Here's a little ditty from Arseblog, by way of Slade...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=206&v=gTSEqsNtBkM

Put a few smiles on my face, the biggest of which being for:

"Do you know it doesn't matter... how many goals go in our net... cos we've got Aubameyang and Lacazette!"

p.s. To all fellow gooners, here's to having a friendly, peaceful holiday with friends and family... and Emery Christmas!

Not that it takes a lot away, but for context 7 of those are from corners and set pieces—not high probability chance creation. In terms of XGA there is about 5 players around 0.2/90 including Mesut, Ramsey, pea, iwobi, miki.

Seven scoring chances from set pieces and corners implies someone got on the end of those passes. Set pieces and corners may be low probability scoring opportunities, because the defense is organized, but when they find a teammate in the box they are not necessarily low probability chances.

Re XGA, does it take into account whether the pass is half a step behind the teammate, making it difficult to get off a shot even though they are in a good scoring position? If not I'd rather look at key passes per 90, There only three players averaging more than 2 key passes per 90 for Arsenal, Ramsey, Ozil, and Kola and Emery apparently doesn't trust two of them.

Unfortunately, I see parallels between Emery's relationship with Ozil and Mourinho's relationship with Pogba.

Key pass is any pass that results in a shot. XA in theory at least accounts for the position of the shot. And the models vary, but I’m not aware of any XG model that accounts for the quality of the pass. I agree that is a big limitation. But Orbinho was clearly trying make a point that Mesut is still our most creative player. In key passes, yes. But as we know xG, despite its limitations, is a better model than simply shots for modeling gold scored. So XA is therefore a better metric for creating goals. Therefore Mesut is not our most creative player this seasons and is well behind where he was in previous seasons.

While you can assume that expected goals is the best model for predicting goals scored based on the location of the shot, it does not necessarily follow that expected assists is the best metric for predicting assists, my reservations about the quality of the pass that creates the shot is one wild card and there are probably others. I would also suggest that creativity plays a big factor in the build up to goals, e.g. without Ozil's pass to Kola Arsenal don't score the first goal against Burnley, but Ozil doesn't get ctedit for either an key pass or XA. His numbers may be well behind where he was in previous seasons, but I still consider Ozil as Arsenal's most creative player.

Andrew on Arsecast was a man after my heart today when he went on an opening tirade against Sweet Caroline being the song they play after we win at home. I agree with him 1000%... WTF.

Whatever happened to Move On Up by Curtis Mayfield? Now that was a real song.

Neil Diamond's "anthem" is literally sung by my dad and his octogenarian friends in their retirement home every Friday for happy hour.

If they can't make a bloody trade during the winter transfer window, at least they should be able to change that song! PLEASE?!!

Plus numerous sports teams in the U.S. have been doing it for a while now -- the Liverpool Red Sox come to mind. Yeah, no offense to Neil but I prefer Curtis.

Just saw that, as well. Yeah, no way Arsenal could touch that, even if Ozil wasn't already on the books.

I'm no fan of Juve but good luck to him personally.

He's definitely getting paid more by Juve, but I think the Italian number is gross while in England wages are reported net.

    Bumping this thread...

Just listened to a pretty fascinating Arsecast, a chat about the business-side of the EPL, along with musings about what comes next, including a possible Euro super league. Josh Robinson who co-wrote a book which some will probably want to read (you know who you are!), which is called "The Club"

Anyway here's the podcast if you wanna skip the book ;)

And one more off-topic tidbit which popped up in the last matchday thread, which may end up warranting its own thread, depending on what we hear in the next 5 days...

I think it's supposed to be NC, DC and LA. Initially there were rumors of Chicago, but we'll prob get Roma and Chivas or something.

That sounds logical. Last time they happened to play at my own team's home stadium... couldn't have been a better deal for me. Can't really assume they'd be back in the northeast. So I guess I'd be OK with DC, but man would that be oppressively hot in July.

So Arsenal in the usa recently have played-
    New York(east coast)
    California 2 games(west coast)
    California,DC , North Carolina(west and east coast)

I think they're forgetting about a large part of the US
