As I said, a very reasonable starting point. I'm looking forward to the league releasing the salary cap details. I'm assuming the teams must already know what it is since they're signing players.

This had me giggling. I'm picturing a field with a clock and all natural fertilizers growing baby overtimes for use in the game gradually when ties need to be settled.
CPL goes mainstream in National sport TV media with Sportsnet covering the league the entire week. See the interview with York 9 coach 1069955434855841792 is not a valid tweet id
Future Cavalry stadium plans The inaugural location and temporary venue will be on the "Meadows on the Green Ring" grounds. Don Garber is asked by @nikmartineauTVA about MLS’ relations with the Canadian Premier League.“We haven’t had any talks with them at all, and that’s probably something that should change."— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) December 7, 2018
I can see the two leagues wanting to maintain cordial relations. First just because it's always a good policy to be cordial to your neighbours and second because there will inevitably be some player transfer between the leagues. Beyond that, however, I'm not sure what they would have to talk about specifically.
After this move, I expect CPL to seek a partnership with DAZN as all European football will be on the platform. Expect a huge hike in membership and more people pulling the plug on cable. In a move that will alter the landscape of how club soccer is viewed in Canada, sources have told @TheAthleticTO that DAZN has acquired the broadcast rights to the Premier League. I think what they're looking for is whether MLS eventually chooses to have a relationship somewhere along the lines of how they tend to frequently coordinate with Liga MX or if their inclusion of 3 Canadian teams of their own ends up leading them to preclude that. I think initial reactions to the league have been a bit of a mistep by some in MLS in assuming that CPL would take a route similar to the niche of the CSL and treated them accordingly. Otherwise, there is no reason why the leagues cannot coordinate on activitiea of mutual benefit as MLS regularly does so with our neighbors to the south...
Exactly. One avenue I can see them working together on are preseason friendlies/tournaments. Right now, if you're an MLS team, your only options for friendlies are either USL teams or fellow MLS teams. Why wouldn't they want to schedule some teams who aren't familiar and are (hopefully) a level above USL?

Oh...Fury... Party's over BREAKING NEWS ⚽️#FuryFC has been advised that CONCACAF is seeking to prevent Ottawa from participating in the @USLChampionship in 2019. A late ruling against the Ottawa Fury participating in the #USL while @CPLSoccer debuts isn't just inflammatory up North; It threatens to open a North American soccer Pandora's Box https://t.co/liGtKKX0vd— NBC Sports Soccer (@NBCSportsSoccer) December 13, 2018 It's no surprise that #TFC, #VWFC and #IMFC have offered support to the Ottawa Fury in its sanctioning fight. If the goal is to not allow exceptions, will the MLS teams be in the sights of CONCACAF in the future?— Steven Sandor (@stevensandor) December 13, 2018
^ This seems odd given that no one in Canada was rocking the boat for now. The CSA was apparently willing to give the Fury and the CPL time to come to terms. Now CONCACAF decides to jump in unrequested? This unfortunately smells more like Montagliani launching some sort of personally motivated assault because the Fury didn't love his new league enough. That's too bad because he has otherwise been a breath of fresh air in CONCACAF.
I am not a big fan of multiple teams in markets here but the A-League is expanding again by adding new teams in existing markets. https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2018/12/13/australias-a-league-to-expand-to-12-clubs/ If I'm counting right, that makes three in Melbourne and two in Sydney.
That's actually not accurate. The CPL was no longer willing to give Ottawa any time after their stunt. The league said they wanted Ottawa and were willing to go to other investors. The CSA had not renewed the sanction...Ottawa publicly decreed that they'd play in USL in 2019. Fury handled this all wrong and CONCACAF put an end to it. Good
I dunno, Robert. I've generally found your optimism fairly well backed up but I think at the very least this is too early a power play by Concacaf. Concacaf should have been aware of CPLs rollout dates for teams and likely should have anticipated talks between the league and the fury. This directive should have been issued AT LEAST a year ago IMO. That would give time for Ottawa to regroup and retool things. You cannot expect them to redo their roster rules and team budget at the drop of a hat. Otherwise they should make a 2020 ultimatum. That would allow the Fury to observe the league, see that its stable THEN transition. I smell lawsuit and if Ottawa wina then say good bye to ANY fleeting chance of convincing the big 3 MLS sides to divest of MLS and invest in CPL.
No, this is NOT good. CONCACAF is being totally ham-fisted over this. Actually, not CONCACAF, it's Montagliani because I'm certain that none of the other CONCACAF executive particularly cares where the Fury play this season. He's butt-hurt over the Fury spurring his baby for the time being until they see if it actually has a pulse. Is he *that* worried that the CPL can't survive one or two seasons without the Fury!? Look, I want the Fury to eventually join the CPL and I'm sure they eventually will once they get their Expansion Fee payouts from USL. Monty is screwing with their business and may kill it just to salve his ego. I thought his desire was to grow soccer in Canada, this is not the way to do it.
