to the outside world, Maro seems like Germany's most lauded player, but her NT performance hasn't been all that good lately; her shoddy defense helped Denmark beat them at last Euros. Maro must of taken over a dozen shots at this year's SBC without scoring on any of them. Big player for Jones, not so much for Horst who she only played in his first two matches
in by far Horst's most important game, the revenge match vs Iceland, this was his lineup
Iceland vs. Germany - 1 September 2018 - Women Soccerway
the only difference from this chart is that it was Leupolz at DM, behind Dabritz at AM. Maro was out with a throat infection, but lets say she wasn't, you got to wonder where to put her in?
In the past, probably Dabritz would of been moved to the left side for Maro, but Dabritz looked sensational coming down the middle, whereas she's not that effective coming down the sides & it would mean the speedy Schweers would have to sit

I might be in he minority thinking that Maro is not good enough to start on the German NT & she does have that huge contract with Lyon, but that might be the problem; ever since joining the over stuffed Lyon & playing in a league that only has 3 full time pro teams, she might of become too complacent

No, I'm very fond of Maro but it's sad that great players like Magull and Dallmann will struggle to find match time because of her - because if fit Maro will play... and hopefully in a frickin attacking midfielder role lol as Jones actually used her as a defensive midfielder for some reasons...

And the way I've seen Doorsound play for Wolfsburg this season, she really hasn't justified her starting place at all which leaves concerns for the NT

I know you're both Americans, but I've been so frustrated again when thinking how the semi-final game ended after those blunders by the referee
It was the best game of the WC 2015 imo though

But that referee should be banned from ever refereeing a big game again, it's actually scandalous refereeing to the limit that it shouldn't be possible to referee that poorly

It's actually criminally awful refereeing unless the rules are different for women than men, because... you know... they're women  LOL

captured for prosperity, Germany's best 16 minutes of the decade! as they score 3 goals within that time span to start the 2nd half to beat Japan in the finals of the 2014 Algarve Cup. Sadly, Alushi & Kessler wouldn't be around for 2015, Maro only at maybe 50%(during the WC). Kessler scores almost immediately(after coming in for the 2nd half)

This reads like you've attempted to shift your initial argument towards another angle...:cautious:, but even if you want to dance around the topic, I still don't feel it's at the real benefit of anybody involved within the German wnt program, to hope for the continued failure of the men's senior team. It's never been at the root of the wnt's past larger visibility, or live fan support.

With this latest narrative you've tried to create, completely dismissing the more obvious fact of the wnt clearly producing a series of more impressive sides in the past; winning the games biggest prizes, using some of the sports best examples of female talent.

Meaning the latest wnt struggling to look like a competent team facing opponents like Hungary, Czech Republic, or Neid's teams needing to showcase increasingly unattractive defensive styles to simply remain a contender during tournaments, was never going to attract audiences to watch the women play live.

    I agree...

As somebody with very little belief in the current direction of the German wnt program, I see this squad list and just feel it foreboding the same pre Hrubesch issues all returning.

I mean I have no issue with the introduction of Kämper, Pawollek, Bühl, as these players are realistic options for roles the senior team has lacked depth... but bringing a 16yo FUTURE star like Oberdorf into the squad so damn early...?

These coaches continue to fail on a consistent basis to effectively work with the numerous talented AM options they already have, but they want to waste more time by selecting a baby Marozsan, to potentially compete with a adult Marozsan...

Nüsken being in this latest squad is also a massive error, considering the highly impressive form of Gasper playing RB within a Potsdam side, that recently saw her pass a series of defensive duels versus a 1v1 monster like Hansen.

LOL... I really hope they can prove me wrong, but I still see the analysis for player selection within this program highly confused.

Yes, it's a disgrace that Gasper's not in the squad. Oddly enough, Pawollek is in the defense...?

Gasper's form at Potsdam since transitioning to being a RB has been really impressive.

Physically robust, surprisingly strong during defensive 1v1 duels, and technically competent enough to use accurate forward thinking one and two touch football, I see it as a big error not having Gasper take part in this uniquely large training camp.

Plus even if she's not a real CB, Pawollek's probably been selected to sit in same scenario as Hendrich. This being a player who's a better DM/CM, but going to be pushed into a defensive role all because the national selectors can't seem to identify real CB options.

not saying advantage or disadvantage, but very interesting contrast. Ellis prefers a very experienced squad---age wise, as in this un officia roster atlsoccerway website shows, possible 10 players would be at the 30+
USA - United States - Results, fixtures, squad, statistics, photos, videos and news - Women Soccerway

yet Germany only has one player at age 30(& hopefully that player will get dumped, lol)

I'm pretty sure Babett Peter is dumped and the only player 30+ is now Gössling, hotjam

I agree, I think she should play for Maier actually if she continues the consistency of her performances

Hendrich is wasted... but I mean if you've watched Doorsoun play for Wolfsburg, it hasn't looked good at all you know
And now that Gössling's back from injury, Doorsoun sat the last game on the bench so Lena could play CB alongside Fischer

yeah Goessling will make the WC squad, but I don't think as a starter/ Horst only put her in at the 86th minute mark at the Iceland game.
last game for WOB, Goessling seemed pretty active, but then she gave up that goal a the ball was ripped from under her legs.
Finally there are some strong choices at CB in Demann, Elsig, Doorsoun & Hendrich, though they all need to work on chemistry together as last NT match Spain was able to get the ball behind the defense quite a few times, as Elsig/Doorsoun weren't able t hold a straight line to get the offside trap working

At least Peter, Blässe and Islacker won’t go to France

Horst is Horst, not MVT. Oh btw, Doorsoun’s been poor for Wolfsburg this season and I doubt she will play much now that Gössling’s back :whistling:

You need to remember that the USwnt won a WC and started the rejuvenation process of their squad a lot sooner post a major success than Germany's team.

Germany went to the Olympic's and won with Neid's WC team, and basically missed close to two years of a post WC development cycle, with the appointments of Jones, and then eventually Hrubesch.

I mean, players like Simon, Elsig, Demann, Schweers, Hendrich, Huth, Magull, are pretty talented experienced players, who all should have seen more significant roles within this squad recent past.

But instead of transitioning to these new players, and establishing a new style of play, this team has simply been languishing in a limbo of poor coaching, and unsettled leadership.

Maier's still the better player though... Gasper's league form just shows the most potential to compete with Maier for the national teams RB role.

Dynamic off the ball movement, positive one and two touch passing, with her defensive 1v1 ability versus Wolfsburg being really impressive too, Gasper's potential as a wnt level RB is just really good right now; Maier's a proven quantity.
Really..? I thought Goeßling's club level return saw her play as a CM, with your criticism of Doorsoun being the only real negativity I've seen regarding her individual form as Fischer's new CB partner.

Until very recently, I remember Wolfsburg's defense had only conceded one, or maybe two goals. With the main reason their record worse now, the result of Goeßling's individual errors lol.

The real issue behind Spain's ability to continuously pass balls through Germany's defense, was the fact Germany neglected to use a real DM... AGAIN!

I mean, even if I don't really regard Leupolz a strong DM presence (she appears to be still learning the role), her presence in the heart of Germany mid-field often provides the team a positive tactical balance that can't be ignored.

And Germany's tactics versus Spain were simply horrible. This being another match where the coaches reverted back to using the same nonsense that saw them lose a two goal lead versus Italy just a few day prior.

Oh, knowing the second half versus Italy with Lattwein as a #10, and Leupolz as a DM, showed the coaches what a difference a little tactical intelligence can really do.

But they still chose to leave Doorsoun and Elsig completely exposed versus an opponent who's entire style of football revolves around exploiting spaces in front of the opposition back 4.

Not sure if if was on the urging of MVT, but Horst definitely experimented those last few games, away from the well defined, lone DM from his middle matches(vs Iceland & Canada).

looks like the 1st MVT match will only be on April vs Sweden(as Germany has not registered of any of the mini tourney's aka Algarve Cup, SBC. Guess MVT wants to keep under wraps what she got planned for her squad. Hopefully she doesn't go the complicated route like Stefi Jpnes did, who seemed to try her own version of tikki takka, but failed misereably in doing so

Gössling played CB alongside Fischer in the last the game before the Christmas break

Well now Gasper's nominated since Lattwein and Petermann will not take part in the trainingcamp :whistling:

The spine of the team has been awful or simply non existent for years, and was still a major issue for Hrubesch.

Best highlighted during the 0-0 vs Spain, where he once again removed the teams DM and CAM for reasons that simply made no sense, having literally just seen how much more effective his team can be using a DM, and CAM, during the second half versus Italy.
lol, you seem to have a lot of faith in a coaching system that hasn't looked tactically competent in a very long time.

The 0-0 vs Essen was their last game prior to the winter break... but prior to this match Doorsoun was still the 1st choice CB partner for Fischer, and it's not like Wolfsburg were playing worse because of her, with nobody having reason to highlight Doorsoun for potential defensive concerns...
They've nominated Gasper, and Freigang...:speechless: So I don't know who's doing the player analysis for the wnt program, but I'm still asking why are they selecting another player with no obvious or defined role to play on the current national team...?

As the leagues in form domestic RB, within a wnt player pool lacking competition for it's senior teams RB role, Gasper should have been selected for this camp anyway.

But what is this camp meant to be, when ridiculous selections like Nüsken are being made for a WC year squad that needs major pre tournament condensing, not further pre tournament expansion.

I do remember Gossling at CB from way back when WOB won the CL in 2003. But I think being on the injury list so many times has slowed her down since. She was the starting left CB at last year's CL, but seeing van de Sanden blowing past everyone on that side(during o.t.) didn't make an favorable impression.

the last game vs Frankfurt game was rather odd that Gossling might of started. but Gunnerdottir would run back into the center & split Fisher & Lena to the sides(& that against an undermanned opponent). So not sure what the coach mean't b it other than he might of not thought Lena could handle defensive duties

so, like I've mentioned, use Lena as a sub with her experience, perhaps though at DM(especially if MVT reverts back to 2 DM's)

why isn't Lattwein in the training camp anymore?

Wolfsburg conceded many dangerous situations because of Doorsoun’s mistakes - regardless a better player than Peter though - may I say how effing amazing it is that she’s not in the squad anymore? :D imagine her reaction lol
