According to Kicker.de, he is #53 of 78 ranked midfielders with an average rating of 3.67.

i would sign up for wes having anywhere near the amount of influence near the amount of influence in a game as Jermaine had against Portugal and the rest of that world cup

that includes wingers as well (or are they only listed as forwards/strikers)?

That's one of the key differences between Wes and Jermaine: the lad is very, very competitive but I don't see souped-up aggression there. He's got his id under control.

I thought he was good but I also would not get carried away. He committed a disgusting, cowardly foul against Reus that resulted in a 6 game BL suspension, almost tore Neymar's leg off with a crazy foul. Let's not make him a world class midfielder because he surely wasn't.

Not really. He played in the EPL and had approximately ZERO impact. He was a good player, don't get me wrong. But he is NOT the standard by which I prefer to rate USA players.

Suit yourself, JJ is one of the best to put on the shirt, and that's normally what people use to set "standards". But if he's too rough for you, that's OK.

Now you are just talking nutty. Jones went on loan to Blackburn, started and played 16 matches, won 4 MOTMs and was widely credited with helping to keep them up. At the end of the season >98% of fans voted to buy him even at the inflated price (>double loan clause) Schalke was asking.

Are you confusing JJ with Bradley who went on loan to AV at the same time and could not buy a game, spending almost his entire loan on the bench?

We got JJ at the tail end of his prime but he put in some great performances, including at the World Cup and Copa America.

Jones was good enough to cause more than a few German fans to wonder why he was never picked for their NT.

No, he wasn't a big name in Europe by any measure. But he'd be easily among the Top 5 most hyped Yank players in Europe (by European fans) ever.

And frankly, if you can't see JJ's quality without the stamp of fan approval (not directed at you Houston, obviously) you are not a great judge of soccer talent.

Dude you're talking out of your ass. My original post stands, your narrative of Jones level was laughably selective at best.

Why don’t we end it since I think we’ve veered far off topic here.

Probably only Schalke fans. He had some very strong CL performances for that team.

2008-09 season, and mainly Schalke fans. But it's hard to know, the
Nationalmannschaft fans don't always state what club they support.

His duel with Löw made the rounds in the German forums, those two never liked each other. So when Jogi got named, that's when things came to a head and both Jones and his supporters became vocal.

Sadly, finding old message board messages is hard, not all of them archive the old ones, and forums are by their nature iffy: they disappear, and many lose old posts in hardware accidents (it happened here too).

An example of the climate at the time:

PS: Sorry FalseNine, done here with this.

Thanks for posting what you did. I appreciate it.

It's a great time to be alive having several 19/20 year old Americans at quality Bundesliga clubs.

because I think Jones was a good but not great player? You need a visit to your therapist ASAP.
