Proves that you don't have to be best all year, just the best at the end. Well done!

as an alum i still have to ask: how was that not a yellow card with clock stoppage with 10 seconds to go? As someone said the other day, you basically have to commit a felony to earn a card.

Jaelin Howell, Defensive player of the tournament and
Dallas (Miss November) Dorosy Offensive player of the tournament.

    Well deserved!
We'll miss DD to be sure.
I'm guessing Jaelin will deservedly make some preseason AA teams.

We have plenty of alumni playing for their respective national teams, but just one the the USWNT Casey Short.

I believe Jaelin Howell and Malia Berkely have what it takes in the coming years. We'll see!

FLORIDA STATE WINS THE 2018 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
    December 02, 2018

CARY, N.C. (Seminoles.com) – Deyna Castellanos delivered the pass that put the national championship within reach.

Dallas Dorosy calmly put it into the back of the net.

Castellanos’ low, early cross and Dorosy’s sliding finish in the 60th minute lifted Florida State to a 1-0 victory over North Carolina in Sunday’s NCAA College Cup Final, clinching the Seminoles’ second national championship here at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Florida State’s win over the Tar Heels – their second this year and 10th all-time – capped a stunning run to the title that saw the Seminoles knock off the sport’s biggest names.

Beginning on Oct. 28, Florida State beat No. 9 Duke, No. 12 Virginia and No. 3 North Carolina on the way to an ACC tournament title, and then No. 20 South Florida, No. 6 Southern California and No. 14 Penn State to clinch a spot in their 10th College Cup.

They then beat No. 1 Stanford on Friday to set up their title-game clash with the Tar Heels.

    Well Done Seminoles
Wasn’t the most exciting of Finals but it was earned. To hold Stanford and UNC without a goal and almost no shots was incredible defense
Mark was easily the coach of the tournament

    Picked this up from Noles247

'Dorosy was named the 2018 Women's College Cup Most Outstanding Offensive Player. She had three goals during the NCAA Tournament. FSU midfielder Jaelin Howell was named the 2018 Women's College Cup Most Outstanding Defensive Player. Both were also members of the All-Tournament Team, along with FSU midfielder Natalia Kuikka, midfielder Gabby Carle, midfielder Malia Berkely, and Jeffers at goalkeeper."

Of course Carle, Kuikka and Berkely are all defenders, not midfielders, but that's splitting hairs.

Ten years ago, I was convinced FSU was going to win a national title with DaCosta, Pressley, Huster, McCarty, Short and numerous other top tier talents. It took longer than expected but now FSU not only has one, but two National Championships. Hats off the ALL the former players who paved the way for this program and especially to Coach Mark Krikorian for building on top of what Coach Baker started, and solidifying his place as one of the nations premier soccer coaches!

Did any1 else see how lesnak went far post thinking that's where Dallas was going because that's what she did in the acc championship.

My impression was she was going far post to save the ball sent in by DC.
    Not 100% sure!
DD barely got to that ball! Huge effort play by her. She should be renamed Carolina Killer!
    They'll be glad she graduated!

I honestly think Leshnak never saw her coming. Only reason any keeper would ever go right vs holding ground

Yeah, I read that as she's going down to cover the ball for a back post cross.

I think this is part of what Deyna gets you too. A quick trigger and lethal shot from that far out, the keeper is entirely focused on her and not able to track the other runs as well; never sees DD crashing.

Another great article by Graham Hays
I know many have criticized Julie Foudy, but I though she was gracious and appropriately complimentary of our Noles.

Quotes like the following make me love Anson Dorrance. He is gracious, fair minded and tells the truth, at the way he sees it.

"Other programs recruit internationally -- Canada's Jessie Fleming (UCLA), England's Alessia Russo (North Carolina) and countrywoman Grace Fisk (South Carolina) are among the current stars (although Russo missed the College Cup with an injury). But for no other elite program is it as much a cornerstone.

"He's earned this right to recruit the elite foreign player, and I genuinely respect him for it," Anson Dorrance said the day before the final. "Because I know in a living room, if I'm going head-to-head with him [for] an American ... 75 percent of the time, I'm going to get them. Just like when I go head-to-head with Stanford, 95 percent of the time Stanford is going to get them.

"So I have no issue with what he's doing, and I respect him."

Dorrance makes big, bold points and there may be some hyperbole in his statistics. Florida State hasn't lacked for homegrown talent, from current U.S. national team defender Casey Short to Howell, a freshman who has already spent time training with the full U.S. team.

But darn if the winning goal didn't, painfully for him, underscore Dorrance's point."
Venezuelan Castellanos made a great pass to American Dorosy guarded by English player Wubben-Moy for winner past American Goalie Leshnak.

Some fans like to criticize Mark for the abundance of international recruiting. He put it into perspective IMO.
He wins head to head over FSU domestically, just like Stanford wins head to head with UNC domestically in recruiting.

Extraordinary season, College Cup, and win today! Congrats Seminoles. Beating defending national champ Stanford on a 45 game unbeaten streak , then beating another pretty decent :) team in the final. It hurt, but hats off to y'all. Among many things, the ability to maintain possession vs. UNC's pressure was really impressive. We have a pretty good team coming back. I see another 3 games in 2019. Enjoy the offseason... I mean , like really enjoy it.. don't stay fit, don't practice. JUST ENJOY ! all the best

I want to add my congratulations to the Seminoles for a great game and winning the Championship. Well deserved!

Ever since the ACC championship game I have been wowed with the skill of this 2018 FSU team. While I didn't fully know what to make of them during mid season with the unexpected losses, I knew all along from my knowledge of their players that they should have the talent to go all the way. And then in the ACC tournament it showed itself! I was very impressed (and worried....)

I suppose that now is the time to reveal that I also filled in a bracket and had FSU in the finals beating Loyola Chi, S. Fl, USC, Wake, and Stanford to get there (but I didn't enter the contest I ran for various reasons.) Having seen the ACC finals I debated who to pick for the championship, and ended up going with my heart with UNC. Close!

I do believe that there is no question that FSU is the best college team in the country right now. Maybe not mid season, but at the end of the season which is when it counts. I also think that Anson today also tacitly said the same thing when he talked about everyone on the FSU team having "a fabulous tactical platform" and "a tremendous skill set". Turns out that he's an astute observer too! :)

So congratulations to FSU fans everywhere but especially on Big Soccer where your presence has always been sincere and courteous. I (and I am sure many others) appreciate your presence here.

I don't actually follow US college football, I only subscribed to this thread because there were a pair of young players that I learnt to know and appreciate by watching Youth World Cups and that I wanted to follow from time to time in their careers (Deyna Castellanos and Gloriana Villalobos).

I anyway add my congratulations for the title to the other ones'. A pair of seasons ago (or such, don't remember perfectly) FSU, on paper, looked at least as strong as today, but the results weren't actually coming: now I feel like they reaped the harvest not only from this season, but also from all the good work from the past.
    Way to go, Noles!

I needed to add one last thing to the 2018 thread.

In the Semifinal, after Carle scored her remarkable goal, and Stanford was showing some life, Foudy queried, "Can their backup GKer deal with the #1 offense in the country?"
    It was a legitimate question.
Certainly Caroline Jeffers more than did her part.
The bigger takeaway after the CC was how remarkable the defense as a whole was.

We held Stanford to 12 shots with only 1 on goal; meanwhile we had 11 shots but 6 on goal.
UNC was equally as dynamic offensively. We held them to 8 shots with only 2 on goal.
Suffice to say, both teams were used to a great deal more offensive opportunities.
SU beat UNC early in the season 2-1 in OT. SU had 19 (9) while UNC had 13 (6).
Against lesser teams it was way more lopsided and dynamic.

The back line and midfield (an even occasionally the forwards) played magnificent defense limiting opportunities on goal and keeping CJ alert, but not too busy!

    Great defense guys!

2 Stanford 1st teamers (Macario, DiBiasis), 1 2nd teamer (Cook) and 1 3rd teamer (McGrady).
    O FSU 1st teamers 1 2nd teamer (Kuikka) 1 3rd teamer (Deyna)

    Freshman teams
    Stanford 1 First teamer (Girma)
FSU 2 Firsts teamers (Zhao and Howell)
    1 Second Teamer (Bollinger)

Zhao national Freshman of the year Coach of the Year Krikorian.

TDS did better with these post season awards, but still love Stanford the most.

Glad to see Collins GKer USC get some love 2nd team. She was not in TDS top 100 previously.
Thought Emily Fox from UNC should have been 1st or 2nd team AA. Made neither. In fact, did not see her on TDS top 100.

Malia Berkely was #78 in top 100. too low
GAbby CArle, like Fox did not make top 100.

Feel free to add other significant omissions or give kudos where they are deserved.

TDS is a joke. The only thing that they got right is Kirkorian as COY and Zhao as FOY. How isn't a player from the National Champion not even a finalist for the MAC Hermann? How do they decide the GK because none of the listed ones can use their feet? I'm sorry but Bollinger wasn't the best freshman keeper this year. I hope that not many people subscribe to that rag.
