Bento was heavily critizised as Portugal NT manager because of his stubborn player selections. Yes, every manager has his faves and our recent managers like Stielike (Jang Hyun Soo, Lee Jung Hyub, Cho Young Chul), Shin Tae Yong (Jang Hyun Soo, Jung Woo Young, Kim Shin Wook) or Kim Hak Bum (Lee Seung Mo, Lee Jin Hyun, Hwang Ui Jo*) also had their darlings. But I had expected Bento to be more objective. However, I still think that Bento is miles above the mentioned ones in terms of quality, so we have to live with his selections... Could've been much much worse if we had a domestic manager for example. (*turned out well in the end)
we can live with his selections while remaining critical of them. full acceptance isnt a requirement to be his supporter honestly though some of his selections are past questionable and just outright wrong. why has kim seungkyu been groomed a starter. goalkeeping is the second most important element of the game after goal scoring. you dont win matches because your keeper connected two more long passes you win because he kept a goal out. cho hyunwoo is the better shot stopper and in form player. play the better shot stopper and in form player
Good teams can win even if the quality of play is bad. One thing I don't know: do Korean journalists ever directly ask managers about why they selected a particular player?
I definitely think he's few steps above the kids at his age from Asian Games squad. I'm just not convinced he'll be as big of a KNT member like Son and Ki. From a talent perspective, he has all-around talent and I absolutely love his swagger. He just doesn't have that 1 attribute you can look at and say "wow". Kind of like Ji Dong Won except LSW seems to be much more mentally there and LSW will score more goals in his career without a doubt.
I know he's had a very big up and down game yesterday and generally been awful for our NT. But HHC is still a great athlete, great workrate, and he's a better scorer than he's shown. I just think he's not in-form right now.
He doesn't need to play a big of a role as Ki or Son, why should he? The other starters certainly don't impress but they get a pass at being mediocre? LSW can for the time being stay as a supersub to gain valuable international experience, but I would still love to see him on the pitch with Sonny and HEJ. The chemistry is there.
With the amount of hype LSW had garnered over the years, it would be a bit underwhelming if he never becomes the star that people expected him to be. But i agree, be useful somehow for the KNT.
They played one tournament against U23s and suddenly the chemistry is there? LOL. Once again there's a reason LSW isn't played.
Portugal and Italy match? Definitely not. I have met kids (born in the early 90s and 2000s) that used biased Youtube highlights as an argument. It's not. Regarding the Spain match, the referee (Enemigo Al Ghandour) of that game has come forward to answer some questions in a Spanish documentary that was released like a week ago. Basically, he said that he hasn't received money, but the Spanish still hold a grudge against him even after 16 years. https://as.com/futbol/2019/01/04/seleccion/1546573200_998594.html "¿Por qué los españoles están tan enfadados conmigo?"#EnemigoAlGhandour. Well, it's still a major tourney, is it not? And he did fine, why can't he continue his success? He played limited minutes and did well so he should be rewarded for that in the future not punished. Yet, other senior players get a pass time and time again when they fail to produce? Please make sense....
IMO, the main reason why LSW clearly deserved a call up was his recent performances with HV. Yes, it's "just" Serie B, but anyway he did well.
I'll post up the clip if I can manage to find it, but he was speaking English during the pre-match press conference which JTBC previewed during the pre-match show.
There's a lot of managers/players that speak good English, it's just that many prefer/feel more comfortable speaking in their native tongue. IMO, I thought his English was more like Coelho's(Ok English), but it turns out he's very good at it, like AVB and Mourinho.
