And there you have it. CP never got off the bench. Not even used as a "time wasting" sub.

    He's gone this January.

One might hope, assuming he lands in a better spot. Perhaps Favre was asked not to damage the merchandise right before the holidays.

Not sure the time wasting sub would have been a huge indicator of respect for CP. It would have been a lot more indicative to see who came in if they had needed a goal after the 60th minute....

Good win. Time for me to cut back on paying attention to BVB for a while, though.

I’d love him to prove he’s got the mental fortitude to fight his way out of this cluster. That said, the coach has no faith in him and that’s really hard as a youngster. I think he needs some rehab, starting with a big hug from Klopp.

Would you sell an important backup when you were in the middle of a title challenge?

It's not impossible, but seems incredibly unlikely. Summer move makes sense, all things considered.

He needs to play. That's the bottom line. Sitting on the bench for six months does nothing positive for his career, even if BVB win the title. He's out of favor and his confidence is shot.

You might not want to sell, but if the money is right; you WILL sell.

    We'll see.

Issue is money is not going to be right given his first half of the season

    Exactly.

But yes, just like last summer when he was surely moving... we will see.

I totally agree, he does need to play for himself and his career... but BVB are in no position to say "sure man, you need to play so we will take an offer that leaves us even a bit more vulnerable to succumb and not win the BL" -- if anything they are probably saying "give us 6 months and lets go win a league together!" Do you think BVB cares about losing 20M pounds or so on CP when they are trying to win a title? They don't need that money... they want a league!

I think it's important to remember that the only actual concrete info we have about his situation, at this point, is that he's going to talk to BVB over the break about "his future". Everything else about a move has been speculation from as far as I can tell are fairly crappy sources.

Again, I've talked my head off about this over the past 18 months, I apologize for doing it again here since all we can do is wait. Just saying if it happens next month as opposed to summer I'd be very surprised.

    You forgot one crucial variable.

There's no positive in keeping a player whose heart is no longer in it. And from what we have seen of him in recent games, it's fair to say he's already somewhat checked out.

And if he continues to ride the bench, he's just going to get more frustrated, and low in confidence. Not sure he can contribute to your "title run" when he's in such a mental state.

I generally do agree about the heart thing... but, like all the links to other clubs, that is something you're taking as a given on fairly poor evidence IMO. He hasn't played much but is only 1 start removed from a pretty good match against Monaco. I could just as easily argue that the reason his heart hasn't been in it is due to the fact that his future remains unresolved, but that could change after they talk this winter and agree to sell him in summer after he gives his all in 2nd half of this season! So the speculation thing cuts both ways rather easily.

The "contribution to the title run" might be what happens after the winter rest, after clarification with the manager/board, and especially if a guy like JBL or Reus or Sancho picks up an injury.

But yeah, we will have to see. 5-ish weeks to go until deadline, we'll see who was right.

Unless the reporting that the fee was already agreed to is accurate.
