I remember seeing her play on several youth national teams.
She should be a great replacement for Emily Ogle in the midfield.

Some great stuff in that article - #1 recruiting class. We've got a lot to look forward to over the next few years. Keep them coming DMT. I've been slowing down lately.

    Damn!
What a recruiting class! Throw in Coffey and I’m thinking C.C.
Heck y’all beat us (FSU)in the first half this year.
    Y’all didn’t reload. Y’all Upgraded.
    Kudos!

this class is caveat emptor - most coming off injuries and dare I say it some rather overrated. when you lose your best player, Ogle, hard to say they upgraded

Is that cold water I feel raining down?

They lost some proven talent to be sure.
They also just added Sam Coffey.
007 you know these recruits well enough to say they are over rated?

    Time will tell.

Yes i believe i do. have seen all of them play extensively in person ( as in > 10 x) except Weisner. Ogle >> Coffey imo. I would not make the comment unless i felt i had an opinion based on my own data. The question you should also be asking, especially given the TDS bashing is, have the ones who say the class is so good seen enough to hold that PoV as well ? Be balanced.

Except you've totally discounted the program's coaching and development of players. There are never any guarantees with young players, but I'd rather be on the receiving end of this class than the dreaming and wishing end.

i disagree. Ive given my opinion on the incoming class. Im entitled to it as much as those who praise it. Its ironic that people bash Top Drawer soccer, but other that their rankings and comments, what is the basis for ranking the class ?

I have seen a couple play live and I agree that they don't have the top recruiting class and Ogle is definitely better than Coffey.

Coffey's Stats in ACC play and the tournament (BC's nonconference schedule was laughable)

    7 goals and 7 assists

    Virginia Tech 3 goals
    NC State 1 goal
    Miami 1 goal
    Pitt 2 goals 2 assists
    Wake Forest 1 assist
    Clemson 1 assist

She did nothing against good teams. She did tear up the scrubs in the ACC. Stats only tell part of the story you have to look past them sometimes. I am really shocked that she got ACC midfielder of the year as there were at least 5 midfielders that were significantly better than her IMO.

I've mentioned before, can't remember if it was to you or someone else, that I don't have a TDS subscription. I use SoccerHunter's rankings: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/class-of-2019-recruiting.2037008/
I trust his methodology and opinion. The fact that TDS happens to agree with that is an added bonus. Saying you watch a lot of soccer or watched the players a lot means very little, really. No one here knows if your opinion is worth anything. Unless, of course, you're willing to put in the work and do your own rankings, why come along and just criticize the work of others?
And yes, you are entitled to an opinion, and I disagree with it.

Im not criticizing anyones work. not sure where you get that from. I actually supported TDS's work. I have no issue with differing opinions. I think rankings are beyond stupid. I could not disagree with you more about the value of watching ones self. Not because the opinion means anymore, but because at least it has a real sample behind it. As I keep saying, I would love to know the basis on which others assess these classes.

PSU will be loaded for the 2019 season. Top 3 scorers return, 2 First Team All Americans in Kaliegh Riehl and Sam Coffey. Their GK back for her 3rd. year as a starter. Get two players back who had to take medical redshirts and then throw in the #1 class for 2019 in the nation! That class is a dynamite class ask the US Soccer coaches who have coached 6 or 7 of them at the various age levels. I'll take their word for it over some anti-PSU poster on a message board. LOL

Regarding Penn State's 2019 team...it will be significantly stronger than this past season's team. Coach Dambach had to fill a lot of holes after the 2017 season. They graduated seven players including current NWSL players Frannie Crouse and Brittany Basinger. On top of those losses Laura Friegang who led the 2017 squad in goals with 9, decided to quit school to turn pro in Europe. That was a huge blow. So Dambach had to replace SIX starters. This years team started the season just 6-5., but went 12-1-1 in their final 14 matches. Which is why coach Dambach won the B1G WSOC COY award for 2018.

This year's reloading will be much less challenging. They have 6 full-time starters back, but also return Kristin Schnurr who started 8 games and actually led the team in goals with 8 and tied for most points with 19. She would have been a full-time starter for most B1G soccer teams. Throw in the transfer from Boston College Sam Coffey and Dambach only needs to come up with 3 more starters. Kim Dubs the international player from Zurich, Switzerland played a lot of minutes this past season as a true freshman and most likely will start next season. That leaves only 2 positions to fill out the starting XI and Dambach will have a talent rich pool of 16 players to choose from.

Last, as a close follower of the program...the DEPTH on the 2019 edition of the Nittany Lions WSOC will be much better than on this year's squad. This year in games against top teams Dambach basically only used 13 players. Against lesser competition she used 15 players. For the upcoming season, she will have more like 15-16 players against the top teams (barring injuries) and play about 18 players against more average teams. Dambach's main problem next season will be which players to keep on the sidelines who would start for a lot of other teams. Hopefully no one transfers out. But that is a GOOD problem to have.

Wanted to add that PSU was just 1 goal shy from going to the CC with their 1-0 loss to Natty Champ Florida State. And as mentioned that was with less overall talent than coach will have for 2019.

Regarding Samantha 'Sam' Coffey her numbers speak for themselves: 17 Goals and 24 Assists for 58 Points as a freshman & sophomore at Boston College. Also, a United Soccer First Team All-American. Emily Ogle was never much of a scorer. She had 6 goals this season, but 5 on them were on PK's. Ogle I always felt was somewhat overrated. She was good at controlling play in the mid field but again never really a scoring threat like Coffey is. Coffey had a monster season with 12 goals and 14 assists for 38 points and ended up as one of the top scorers in the nation. And that was in just 20 matches as BC made an early first round exit in the NCAA's.

I would certainly put PSU in the top 6 or so teams with a strong shot on paper of making the CC.

Off the top of my head not counting Ogle:

    Jessie Fleming
    Yujie Zhao
    Jordan Dibiasi
    CeCe Kizer
    Savannah DeMelo
    Katie Cousins

I can think of several more. Don’t get me wrong she had a great year statistically. However, I’m pretty sure that she would trade it all to be on a Championship caliber team. Now she is on a team that is a legitimate contender. Nobody seriously thought that BC was a contender.

Sam could have a much better year from a skill and tactics standpoint, and yet her numbers will most likely not be what they were at BC.
That is because she has a lot more help at PSU and doesn't need to carry the team.

I think that they are in a group of 7 or 8 teams that can legitimately have the College Cup as a goal. Obviously Florida State, Stanford, UCLA and North Carolina are head and shoulders above everyone else. Virginia, Southern California and Penn State would be the next tier of teams in my opinion.

do you really think those four are head and shoulders above? I dont. FSU - clicked at the right time, but there is no guarantee that happens again. Stanford - yes if fully healthy. UCLA - did you see them without Mace? They need physicality or they will struggle vs tough teams late in the year. UNC - iIdont see them repeating this year. They lost their heart and soul player in Ashley. I dont see a clear replacement on the roster.

I think next year is a lot more open
