I guess my one-year subscription came to an end. Not sure really, ESPN+ just stopped working for me. Then this not-so-helpful message: "To manage your subscription please visit the App store on the device on which you purchased your subscription" WTF? It has to be the same device that I purchased my subscription on? It was a year ago... who knows what device it was or if it even still exists...
Well I'm streaming Blackpool-Arsenal LIVE right now and there are TONS OF DROPPED FRAME glitches, like every 10-15 seconds it seems. Anyone else have problems like this with ESPN?
Plus Bundesliga fans don't get screwed now on FA Cup weekends since there is a huge overlap in the kick-off times of FA Cup (starting with 4th round) and Bundesliga matches. More importantly this season as there is an actual title race in Germany now and Dortmund still seems to play most of their matches at 15h30 CET.
So I just went on ESPN+ looking for the FA Cup 3R highlights show. Don't find anything. Are they not carrying that show? FOX did for years. That's always a fun watch, especially when the little stadiums go nuts with upsets. (I guess I'd watch it on BBC.com but they block content in our region, and I'm not into doing some VPN think to fake them out. I just want ESPN to provide it. It's already bad enough that it's gone from conventional TV so I can't record it. Now I have the hassle of trying to hunt it down on the Internet, and then if I find it, make sure to watch it before their friggin rights expire and they remove it) I continue to be baffled as to why the "powers that be" think that well-produced highlights shows (FAC, UCL, UEL, EPL, etc) are not worth the money they cost. And how expensive could they be honestly?? If ESPN isn't carrying any FA Cup highlights (or previews) that would be stupid IMHO. Another slight to part of their viewership.
Well, because people don't watch highlights shows in the US like they used to. And there's probably no expense for ESPN because the show can be provided by The FA. That said, I'm with you. They should plop the highlights program on ESPN+, like they do with Serie A. And though I VPN to watch the very good Football League highlights show on Quest, I'd like to see League highlights on + too. Send them an email! I will too. Add: highlights for every FA Cup match are available on ESPN's site and app http://www.espnfc.us/video/highlights/114/index (spoilers inside, obvs)
bein used to show the Football League highlights show every week. I'm kinda disappointed that ESPN+ doesn't carry that, but it's not necessarily a deal breaker as I can at least watch the match replays. They were showing the drawings for the FA Cup still, so that's been good. I also can't seem to find the A-League highlights show anymore. They had it on for the first few rounds, but now it's either gone or I can't seem to find it.
I'm a bit curious too, not that I ever watch it. Who stopped it from being shown... A-league production company or BeIN?
How can anyone say "people don't watch highlights shows" any more if they don't make the shows available? And again, can these shows really be so expensive to purchase that it's worth alienating a class of customers like me? (and it's not just me, as demonstrated by the replies and likes in these threads) Give me an email address and I just may. (But I've generally found that to be a useless strategy in the past with Fox, NBC, etc... at least I never got any response after constructive criticism) Thanks for that ESPNFC highlights tip. I don't know why that's not better integrated with the main ESPN site. When I searched for FA Cup Highlights, I came up dry... as if ESPNFC is a separate unknown location for their search tool. But still, those ESPNFC clips are spoiler-laden, and not even separated into a category like "FA Cup". There is so so much room for improvement. We can only hope that all the providers slowly wake up to that and make steady progress.
Longform highlight (and studio analysis) programs have been on the decline since smartphones with high speed cell data took off. https://awfulannouncing.com/2013/a-closer-look-at-espn-s-ratings.html Viewers under 30 aren't all that interested in sitting in front of a traditional cable tv set-up to watch 60 minutes of highlights. They'll catch them piecemeal online, if at all. https://www.mckinsey.com/industries...hts/we-are-wrong-about-millennial-sports-fans Networks are concentrating on giving audiences quick highlights on digital platforms, not "replatforming TV video for PCs and mobile devices" (plopping MOTD, PL Review and FA Cup highlights show on streaming sites). It's not a question of "rights" money, that stuff is normally included. It's a question of priorities (younger masses vs aging traditionalists). Honestly some of this stuff doesn't get thrown online because they probably just overlook it.
They're supposed to have the highlights show. "Additional content will be featured across ESPN+ and other ESPN platforms, including FA Cup highlights shows following match days, FA Cup preview shows and live coverage of the FA Cup draws." May be worth an email to them to find out what's going on. (They did show the draw yesterday.) https://espnmediazone.com/us/press-...s-fa-cup-in-u-s-through-new-rights-agreement/
Yes I watched the draw online... fairly entertaining, especially as the last 4 balls in the bowl were Arsenal, Spurs, United & Palace. Thank you for confirming that they may just be asleep at the wheel about not providing the rest of the "additional content". Or perhaps there's some sort of conscious bait-and-switch going on. Both would be highly plausible behavior IMHO. "Long-form highlight shows" typically run 30 mins, occasionally 60 mins. If they think it's easier, more user-friendly and more time-efficient for the viewer to have to hunt around every week to catch highlights "piecemeal online" amidst tons of spoilers which are impossible to avoid, then they're not thinking very hard about this, or they have other motivations, e.g. cost-savings, space-savings. The various highlights shows are generally of very good professional quality, with curating/editing which finds the "best bits" for you, whilst never spoiling the results ahead of time. To think that most people, even Millennials, would rather deal with all the alternative downsides, just defies logic. So I suspect there's something else going on. And when companies make changes that annoy customers, one of the most common reasons is profit-motive. Although incompetence could certainly be at play too. Either way, they're pissing off some customers, and I believe they're making a mistake. And it's probably that age-old proverb "pennywise, pound foolish" Edit: And I'm not saying here that they need to deliver that content over conventional TV, as much as that is much better/easier for some of us. This dialogue started from me expecting to find an online FA Cup highlights show on ESPN.com and finding nothing.
Sent them a message via Twitter @ESPNFANSUPPORT @espnfc @ESPNPR First, thanks for providing every match of the FA Cup 3rd round + the draw on ESPN+. Would it be possible to add the FA provided preview and highlights show on +? Thanks again.— Kevin | kotensixtysix.bsky.social (@koTenSixtySix) January 8, 2019
This desire to remain "spoiler-free" until you can find a highlights show is so outdated that it's beyond belief. It's 2019. That ship has long since sailed. Find another hill to die on, for the love of God!
Sorry. But the entertainment/excitement value of any given game is greatly diminished if you know the result ahead of time. Actually same goes for most "shows". Cup draws. Movies. Whatever. If that doesn't resonate with you, I don't know what to tell you. But you'll never ever be able to convince me otherwise. Some providers get this, and do a fairly decent job (conscious effort) to minimize spoilers. Many others do not... either due to laziness, negligence or indifference.
And you'll never be able to convince the vast majority of the world that highlight shows are relevant in the social media age. But you'll surely keep harping on it, ad nauseum.
This is a joke. The “new way” isnt always the best way. It should be available for people if they so choose. I love this millenial nonsense of scoffing at things like “watching full sporting events”, “replays of matches” and “supporting clubs not individual players”. Theres so many 30+ year olds in the world who embrace change but still like certain things their way. I dont see the need to give other people a hard time because of it. Im sure like most millenials you’ll just keep repeating your stance in a snarky way until you feel like youre right and that will make you feel better about yourself. Way to go kid!
So what makes you the expert on outdated? I often will avoid spoilers of matches to watch them later in the day or a few days later and would often not check Europa League scores and watch the highlights show later on that evening. I like to do that without having to worry about how cool or up to date that makes me
It has nothing to do with being cool, or me being an expert. A simple use of observational skills will reveal we live in a society that prioritizes instant information. If you want to keep your head in the sand about a certain match, go for it. But don't be like Northbank with his excessive complaining about being spoiled and how it takes the excitement out of viewing highlight shows, which may or may not air hours to days after the completion of a match.
