As good as Macario is, Shaw is better--a more dangerous scoring threat and will be a more productive pro.

As a fan of Shaw I just have to say this is clearly not a good take. Macario would be on the full US team right now if she were eligible and getting playing time. Shaw is very good, but Macario is a totally different level from any forward in college right now.

its actually a very good take. Size and speed rarely slumps. One factor that is commonly overlooked is the supporting cast. I think Macario could be special BUT she could also underwhelm. Macario will need to be drafted by the right team Shaw could overwhelm defenders in the pros.

You said yourself - in College. She plays on a dominant team vs weaker opponents almost every game. That script will flip in the pros unless she manages to engineer a move to one of the better teams. She will be expected to carry the team. I can see several scenarios where that ends badly. Macario would be better off playing in Europe imo.

The USWNT is one persons opinion. Its not an indicator of who will be a better pro.

Respect your opinion but 2 things. First...Stanford is an elite team but if you think their opponents are soft just look at their schedule
Second I would suggest you look at Macario in a bit more detail. Yes she was neutralized effectively by Florida State but that was probably the only time that happen d this season Her skill on the ball, vision on the pitch and ability to find seams in traffic is matched by no one with possibly the exception of Fleming at UCLA.
Shaw is an incredibly strong physical athlete that wills herself to the goal ala a Wambach where Macario is very Marta like in that she dazzles with both individual and team efforts
I personally see both of these players being very successful for both club and country

I NEVER said they were soft. this is the only thing i dislike about this board. Word twisting. I said

"She plays on a dominant team vs weaker opponents almost every game."

that is not saying they are soft. It says she is on the better team most of the time. I have watched Macario since she was 15 years old, so with respect, I think ive seen her plenty.

The whole "matched by no one " thing is where i get off. This desire to anoint players so early with all time praise is crazy to me. Macario needs to

    1. prove she can endure the physicality in the pros
    2. prove she can impose her style of play in a league that does not generally reward it
    3. experience what it is like NOT playing on a team that has the ball a lot and is able to dictate play because they are generally superior

Before I will begin to mention her alongside a Marta. Thats my view. SO a take that says Shaw MAY be a better pro is not in any way outrageous to me.

Fair enough. To me the use of the word weaker is different than how you worded it in your rebuttal. Unfortunately that’s how these boards work. Everyone might read things differently. As I started, I respect your take just giving my input. I too have been watching her since her early ECNL days and have not missed more than 2 of her collegiate games. She is special. That said, I think every player going from college to pro will all have a potential weakness that you won’t know about until they make the next step. This is true in almost every sport

LOL at the use of "Topdrawer" and "official" in the same sentence... The "official" official list has its own issues, though :)

Watched some highlights of both and quite frankly I don't know who will be better.
Both are excellent and deserving of 1st Team AA.
Both will probably have long careers.

Let's not forget the other name on that list next to both of them.
    Ashley Sanchez.

It's also cool that Kerr and Collins both made the list at goalkeeper.
The Georgetown goalkeeper is good, but also benefited by playing against much easier competition.
