I mean its Chicago.

Maybe, but obviously you haven't been to the UIC Campus or seen where they have to train. Time will tell!

Big risk going there with this new AD it seems.

If that is true about Boston College that is pretty insane. What coach would take a year to year contract at a place you are expected to win? Crazy if that is the case and cannot see whom would go for that insecurity in the super competitive ACC. As for why the last coach was let go all kinds of bad news in the situation there. Many people here in New England assumed Foley was going to get canned after having an affair with another BC coach a few years ago. But what finally did her in were the issues pertaining to drunk text messages and voicemails she sent her players and horrible treatment of her staff witnessed by the players. Was a pretty easy decision for the AD when that evidence was presented to him and questions were already being asked after the Sam Coffey transfer. That program can get back to elite status again if they have the right leader, but don't see how they will get that if they don't offer a multi year contract like any other normal Power 5 school would.

As for Syracuse I think they are finding out how hard it is to fund a suitable candidate. Tough job and hard to generate real interest. Wonder what direction they will go in now. That job has been open since late October and they don't seem to be any closer to a hire now then they were back then.

    Iona should announce soon.

Stony Brook will be bringing in candidates on campus soon. Neither assistant is staying so will be an open search.

GB has poured money into the complex and scholarships, fully funded now, upgrades on campus of $15 million in science, engineering and stem should help draw academic recruits as enrollment is up four years in a row it seems.

UIC with Agnost will definitely be a top 2 in that conference within 2 years, maybe within 1, quote me on that. He is a grinder as a coach, his teams high press on defense and lock teams in, its his style of play. Location, its a rich school, $40,000 a year and is on northwest side of chicago, better area, far away from terrible south side, so won't be a boon on his recruiting. On top of that, he'll have SEC level recruits because both him and his associate head coach bounced, and if you didn't look, MSU didn't announce or sign most of their class yet, maybe he knew he was leaving, so those kids are open and he can grab some. An SEC standout or caliber player in the Horizon would wreak havoc. If you haven't gathered my opinion of talent level there, its not a strong conference at all. Bottom 4 in country typically.

BC hired Wake assistant coach/associate head coach. That'll be a challenge for him after their star just transferred, and he is a keeper coach which most keeper coaches don't have a ton of success running an offensive minded game plan strategy. He'll have to be innovative. I'm interested in seeing how Lowe does the next few years if he can keep the success going they had, or if they plummet which I'd be willing to bet successful 13 plus win first season, then sophomore slump for coaches after drops him to the 10 win range. But hey, all speculation right? :)

Think you're right on Anagnost/UIC and the Horizon. Horizon League in 2018 was 27 out of 31 in conference RPI. Last three years have been in bottom 4 and in 2015 was 24 out of 31. Look at Cleveland State - brought in Sarah Krause from Pitt and went to conference final (though they had a good supporting cast of seniors as well)

I don't believe that simply because someone coached in SEC or ACC and was successful they will be successful in a lower level D1. There are a different set of challenges. However, I believe Anagnost will be - always has hard nosed teams.

I’m sure he will do better than the wake forest coach that took the Rhode Island job a couple years back!

Is the term “rising star” used these days when they need to find a way to hype up a hire? Not saying this is a bad hire and I think he will do well but it’s almost lik the admins have to find a way to justify why they hired someone who isn’t an existing head coach.

How about TD last top assistant to get an ACC job? Worked out really well for NC State. JL is inheriting a much better situation and I agree will do well.

Not just saying because successful at SEC will be successful at lower, saying he knows how to win, some coaches do, some don't. He'll win there. And his recruiting pool is much more talented than anything the Horizon league currently has. So 2019, I expect UIC top 3 to 4, but after that, top 2 the next few years after.

Outside of the UW-M name any NCAA team that is worthy in that league to compete with any top 50 teams? Hint, there aren't. Anyways, on to better topics, who are the candidates for NAU? And what the heck is syracuse doing? are they ever going to get a coach. Heard people keep turning it down

Syracuse has been turned down by several people. They were looking for the most qualified women possible I heard but they have been turned down by several and if they don’t sweeten the deal they will really be in bad shape

Don't think anyone was disagreeing with you footyballs.....its okay, your points which are obvious and easily supported have been made. However, your idea that the "recruiting pool" he had at Mississippi State will automatically translate to UIC is wrong. But as you said, on to better topics

From what I heard the arrogance of the person leading the search rubbed some people the wrong way that initially had interest. Throwing out expectations of conference titles and national championships was laughable. Hopefully they difficulty of getting anyone to accept will bring them down to earth. I think the only hope that they have is to hire a proven head coach with experience. It is too big of a project to think you can just hire someone who's an assistant at a big name school and that will do it.

I would say the same about Mississippi State, if you look at their last two hires. The first who was an assistant at a power 5 school with no HC experience and he struggled, then they hire a HC who has won and done it before and experienced much more success instantly. I would hope they do the same this time around if they want to keep the momentum going.

BC, Indiana, Oregon State and other power 5 jobs bringing in a successful assistant I think will be fine. Being the hardest place to have success in your conference is too big of a challenge for a first time HC in my opinion.

I don't think Syracuse is arrogant but naive about their appeal in pay to play sports. They had so much success in women's lax now the chickens are roosting there.

It took BC 30 days from when they announced a coaching retirement to a coaching hire. Syracuse is now on day 85 and counting.

I can’t belejve I am going to say this but I think Holmes actually has a point. Programs like the lacrosses, basketballs, men’s soccer, field hockey, and cross country compete for national titles at Syracuse, and even football did well this past season. Maybe that’s why their search people think women’s soccer can be in that category as well. But as they’re finding out it’s not that simple and not the case.

The other P5 schools hires of Indiana, Oregon St, and BC had one thing in common. They all hired a male. If Syracuse was under pressure to hire a female they can now say they did all they could but didn’t get the interest. There aren’t a lot of good female college coaches out there as the pool is so small. And now Syracuse can finally wisen up and find a competent male candidate at this point to make their program somewhat legit on the field and make their administration look fairly competent.

It only applies to limited supply women's sports. Their women's lax team fell off the cliff. There are better options now with lax proliferation on the scale of women's soccer.

    Southern-based conference....strike one.
    Hard to get to...strike two.
Private cost (UNC out of state is about 10k less tuition)....strike three.

They don't have a single card to play against the rest of the ACC. If the NCAA gave student-athletes more of the student half, they would have the parties. But that's out.

That may be the case, I really only know the the California schools. From talking to others I was kind of under the assumption it’s the California schools and then everyone else in the Pac12. I just feel that Syracuse in the ACC and Mississippi State in the SEC are a clear cut bottom as far as the hardest.
