Great article Brian. Love his enthusiasm for his game and for the US. Hope he truly breaks through for Heidenheim.

only lasted 46 minutes before being subbed out. In fact all 3 subs were used in the 46th minute. according to TM, his contract expires Summer 2019.
after that game that he started and didn't impress at all and was subbed out in the 46 minute. He has failed to make the last 2 consecutive matchday squads. Also has only made 1 of the last 4 matchday squads as well. Lankford seems to be the type of player that needed a loan in the Summer but with an expiring contract he has to extend 1st. Maybe they extend 1 year and loan him out in Winter? Doesn't really seem ready for 2BL.

according to TM, reason from Sept 29-Nov 4 why he made no squads it's because he's injured with Muscular problems.

not surprising and saw it coming but looks like he could be gone in Winter and has a Summer 2019 contract to boot. would be surprising if he goes to another 2BL club, as he hasn't done anything in his pro career. Seems like 3rd Liga and lower is more likely.
he's a domestic player in Germany why would he leave at 20? he could still make his way up but unless he joins a 3rd Liga club in contention for promotion he's likely to spend a few seasons in 3rd Liga. Assuming he goes to 3rd Liga. his only pro goal was vs a RL/4th division club too.
IDK - but I think MLS teams should target more of these dual nats who aren't playing in first divisions of top 4 leagues - if they can get players who count as domestic it is a huge benefit for roster-building in MLS - and there is precedent for a player like this doing well - Fafa Picault just was one of the hghest scoring americans in MLS in 2018 and was on the outs in 2BL before coming to MLS. Plus, with MLS becoming more open to becoming a selling league lately and forseeably- it might be a good option for a player like this to play a season or 2 in MLS and jump over to a first division Euro league possibly.
current reports are that he's willing to change. Lankford apparently without any prospects The situation is somewhat different with Kevin Lankford, who also expressed emigration thoughts but obviously can not name a club interested in a commitment or loan at the moment. Lankford's current contract with the FCH runs until the end of the season. https://www.swp.de/sport/fussball-n...ansfer-zum-fch-nochmals-vertagt-28931569.html can't go on loan unless he renews his expiring 2019 contract.
since there is no interest for him from anyone, he's part of the 30 man Winter Camp for Heidenheim. wonder if he can turn it around or whether the young players they included will make him irrelevant to the club? but that he doesn't have interest doesn't bode well for him.
He's resurfaced with Heidenheim, subbing on against Kenny Saief and Anderlecht. 76. Minute: Zweiter Wechsel: Kevin #Lankford kommt für Kevin #Sessa. #FCHolaAlgorfa #NurDerFCH #FCH1846 @PinatarArena— 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 (@FCH1846) January 13, 2019
that's not promising at all though. In Winter Camp friendlies, a lot of coaches play 2 different XIs for each half. That Lankford was subbed in at the 76th min isn't great and even the 3 U19 players played a ton more than his 14 min.

As you know, the winter transfer period expires on January 31st. Until then, the possible changes of Kolja Pusch, Oliver Steurer and Kevin Lankford must be completed. This trio had expressed a desire to leave the FCH in order to gain more match practice elsewhere. "According to current status, all three will stay and try to join the team here," said Sanwald. Only at Pusch there are currently still contacts with a club, an agreement seems currently but unlikely. https://www.swp.de/sport/fussball-n...ein-angebot-nicht-mehr-erhoehen-29102857.html really does sound like there is no interest in Lankford. It's also easier for player to find a club in Summer where numerous players exit/let go every season.
moving to 2BL St Pauli? Not a lending business, but a real transfer, however, it is self-grown Kevin Lankford. The midfielder will play for second division competitor FC St. Pauli. The contract of the 20-year-old with the FCH would have expired on June 30 this year. About the transfer modalities agreed both clubs silence. "For Kevin, FC St. Pauli has given him an opportunity he desperately wants to use. He clearly signaled this to us after informing us a few weeks ago about leaving the FCH this winter, "says Sanwald. https://www.swp.de/sport/fussball-national/2-liga/mittelfeld-duo-verlaesst-fch-29303353.html the good news for him is St Pauli have a II team in RL so he could get some much needed game time.
Moin! Wir starten den Tag mit einer klasse Nachricht: Der FC St. Pauli verpflichtet Kevin #Lankford vom @FCH1846. #fcsp pic.twitter.com/gCRV17UZN2— FC St. Pauli (@fcstpauli) January 29, 2019 signs until 2022. We had planned a transfer from Kevin for next summer, but with the departure of Cenk Sahin, we preferred the move. Kevin fits into our requirements profile, because we want to attract young talents for FC St. Pauli and shape and develop them here, "explained sporting director Uwe Stöver. "We are looking forward to Kevin. He is a fast attacking player who played in both offensive positions in Heidenheim. With him, we have another alternative for our attacking game, "head coach Markus Kauczinski is happy about the new addition to the league rivals. Kevin Lankford is also happy about the early change: "I really wanted to come to FC St. Pauli and I am therefore all the more pleased that the transfer has already worked in the winter. I'm looking forward to the club, the city and the new challenge at FC St. Pauli. "
like most German-Americans he's exactly dual in terms of parentage as his dad is American while his mom is German. meanwhile Lankford is a Rams fan for the super bowl, although seems like he won't watch if he's in the matchday squad on Monday
