I'm not sure how much actual thought/analysis is being put into their ratings and rankings. I think they play the PR angle. They are a paid media site, so the more shuffle/churn they can get in their rankings the more exposure they get to different audiences. They also like to be more inclusive, definitely spreading the spotlight to schools outside the usual suspects (which is a good/bad thing depending on how you look at it). Having 7/8 ACC schools/players in your rankings (even if deserved) isn't going to get you the same exposure as if you highlighted others (maybe slightly less deserving from a performance perspective). You have to take what they're doing with a huge grain of salt. Teams that aren't normally in the rankings or don't normally have players rated that highly eat this shit up and promote the crap out of their site when they get mentioned.

They also managed to honor 1 FSU player in their weekly best eleven up to the final four. That’s, what, 14 weeks * 11 players recognized? 1 from the title winning team.

I think you are being overly harsh. TDS do the best they can with the resources. its funny how some on here use it to analyze recruiting but then criticize when their fav player is not ranked high enough. Bottom line is its a big country and they need to rank players outside the top 2 conferences. Does it matter? not really.

I comment on the club players I have seen multiple times. Ive said that JC was not worthy of the #1 and got hated on for it. There is no pleasing some.

Jaelin Howell is still like number 26 in the revised freshman rankings.
That is a travesty! Top five among freshman for sure. Top 30 among all players in my opinion

so its not a travesty. They adjusted whatever mid season view they had and came out with a list. Is it going to please everyone? No. Is it perfect? No. are they idiots? No.

Yes they are idiots. Not being harsh at all. Why bother to rank players if you aren’t going to do a good job of it. I don’t care where they rank the players on the teams that I follow. The people that matter know who the best players are and it isn’t going to be influenced by TDS or what “fans” think. They give way to much love to small time, small conference players when the truth is 95%+ of the best players play on the best teams.

I’m not a huge proponent for TDS. In fact I think they get semi lazy. Their top XI teams mimic very closely to the United Soccer Coaches All America teams. The top 100 is somewhat random and yes panders to a little bit of every conference

I just went back and looked at TDS post season awards and top XIs.
They do mimic the USCA's AA teams very closely, and they do pull from the bigger schools by and large.

Like any business, they cater to their clients. Small schools pay subscriptions too. The "idiots" are people who take it too seriously.

I recall. They also beat top teams, had multiple ACC players of the week, and watched teams like Florida and many directional or service schools rack up multiple recognitions on that list. Never seeing Kuikka get a mention combined with defenders from teams that won with few goals conceded over the weekend who tallied a goal or assist demonstrated pretty clearly to me that they don't watch the games. Not surprising given the volume of games in the end.

Just went back and watched some post season interviews and comments from Mark.
At one event where fans, media and FSU leaders Pres Thrasher and wife, acting AD, Andy Miller players and a portion of the Marching Chiefs.

Mark was funny. It was also informative.
It gave great credit to video staff who not only breakdown opponents, but individually broke down players' practice performances and players were given those critiques.
He talked about game planning with his coaches and the give and take that takes place. He jokingly? commented that in those meetings he often found out his IQ was lower than he thought and he learned new vocabulary.
In another interview he talked about hiring coaches. He seeks out opinions of those he respects and hires what he thinks are the best available. For instance, he coached against Ima in youth teams and did not know Bristol, but went on recommendations of those he trusted. He didn't stay within his circle of soccer friends.
    Very lucky to have him.
The only downside is while other schools are having articles touting their recent signing class, we get crickets. I don't like it, but I wouldn't trade him for any other college coach out there.

Just wanted to take a moment to give some serious love to Kirsten Pavlisko. I'm sure Mark, your teammates and the rest of the staff don't take for granted what you brought to this team. As an FSU fan, neither did I. Started/played every single minute of every single match except for 1. When Emma Koivisto graduated who knew there was another amazing freshman on her way to Tallahassee that could step right in. Mark did. Now we all do. I appreciate you Kirsten and I'm glad you're on our side.

007 and others have commented about FSU putting it together at the right time.
There is certainly some truth to this POV
I'll reiterate what has been mentioned. FSU lost a number of players throughout the year to various national team duties (youth and full).
I believe we only played the lineup that won the natty for like 6 games. Injuries also played a part in that. We lost 6 players during the year or before to injury.

AFter analyzing the results and pouring over the stats, I've drawn the conclusion that we started coming together in early October.
Our losses were to UNC Sept 14. They were better at that time.
BC Sept 23rd 2-1 Not our best game.
After that, we had 2 losses and a bad tie.
0-1 to Clemson Oct 4 We are beginning to come together. 24(6) to 5(1) shot advantage.
NCSt tie 1-1 Oct 13, they scored on a last minute corner to tie game. 37(18) to 5(2) shot advantage.
Miami 0-1 Oct 25th 25(7) to 1(1) shot advantage and total on ball dominance.

Mark made a point post season that the late loss to UM didn't bother him because we were playing the right way (possession and dangerous looks), and he knew if we kept doing that, the results would come.

My point is that starting in early October we were becoming a force to be reckoned with. A couple of bad results on the scoreboard gave an inaccurate impression of how good FSU really was. I promise you the other ACC coaches knew even before the ACC tournament.
We completed the process of COMING TOGETHER late in the season, but for those who followed us closely it wasn't a surprise!!!
The surprising thing was how seamlessly we filled in for 2 late injury losses in Lynch and Bollinger.

If Deyna comes back, I'm thinking CC again. Even if she doesn't, we will be a force IMO.
Getting Emily Madril, Lynch and Bollinger back will be huge!

I would say that beating UCLA 4-1 in Tallahassee announced to the entire country that they were a contender. They didn’t sneak up on anyone they honestly just seemed to only bring their “A” game against teams of similar caliber (which isn’t ideal but could be worse).

I discounted the UCLA win being so early. They were without Mace/Fleming. We were without Kuikka I believe.
That said, I do think big opponents get our attention much better. That is why I stated UNC was The Better team in our first meeting. It wasn't an outlier like our Clemson, NSSt and Miami games.

I contend that Stanford suffered from not being behind all year, save for 7 minutes.
