I’m betting The Dong at least mentions Columbus, but only briefly in passing, and manages to throw in some sort of backhanded remark.
Wonder no more. The league comm shop has scripted Don's response, as posted yesterday, and while he gets himself in trouble when he tries to ad lib, Don is terrific at reading a script: “We continue to be very encouraged with the significant progress made in Columbus by the Haslam and Edwards families and the Columbus Partnership,” MLS commissioner Don Garber said. “To ensure the long-term success of Crew SC, and for the Club to remain in Columbus, a critical component of our discussions has been plans for a new stadium, as well as increased fan and corporate support. We hope to see these essential elements finalized soon. While there is work to be completed, we commend Mayor Ginther, Alex Fischer, the City, the County, and all who are engaged in this process, which we believe will deliver great benefits to Crew fans and the Columbus community for generations to come.”
hhmmm Beeler is carried by the cartoon syndicate my paper uses. A lot of rural Tennesseans are going to be confused when I run this next Wednesday on the Op-Ed page.
Also wanted to share that I stopped at Swenson’s (for the first time) when I was in Akron for a seminar on Monday to pick up a couple of items to bring to my father. Watching the employees running around was amusing.
Surprisingly our stadium plans are still one of the top headlines on the MLS webpage. https://www.mlssoccer.com/
So, MLS Cup is on the same day as the College Cup Final. Has it been this way for a while? Anyway, that was a brilliant segue to say "Zips at 8 tonight on ESPNU".
Shows up as a top headline for me. I mean, we are in MLS Cup week. You can't really expect a stadium that is opening in 2021 and not yet having city approval overshadowing the MLS Cup hype they are trying to put out.
Where’s Greeley? They are both MIA. I still feel like we are being used by MLS as leverage in Austin. It’s like they refuse to complete our sale until the Austin lease is signed. Otherwise why delay? Maybe we’ll find out in the very near future?
I think they are just treading lightly with Austin. Don't want to piss anyone off there. They have Precourt and Greeley trying to run the show. They have to be extra careful and extra helpful with those clowns. I can't envision a scenario where Precourt doesn't sell a decent share of Austin FC to someone in the near future who actually has money.
So Fischer said the sale of the Crew would take place sometime around Christmas but before New Years during the City Council meeting. I wonder if that is just the announcement or if it is the actual deal itself? Also, I wonder when the BoG will vote on it. IM had mentioned he thought that would be this week or next. Just wondering how the timeline will come together and we can finally celebrate.
I think Precourt will make out once he sells a stake of his investorship in Austin. That is when his nice 100 million dollar discount on an expansion team will be rewarded to his pocket.
And buy extra tickets. My 2019 season tickets have already been paid for, but I have no option to buy additional tickets.
