It’s an interview , Messi actually questioned Loew’s decision. It’s on other media as well

    https://t.co/hym0mIC9dR?amp=1

    Q. Ter Stegen sat on the bench at the World Cup, were you surprised?

Messi: "It was a surprise, Marc had a great season leading up to the World Cup, he did not concede a lot of goals, yet he did not play a key role in the German squad, for me, it was a shock"

    Agree

Honigstein actually wrote a little bit about this - along the lines that Loew has gone along with the Bild agenda because he is so weakened he can't easily oppose them

It's difficult to understand this form an outsiders pov. I also could never comprehend why Marca or AS can dictate who plays in Spain and who not. It's as it is. Bild ended the presidency of a German president single handedly. A NT coach is far easier to be kicked out.

The old Bild employee saying goes "who rides the elevator up with us also rides down with us again". Löw worked together with Bild for years leaking internal info to them. If there are no convincing results coming in, for instance Holland could lead our qualifier group, then the attack on Löw will start and he cannot afford to offer more attack surface by exchanging the captain and first goalie

Football has become a grand societal thing after 2006. Before that, football was more or less a thing for football fans. I remember an Euro qualifier in Nuremberg vs Latvia where the people booed and the stadium was half empty after 80 minutes. Basically there have been a lot of "fans" coming in since then who dont follow football between the big tournaments and NT games so that Löw winning the WC in 2014 pretty much is enough reason for supporting him still.

What i cant understand is German clubs nurturing English talent as a pathway to progression to top honours to the England side, my point is, wheres the German talent at that age group

those same English talent don't care about Germany or 1BL. They just want to develop and have every intention of going back and play in EPL. Guess clubs think they can sell them for a fortune. If Pulisic had a mediocre season last season and got benched this season due to Sancho. Then Pulisic was sold for $70M, how much will Sancho be worth? Looks like closer to triple digits.....

English and Spanish players aren't really keen on moving to Germany anyways. The real issue is the French. They are the ones mass producing players on a crazy scale, close to 100 players in EPL, La Liga, Serie A and 1BL and a ton of them are cheap to buy too. Then add all their domestic league players and I'm not sure anyone can keep up with them. Just today Barca bought some 99 French kid.

you shouldn't be surprised though, recently we had Bierhoff saying he's jealous of England talents and even Low seems to be rooting for England to do well. I mean wtf, do 2 dfb guys think they are doing wanting to develop players for England, rooting for them and admitting to be jealous. So embarrassing and wth are they even doing, the German NT is their job. Didn't Bierhoff get a promotion that involves the dev of all levels of the NT?

I mean both Low and Bierfhoff recently said it's good 1BL isn't just African players and Eastern Europeans and that there are more and more French/English players. Also that since these players can't breakthrough in England that they can do so in Germany.

so why should Germany NT/dfb care about their dev? they aren't German. They need to work on fixing the issues since it's a mess so that clubs rely less on foreign players.

we'll still see young Germans breakthrough in 1BL every season (also in 2BL and lower) but it looks to be lower # of players and maybe a bit more time too depending on each player individually. A lot of it really is about chances and patience. Estimates for it to be getting better seem to be something like 3-4 years from now according to interviews from dfb related guys when talking about changing/improving training and how Germany risk having countries catch up/overtake.

just in time for Qatar, lol. Also fits around the time dfb academy supposed to open.

DFB are very aware of the English/French situation. They know the problem

If u did look at my questionnaires to Kuntz before, he also stated this.

Also had a word with Damir Dugandzic, the director of DFB youth talent programme. He is aware of this

But what they both told me is that ... they have to improve the talent level within Germany rather.

It’s obvious that English n French are producing more n better football talents nowadays. And they all seem to show promises early.

Other than U21, Germany have failed to win any youth tournaments since 2014. Some blame on coaching, but England n France don’t have good coaches too (England always have poor supply of coaches), they talk about the raw talent in U17 or so

If we look at some of our age groups, 1997, 1998, 2001... seems like it’s a long way when we get back on track.

Clubs is a thing, DFB is a thing.... but the players aren’t as determined n focus as before. Training methods need an update (the Spanish revolutions showed setback now)

DFB Academy will help. But the players themselves have to be more disciplined n determined. Of course we have some players like Havertz, Arne Maier and Johannes Eggestein seem very eager n keen, but we need much higher quantity

N in a sense, our talents need to show promises earlier. Late bloomers will give them less competitiveness nowadays. Unlike before

I also welcome competition, without competition no one can improve. But first we need to be a lot better

dfb would suck in the business world. You should always be ahead of everyone all the time, you don't relax and continue as if nothing.

even more stupid was the Spanish obsession, I mean if you want to incorporate Spanish elements to the German game. That's ok but they took it to the extreme and even then Spain still produces more technical players.

you had Low who visited Spanish Academies a lot over the years, shows how much he took it to the extreme.

But before we blame clubs which import French n English kids

U gotta realise the difference of level between Germans n English/French...its not even funny, they are waaaay ahead

I remember Slaven Skeledzic said he was shocked at the standard of german talents when he came back to Germany n coach for Bayern u17 this summer

Then Nagelsmann said after the first couple of training sessions he noticed Nelson is as mature as experienced pros so he has to play Nelson

It’s a big contrast , and we can’t blame the clubs if the difference is that big

We used to have Ryan Kent n Hinds, not obstacle right? Because the my are good. But we need to be ready for competition because the next gen of talents (not only England n France but also Portugal n many other countries) are better than German talents now

Rather than blaming the clubs, I blame the players too. They don’t listen to advices, think they are always good enough, no passion/determination/concentration. Many times I saw talents who ignored advices n eventually being given up by the clubs

I remember around 5-6 years ago when I watched 1997, I realise there isn’t much talent in the group. Yes that doesn’t mean anything I was surprised because compared to many other age groups , the 1997 show lack of talent everywhere compared to other groups at the age of 15/16

I said my opinion here before n no one believed. Other than Torunarigha, Neuhaus n Florian Muller, I still don’t think anyone form that 1997 crop can be regular starters in 1BL. Maybe 2-3 players out of 1000 players in that age group

    2001, probably the same.

I m not sure if it’s the training method or it’s just a lack of talents in the country

The premier league is a absolute monster when it comes to attraction world wide, the club's in the premier league know that it's absolutely imperative to stay in the league at any cost, and the club's with their rich foreign owners have no obligation to play the natives to please anyone, such is the rich talent coming through that there breaking barriers down to force the top clubs to play these kids

looks like Germany might play Brazil or Argentina or some big country in Oct 2019 as Low wants a big team game before the euros.
