In the NC State game, the NC State keeper made several brilliant saves, while BB basically threw the ball into her own net the only time it came near her. That's why it ended 1-1 instead of 5-0.

BB had a few games where she straight up dropped balls (weakly hit ones at that), scary considering goalkeepers use their hands

I thought BB did better at all aspects as the year went along.

I expect her, Pavlisko and Howell to make good leaps forward skill wise next year.
The only reason I don't list Lynch here is her injury may take all the way to next fall to rehab, robbing her of much needed playing and practicing.
She was already getting better as the year went on.
Patton and Carle made such a leap forward this year IMO, as did Dorosy!

    UCLA without Mace or Fleming.

We played them without Kuikka, undeniably our best defender by those who watch ed FSU religiously. She was a mistake eraser for us, and was an asset going into the offensive end.

I certainly would have rather played them than USC at year's end.
We were able to win natty without 2 key starters. Kuikka was a big part of that, because our defense allowed a total of 3 SOGs between UNC and Stanford, the best offense and another top level offense.
My point being, UCLA should have played better even without Mace/Fleming.

    Very true.

Stanford also played them without Fleming or Mace... and won a tightly contested match by one goal.

Stanford also played that game without Tierna and Smith. My point is it is very rare to have a team at full strength midway into a season

    So true!
Teams without quality depth will have a hard time winning a natty! Either that, or they will have to be unusually healthy!
I may be forgetting, but I think our 14 team was unusually healthy!

i think the value of a win vs UCLA sans those 2 is far less. Thats all. Just like I think FSU put it all together at the right time. it amazes me that people dispute either point. I guess it just shows how strong fandom is.

Yeah, it's like denying that UVA's coach's association with the NT and having YNT event(s) at UVA is not advantageous to UVA recruiting.

please explain to me the advantage . I really dont get it at all. Im being dead serious. Who are all there UVA players who have benefitted from it? Do you think Jill Ellis being ex UCLA is a bigger advantage? Or BJ Snow? Or Dambach having coached youth teams?

If its an advantage, and i dont think it is, he sure as heck is not maximizing it. Who are all these top level recruits he has got since that camp?

And lastly, what association? when was the last time you saw him working with the NT? One event pre teh 2016 U17 WC. are you going to tell us the others ? Swanson was not coaching it either

dont let actual facts get in the way of you innuendo.

You state your opinion as gospel and demand some objective proof of anyone who disagrees, when in reality most of what's written here is opinion.

I'm of the opinion that UVA has benefited from Swanson's past NT association.
Frankly, I don't have a problem with that, while you seem defensive and or in denial about that.

Check out UVA's current and recent recruiting rankings year to year. They are typically better than FSU's by TDS. Even soccerhunter doesn't have FSU on his radar of even Tier 3 this year.

That's OK, because I honestly trust Mark's evaluations much better than anyone else's I know.

We played the most important part of the year without a key starting midfielder and starting GKer.
Meanwhile, UCLA had both Mace and Fleming back for the postseason, but did not advance to CC.

The only team I never hear you question is UVA, but you don't claim to be a UVA fan.
I'm guessing 90% of the posters here believe you are a UVA fan. Why not just admit it?

I like the back and forth you bring, but at times it can become a little tedious.

Let's see if Steve Swanson's official bio on the UVa official website, which is targeted to high-level recruits, their parents, and their club coaches, makes any mention of his association with our National Teams. Oh look, right here near the top:

The last three years will be ones Swanson will never forget because of the successes experienced on the pitch as both a collegiate coach and with the US Women’s National Team.

Swanson appeared on the international stage in the summer of 2016 as an assistant coach with the USWNT in the Olympic Games in Brazil.

In the summer of 2015, Swanson served as an assistant coach for the United States as the Americans triumphed over Japan to win its third World Cup while he was watching two of his former UVA standout players, Morgan Brian (Class of 2015) and Becky Sauerbrunn (Class of 2007), play the entire 90 minutes of the final.

Message - our coach is elite. Come play for him and have a chance to be elite on the world stage, like Morgan and Becky.

You don't think it's an advantage...well, he and his Athletic Department certainly do. Here's the thing: this association helps get kids who may themselves not have attended any of the YNT camps he worked. It's the association. It confers instant credibility, with a dose of star power. You don't think this information ever comes up in conversations with recruits? He's competing with the best teams in the country for players; he'd be professionally negligent if he didn't play up his national team involvement.

Which players has he got as a result? Impossible to say without asking them, but I'd wager every single player who has committed to Virginia in the last 5 years a) knows he has had USWNT involvement, and b) sees it as a positive.

Also - and maybe this is the source of your issue - nobody is saying this is an *unfair* advantage; he's a great coach, he deserves to be involved, and I wish he was *more* involved with the USWNT. Maybe they'd play more like Virginia, instead of UNC. But it definitely *is* an advantage, one he uses, just as every other college coach also involved with the USWNT uses it.

Still UCLA which isn't an easy out ever. Not to mention that is the biggest margin of victory against them since 2015.

Smith played in that game and scored the winning goal so your statement simply isn't true! Please try to hide your bias when you post.

Did you watch the match between North Carolina and UCLA? Florida State had to come back against USC and beat them in penalty kicks and UCLA was the better team against North Carolina in every period other than the second overtime. Honestly if they had started Mace at forward instead of outside back the game would have likely been over in regulation.

This is the FSU thread. I was referring to the college cup game. Smith did not play and certainly did not score a winning goal. Re my “bias” in my posts I think most people here know who I am and where my kid plays. I rarely if ever post about my kid or her team
Welcome back. I hope you can keep it civil

    What is your point?
That UCLA was actually the best team?
You have the right to your opinion!
Defense won FSU the title. Offense just provided the final margin.
Between Stanford and UNC we allowed 3 shots on goal. 3!!!!!
We played without our starting GKer and lost a CM early in the NCAA tourney!
UCLA was good on defense (IMO), but not elite.
Quite frankly I would have preferred playing either Georgetown or UCLA over UNC because of style.
We tend to have an easier time with possession teams than with aggressive in your face direct teams.
UNC wears you down over the course of a game. They play tons of players, all of whom are good, a few of which are elite. They are physical and are in your face constantly. I just went back and looked at statistics and UNC outshot you guys 7 to 1 in the 2 overtimes.
UCLA is excellent and worthy of CC appearances annually.
Look forward to seeing you guys out there in the fall.

That is up to you and the BS that you post. I don't like you because you talk out of both sides of your face and you know it deep down inside. Avoid me and we won't have a problem. Confront me and be prepared for the consequences, and it is as simple as that. Post once about my kid and/or her teammates and you will get my full wrath as you don't know anything about them other than how to watch you kid's team lose to them.... Are you the thread police now?

    Have a nice day.

A lot of what I state is my opinion, but I'm unclear as to exactly what was 'not correct' in my previous statement?

I'm not trying to start a pissing contest, but just trying to understand where I was wrong. That would not be earth shattering.

Based on your statement to Glove above, would you mind sharing your team allegiance, so that I don't step on your toes if possible? I'm guessing UCLA, with an outside chance of Stanford.

If you are unable to handle the OPINIONS of posters on here then maybe you should stay off. You can expect your dd to be talked about if she is a player that draws attention, good or bad. Same goes for her team. That is the point of this forum.... to be able to discuss teams/ players in a non -threatening way.

Lots of parents on these boards. I'm not one of them.
I imagine it is hard to hear things about your kid from
fans, especially if they are not flattering.
People have opinions. Sometimes they are well thought out and measured.
    Sometimes they are just mean.

I know I would have a hard time as a parent, but threatening people is never OK!
