Yup like this move. Hopefully he shows just as well next season and then gets a loan in the summer transfer window to a higher quality side.

I don’t see a path for Steffen to the first team next season unless he’s performing better for Man City pre-season because he’s already at in-season form.

I'm quite curious if the club plans to dump Bravo next summer or keep him as a no.3?

Sounds like a solid move. The Crew really make out on this.
But would 6 caps at the Gold Cup solidify him the work permit? I gotta figure Horvath is gunning for that no.1 spot as well.

And should win it. Horvath is better.

I admittedly watch MLS, and I just don’t see a lot of quality in Steffen. I’m shocked there’s a market for him in Europe. For me, he’d need to prove more consistency in MLS before he was worth anything.

Why do you grade Steffen so low? Saying he needs to prove more consistency isn't deep enough.

I admittedly don't watch much MLS or the Belgian league. My viewing of both Steffen and Horvath is fleeting and sporadic, but from what I have seen, the only attribute Horvath is demonstrably superior to Steffen in is physical length.

He seems poorly positioned on a lot of goals he gives up. He’s capable of some really great ones, but he gives up too many goals that should be routine stops.

Look at him in the playoffs this year.

Another thing: NBC pays the EPL 1 billion for its current tv rights deal.

Why should USMNT soccer fans watch a league that doesn't allow US players to play in it?

USMNT fans should boycott watching the EPL until it is more balanced in terms of letting americans play and lets more than 4 qualify.

I'm sure if the EPL lost that billion dollars they might not shrug it off as coolly as you think they would. I knw they are super-rich but I'm sure a billion less in revenue might make them sit up a bit and take notice. the EPL cares a lot about the american market and getting american dollars - it's time they care about american players a little bit too. if american soccer fans were more politically astute they would not support the EPL.

Side note: i don't think it is a coincidence that there has been a big rise in american players in the Bundesliga following fox sports' deal with the german league - the bundesliga is smart and knows that their business interests are served by having some players from the countries that are paying them to broadcast their league internationally.

Oh. I guess as China pays more than NBC the teams should be forced to play one Chinese player at all times.

    What a bizarre argument

You are also assuming that USMNT fans are the majority of people watching the Premier League in the USA

Question. Does this mean he will get his City wages when he joins them in July or do they start when the MLS season begins? I'm kinda confused. Cause he's a City player now right, but he just can't fully join until next summer.

Chinese players aren't good enough. Americans are.

It's not about quality or ability for americans who want to play in England - it is about laws preventing them from doing so.

I'm not saying that EPL teams should be forced to have any americans at all - just that they should be free to sign as many of them as they want without restriction.

nothing bizarre about that at all.

He's not a Man City player until July.

They have just reached an agreement to sign him then

Right. Call your MP about the laws and complain to them.

Why aren't you complaining about Spain and their non EU law?

So, it's like a pre-contract so to speak? That makes sure he doesn't talk to any other interested parties?

Yeah, I saw that they'd released a presser about him being gone, but with no attached value. I was hoping someone had found out. Guess not. Ah well.

I never get why they're "undisclosed". It seems quite logical to know how much a club paid or was paid for a player. It seems to happen an extraordinary times to US players. Like Michael Bradley's move to BMG or to Chievo.

A few weeks ago it was reported 7-10 million. So, I don't get why releasing that figure is controversial or so.

LOL my "MP"? okay. you are clearly British.

Are you even a USMNT fan? I doubt it. If not, why are you here??

and I have complained about the policies of countries like spain, italy, etc - I don't watch those leagues because they are discriminatory countries that do not offer opportunities to USMNT players - it's not only England I have beef with.

I keep seeing this. Not just you but a lot of media. Yet players really love him.

For instance, the 2018 MLS Keeper of the Year went to Steffen because of the player vote. Probably the highest disparity ever seen before.

    Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year
    Player Vote %
    Club Vote %
    Media Vote %
    Average %

    Zack Steffen (CLB)
    36.18%
    24.04%
    14.55%
    24.92%

    Stefan Frei (SEA)
    6.76%
    18.27%
    31.52%
    18.85%
    Luis Robles (NY)
    10.00%
    22.12%
    22.73%
    18.28%
    Tim Melia (SKC)
    12.06%
    21.15%
    16.67%
    16.63%
    Brad Guzan (ATL)

Pretty sure he's just pointing out you have no say in the matter.

And maybe you should give it a rest. You're the only one beating this drum.

I wasn't aware this was a USMNT forum. It appears to say Yanks Abroad on the forum list.

Let's put it this way. I was in the Azteca in qualifying last time around.

Please drop the tangent, or feel free to start a separate thread to discuss it. It doesn't really have to do with Steffen at this point.
