H/T to @Alex Blanton Possible loan in January. https://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-131118-sean-goss-qpr-fc-paul-smyth-moves Hämäläinen, also 21, was born and raised in the United States and a loan move there has long been considered as a possible option for him. English clubs have subsequently been made aware of his availability as well. The Finland Under-21 international’s last league outing for the R’s came more than two years ago and it is more than three years since he was out on loan, at Dagenham & Redbridge. The contracts of Kakay, Hämäläinen and Phillips are due to expire at the end of the season.

His posting history seems to include quite a bit of US national team connected stuff. Is he accepting a Finland call up for a friendly or competitive game? I think I will mentioned on Twitter that the US still needs a left back.
Niko Hamalainen liked your reply 5h Congrats. But keep your options open, the US needs a left back!😄— Lloyd Heilbrunn (@LloydHeilbrunn) December 28, 2018

https://www.angelsonparade.com/2019...ainen-joins-lafc-camp-qpr-queens-park-rangers Not a bad approach... take young dual national Yanks and play them. They may have value in both US & Europe if they do well: The strategy for LAFC has been clear: The team is looking for promising dual nationals, players who are projects for the future but bring European experience while also holding U.S. citizenship or residency. Hamalainen fits that clearly. A handful of players have come to MLS from England on loans, so that seems quite possible, but no official word yet from LAFC. He may be in the trial phase at this point, so we’ll see what happens. But with the season coming in just over two weeks, the youngster may get a coveted roster spot with the black-and-gold. Stay tuned.

If he is lost to Finland I really don't think it's a big deal because his potential probably isn't more than low end MLS or League One and I don't think his current ability is above League Two in England, but hopefully he proves me wrong.
Snip: LAFC announced today that defender Niko Hämäläinen has returned to English side Queen Park Rangers following the conclusion of his six-month loan with LAFC. ... Hämäläinen appeared in three games for the Black & Gold, with his only start coming in the 1-0 loss against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on April 17. https://www.lafc.com/post/2019/07/08/defender-niko-hamalainen-returns-queens-park-rangers
