The more I watch the right wing press go at her, the more it seems like the blood oath, the GOP took about HRC. With Clinton it was decades of attacks but with AOC in this hyped up social media world it will only take months. The GOP has turned this nobody into a somebody and she only beat out an incumbent Democrat for the seat so they didnt even have any skin in the game when she won.

It is a combination of things:

    1. She's a young empowered woman, so she scares a lot of conservatives who see her as harbinger of an undesirable future, where women speak as equals. The party of 18 total women in congress fears the fairer sex, go figure.

    2. She's, by American standards, a "radical". OMG!!! Healthcare, education for all and climate change legislation paid for by taxing the ultrarich and corporations, what has this world come to. But it is useful to paint her "extreme" views as those of the Democratic party, since it helps to scare the few republican voters that might buy into her charisma. Yes she is charismatic.

    3. The MSM, damn... including you Anderson Cooper, can't seem to deal with her in any other way than being misogynist/condescending. Yeah, sure, she's not going deep into her proposals and has made a few errors, but damn, to call her radical or tell her "that's not how we do things", those are things they'd never utter to a GOP male.

    4. She's inexperienced and all of a sudden she's in the spotlight, so she's committing a lot of unforced errors. Hopefully time will help her mature and manage interviews better. I saw the interview and I liked what I saw, I think she'll get better with time.

Plus, it's the old being jealous of the young. There's a one dynamic with older men being threatened by assertive women, and there's another dynamic with older women being usurped by their younger rivals. See McCaskill, Claire.

I actually don't think Claire was that jealous. I think Claire was bringing about a great point that was taken out of context. AOC is technically a nobody. She is no different that Talib, Porter or Omar. And two of the latter I mentioned actually beat out Republicans. AOC outflanked Crawley on his left and caught him napping. The Press and GOP have turned her into a somebody but she is a nobody from a safe district. Guys like Connor Lamb are gonna be the ones we have to look at if we are gonna win more seats in the midwest (I know Lamb is PA, but point still stands). If we are ever going to flip some of these Senate seats we have to look to the guys that won in purple and red states. Sherrod Brown should be writing a textbook right now.

Rep for the John Riggins reference!

Can you imagine saying that to a Supreme Court Justice? And then passing out under the table at a black-tie dinner? Well, maybe the newest member of the Supreme Court might do that, but...

I saw an interview with her on a related topic. McCaskill was upset at the idea that voters don't value experience, that a "fresh face" was better than than somebody who understood the job. Which to be sure is true, and an ongoing problem.

So yeah, I was projecting a bit. Have seen the other before, on more than one occasion.

I hope they don’t put Wayne Rooney and AOC at the same table.

It's all Skins fans like me got in the Snyder Error. Riggo was a piece of work.

Here's one about their 5 o'clock drinking club:

Especially Riggins, who never hid the fact he liked to drink.

“One time in the meeting room, John asks if I can pick him up in the morning,” Bostic said.

“John Boy’s going to be drinking tonight,” Riggins had told him. “John Boy doesn’t drink and drive.”

“He had a 1974 canary-yellow pickup truck,” Bostic said. “I showed up at his house one time and his pickup truck is right in the middle of his front yard and there’s two cowboy boots hanging out the front door. He urinated in the yard and gets in the car. He’s an animal. When he’s hungry, he eats. When he’s thirsty, he drinks.”

Jez, how many AOC threads do we need? Are you sure it is the GOP that obsessed with this woman and not the ultra left because there sure seems to be a lot of noise about her coming from the Democrat side of the aisle.

The fact that there are exactly the same number of Republican Wimming in congress today as there were in 1989 says all you need to know about them.

I mean I am sure lots of feminist would line up behind Sarah Palin for President and that crazy women from Minnesota for speaker of the house (I think she may not be in the house anymore).

Margaret Thacher and Teresa May are women Prime ministers, I wonder how much people on the left love them for breaking the glass ceiling in England.

Maggie was great. Bad politics, but a fantastic achiever. I admire the hell out of what she was able to accomplish.
