I am still shocked that Peter isn’t called up - especially since she probably didn’t see it coming herself

MVT appears to be going younger with her selection, which would explain her omission of Peter. What are your thoughts on Giulia Gwinn? I watched the recent friendly with Spain and she seemed a real bright spot for Germany. A lot of meaningful actions throughout the game, fast and strong on the ball as well.

It’s not surprising though that Peter’s dropped as she’s been poor/awful for years. She was the heart of the mess under Jones.

I like Gwinn and I believe she can be a prospect for the future. She’s been good whenever she’s gotten a chance, but for noe I’ll stick with Huth at the right side.

I've never been a fan of Peter's game. From an outside perspective, Germany's weakness in the past few years has been their defense. However, from the few games I have seen recently, Elsig has impressed me quite a bit.

Gwinn impressed me, her game's quite mature for her age. I haven't seen enough of Huth's game to make a judgement.

To be fair, no one has been a fan of Peter’s game as she’s just a very poor CB somehow playing for Wolfsburg... I mean, she’s basically playing because she receives blatant favouritism by the coaches. I think everyone here’s in agreement that Johanna Elsig is Germany’s best CB and has been for years. Sure she has her problems but there’s more pros than cons to her game.

Are you a new follower of German WNT? You’re welcome to stay here! You know, I genuinely believe that Huth is somehow a female Werner. Gwinn’s a big talent, no doubt!

I watched a Wolfsburg game recently where Peter was playing at right full-back, she didn't seem to provide much going forward. However, as you said, there may be favoritism involved there. Here in the US it's difficult to watch German games but I catch the ones I can on YouTube etc. Hopefully, I'll be able to watch Wolfsburg v. Lyon in March but streams can be hard to find.

I've been a lurker on this and other forums for years. And as a US supporter I've always had a deep respect for the German program. But yes, recently I've been following the NT more closely and thank you for the warm welcome!

I mean, she basically provides crosses and hopes for the best... And when it happens it’s because she has tons of place because you know how superior Wolfsburg is... favouritism is definitely involved as Steffi Jones basically picked her to play for unknown reasons despite being consistently poor... and that costed Steffi her job!

Are you from the US, or are you supporting them? US and Germany are the two top-dogs in the women’s game :whistling: or Germany was

Well, it would appear as though you don't have to worry about Peter anymore; at least as far as the national team goes. I must say, however, that MVT was an interesting hire for Germany. And became even more so after she failed to qualify Switzerland for the world cup. Although, the appointment could still work out in Germany's favor, her selection for the most recent camp looks promising.

Both, I'm from the US and I support them. However, I'm a student of the women's game so naturally Germany's a massive part of that. Also, Germany remains a top dog in my eyes. Until France, England, Australia, etc. prove they can win a major tournament this will remain the case.

Hopefully that’s right! I think most of us are critical of how DFB has handled this whole mess of a situation with hiring MVT at the end of the whole process... I mean, why not continue with Hrubesch? Apparently he never intended to stick around so long because DFB probably didn’t believe that MVT would need to qualify as 2nds when their biggest opponents in the group was Scotland lol

Germany’s performances the last years are not worthy of a topdog status at all imo  And they have the players to easily avoid this but Steffi Jones, the worst coach ever, insisted on keeping Blässe, Peter, Henning and Kerschowski as first choices in her defense lol

who the heck is #34? While it might be admirable to call up some new. upcoming players. I got to ask if it's the right time? MVT should be more focusing on picking the 14 players she'll use in an competitive game.. We all remember, last year;s French coach who put into her lineup several new ones along with the vets & got summarily got blown away by even by Stefi Jones. Hate to see this happen with MVT

I think MVT is a better coach then Steffi Jones...

But that shouldn’t be too hard :whistling:
I just hope Elsig will play and continue to establish herself

Sjoeke Nüsken? I thought the name looked familiar, but couldn't place her. Then googled her and "yes, that's her". A commanding midfielder. I remember her from two games: Germany lost to Norway in the U16 Nordic Open final not far from where I live, and won on penalties in the bizarre ABBA-penalty shoot-out in the semi-final at U17 Euros last year. It's impressive to be in contention for a senior World Cup spot for Germany at only 17.

but MVT picked Kiwic to start(for the Swiss NT) that when Abbe is still playing(for FC Zurich) is really questionable. Abbe might of been over the hill, but Kiwic can't defend PERIOD,
THANKS(somehow I felt like a Scandinavian might answer that question, lol) other picks; Oberdorf just turned 17, Lohmann 18, but add currently injured but still viable stars like Laudehr, Demann, Kemme, Bremer & then you got to think that MVT should be also looking potential goal scorers which the Bundesliga this year been producing quite a few; Islacker, Hoppius, Wassmuth, Freigang

so the NT list could be potentially over 40 players(& yeah, Thomsen, I think Peter will still use her pull with the Neid cartel to try get on the squad!)

MVT appears to be building for 2023 with these selections. This team, on paper, could still make a semi-final. Whether this approach is correct or not... that's another matter.

there's no doubt they deserve the world's #2 spot based on it;s talented players, bur sometimes there seems to be neglect on woso in Germany, by fans & odd coaching choices.

the interim coach, Horst, was my favorite, After last year;s horrific WC qualifiers loss b then coach, Stefi Jones, where the Iceland coach made this bold statement

    "ALL GERMANS PLAY ALIKE"

so it was refreshing to see Horst understood the 'need for speed' & brought faster players like Schuller, Huth, Doorsoun Elsig, Rall & Lottwein into the forefront. He had ab undefeated record during his brief tenor, but guessing because of his age(late 60's)didn't want the stress to continue

Not sure yet what MVT will being, she had to guide the Swiss with a lot less talent. The one scary thing might be she keeps her defense rather sparse Here getting obliterated by England in a friendly last year

I understand where you're coming from in terms of a coach you don't quite trust (Jill Ellis); and perhaps I'm a bit naive about Germany's prospects in the upcoming tournament. You and others on this board certainly have been following the German team much longer than I.

Also, If I were MVT I'd start Giulia Gwinn during the world cup. I know it's the feeling of some here that she's a, "prospect for the future," but for me there's such a maturity to her game already. She almost always picks out the right pass. Her crossing could use some work but she's fast and strong on the ball; and her motor runs for days.

If I had to forecast... I'd say Germany reaches the semi-final this world cup, which is better than what I believe the US will do. There's a high probability that the US bombs out in the quarterfinal against France in Paris this time around. Our track record against France hasn't exactly been stellar of late. But the friendly this January should shed extra light on the potential fixture this summer. Anyway, sorry for the long winded response.

Germany have a very favourable route to a semi-final if everything «goes as planned» but this team has been so inconsistent the last years that a few loss under MVT’s lead might lead them to lose confidence again

I’d say that a fair competition between Huth and Gwinn for a possible RW spot at the WC in the starting eleven would be fair - that being said Huth’s showed more of her class than Gwinn in that position imo although Huth’s played more games - I view her as the female Werner

I would also consider to move Popp back in a midfield role and let maybe Schüller play alone on top :whistling:

MVT could play both. Horst played both in a friendly v. Italy to great effect. Huth at LW and Gwinn at RW. The attack was very dynamic in my opinion. Germany ended up winning that game 5-2.

And I agree, Germany could play something like a 4-2-3-1 with Popp as DM and Schüller as your lone striker.

well in Horst's 3rd game he coached, he went to Canada & beat FIFA;s #5 team despite not having the services of Maro, Popp or Dallmann & bit unfamiliar playing on turf. It seemed so easy for the players to flow into Horst's more basic, diamond mid, game plans. So here's hoping that MVT doesn't try to spin her own style too fast. She's got obviously more experience than Jones. But for to wonder if she's another follower of the cult of personality of Jorgie(who you remember send Manuel Neuer out of the goal mouth & upfield for like the last 5 minutes of the game. lol)

are there any friendlies planned as of yet?(so far Germany hasn't entered any of the cups( SBC Algarve, ect.)
France is an excellent 'friendlies' team due that they usually start 5-8 players from their famed Lyon club(so the chemistry is there all ready) But then usually flop on the world stage(bowing out in the quarters of the last 4 major tournaments) Don't know why, I personally think it's their summer training regime held at a sort of luxurious/fairy tale castle called La Fontaine ,which unfortunately doesn't prepare them for the mental toughness needed to win a 6-7 game tournament)

Horst seemed to have a fondness for Gwinn the last 3-4 games he coached. But there was also injuries to Marozsan & my fav, Linda Dallmann, during this period. Playing time probably depends if MVT switches to 5 mids,
Noticing on the Swiss NT she coached, she does allow a bit more of 1v1 attacking(as compared to previous GE coaches preferring more combo passing to set up goals) preferring younger players over vets(though that might of been that the Swiss NT was so undermanned, talent wise)

I only know that Germany will play Sweden in April which will be a good test

Sadly if Maro’s fit, Magull and Dallmann will be used as subs

True, France is known for being great in friendlies coupled with early exits from tournaments, but this tournament feels different with France being at home.

    You're not fond of Maro?
