I predict we make the World Cup every cycle he's in charge and we fail to win the World Cup every cycle he's in charge.
Assuming the website I read is correct, Portugal hasn't beaten the US since 12/20/90. That surprised me, but also they've only played four times since that game.
I remember accidentally waking up really early that morning and saying "what the heck" and instead of rolling over, I went down stairs and turned on the TV just in time to catch this....
This is another reason why time travel should be a thing. Unfortunately, there are too many reasons why it *can't* be a thing.
Those viewing parties in 2002, when it was a fresh concept, in the middle of the freaking night, remain some of my favorite memories of my life. Wrecking my car on the way out of the parking lot after the Portugal game, not so much. But my rental car still got me to the other viewing parties.
Hi @Flyer Fan thanks for your question. My employer initially laughed at me when she saw me hanging up an American Flag at my cubicle, and remnants of Manic Panic red hair dye on my neck. After she went into her office she came back out to see me. She asked me, "What are you doing here?" I replied, that I was in a great mood since the USA beat Portugal, and I was a bit tired but ready for work! She asked, "Do you remember calling out just a few hours ago?" I replied that I did not, but oh well I am here and ready to work. She then told me to "Go home, before anyone else realizes that you are still drunk." I obliged.
https://www.si.com/soccer/2018/12/12/claudio-reyna-family-jack-death-giovanni-dortmund Posting this here because it talks about Gio Reyna, 16 yo son of Claudio, who I didn't really know about. Seems like a very promising potential future MNT player. But the other half of the article involves the illness and death of his older brother, so chopped onions alert in full effect.
IDK, I can get to 3 reams in CONCACAF that are better than we are. Mexico & Costa Rica certainly. Think we are fighting for #3 with Panama, Honduras, T&T, Jamaica, & Canada.
So number 3 puts us through for the 2022 WC and then the field is expanded in 2026 so we just have to be top 6 in CONCACAF. I don't see us bombing out of the hex two cycles in a row.
The problem may be with other results. In the last round of the last Hex, teams that had qualified did not play well in their final match. Mind you, the US's poor play prior to that left the door open. But as far as the the teams that finished 3rd and 4th wee concerned, we were better than them head to head in the Hex. They just both got somewhat lucky final round wins against teams that didn't care--or may have been happy to stick it to the US. That said, losing to T&T was unacceptable.
You just proved your own point though. Don't lose to T&T and those other results don't matter. And I do not see us losing to T&T again next cycle.
Same. For this game I went into work afterwards and just sat there for a few hours waiting for people to come into work. A lot of people didn't want spoilers so we could all go watch it again at lunch but it was hard not to spoil the result with the grin on my face all morning.
