I never understood these games went to see a Nacional game a few years back and the stadium was pretty empty. Even the national team games I have gone to in nyc have been kind of empty I mean fine most fans who can just watch Nacional or America every week will pass on a friendly if they played In Colombia I just don’t see how they make new fans(which seems like the goal) or money (empty stadium)
the teams may make money... it is usually the organizer (not someone from the teams) who pays to the teams a fixed ammount. The onus is on the Organizer to sell and profit from the event. At the end it is just a preseason friendly, and Colombians (anywhere) don't go to those in masse. And I agree. Unless I was living in the US for a long period of time without seeing my team live then I would go. Otherwise.. meh. I don't understand why everyone flocks to those ManU/Juventus/Real/Barca friendlies in the states.. they are expensive and they don't mean anything. The stars play for like 15 minutes and that's it. It is not like you are seeing the players in top form in a competitive environment. I see it as justa cash grab... that works because those stadiums are FULL.
you answered your own question, its because they never see those teams play or most likely even get to attend games at all in the US. I recently went to an Orlando City game and the stadium was pretty full and had at least some sort of atmosphere going on in a certain stand. Football quality was really poor though, shocking actually.
Muy lindo todo esto pero necesitamos ya el equipo que nos de títulos viejo 👊👊👊 @AmericadeCali @RgatoPerez @tulioagomez pic.twitter.com/OAwzKF71Qz— Americanos en toda la Galaxia. (@America_Galaxia) July 18, 2018 Game ended 0-0

América de Cali have sacked manager Pedro Felicio Santos just 14 games after the unknown Portuguese coach was given his first job at one of Colombia's biggest clubs. Winning just 4 games, "Pedrito de Portugal" was ridiculed by the media & unloved by fans.https://t.co/bookxJ0lKE— Carl Worswick (@cworswick) August 19, 2018
They looked horrible against us. it seems like a major team vs. a B team in Medellin. It was pathetic from America fan's point of view. This club should get Diego Umaña or Pecoso as head coach. I believe that one of them can succeed more, although the club needs to get better reinforcements and quickly. Their squad simply not good enough.
if Nacional can put 2 goals agains any team, that team is bad. I know.. Nacional is dreadfull scoring goals. 2 has been in the top quartile of goal this semester.
They are using a former player as the coach for now. Saw their top management are former players too which is kind of cool. Rumor Alexis Mendoza or Leonel for their coaching spot
Tough if they are Colombian Americans maybe. I just don’t want a historic Colombian team to become a feeder club to some shit MLS club
They are in a precarious position. And one where they don't have a lot of leverage. They need money injected into the team if they're ever going to think about winning titles and not risking relegation. They have one of the biggest fan bases in Colombia so it makes good business sense. All over the world the shift of 'new money/foreign money' continues to grow. I've been hearing about this for a while now, so maybe it's more smoke and mirrors.
