I quibble with the word obvious. It assumes it was a completely done deal - otherwise who is going to allow a guy who might not get the job to dictate anything? The weeks since the Crews season ended suggestion it wasn’t Also, Trapp, who is a very smart player whose brain is like to transfer into a better body, captained a very young, inexperienced team. If It was a full team with a full team of vets, you’d have a case. My bet is Trapp gets some chances to play, but ultimately won’t be a big factor
Ridiculous. There are too many people who are influential stakeholders in this who would never go along simply because he's someone's brother. Berhalter may be a bad hire – time will tell – but this accusation is tin foil hat crazy.
Just reading the official USSF announcement and discussing it on the FS1 Bundesliga between-game show...
I think Berhalter will be a decent hire. I understand where skepticism may come from. I think he's got a good understanding of our player pool and what we can and can't do
Really excited to see Gregg Berhalter coaching the USMNT! He’s been with the Crew through good and bad times
Here is the chance for Bigsoccer users in New York to have their say: Berhalter will be officially introduced during a press conference with Stewart, U.S. Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro and CEO/Secretary General Dan Flynn on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 12 p.m. ET. The press conference will be streamed live on ussoccer.com. Later in the day, The Glasshouses will host “The Future is US” Fan Event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. ET. Fans are invited to enjoy food, beverages and music as well as a conversation with the new U.S. Men’s National Team head coach. Entrance is free; however, a reservation is required for the limited-space event. Fans interested in attending can RSVP by clicking here. The first 25 registered guests to arrive will receive a free “The Future Is US” t-shirt. https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...halter-named-us-mens-national-team-head-coach
The press release said Berhalter's hiring happened because he was "Chosen by U.S. Men’s National Team General Manager Earnie Stewart following a thorough search process, Berhalter’s appointment was officially ratified by the U.S. Soccer Board of Directors on Dec. 1 by a unanimous vote." That's a good one. What bullshit....
A thorough search process where they refused to even interview anyone else. I think Berhalter will be okay. Well, I don't know if I think that or am just hoping that. At least he doesn't scream unqualified to me the way Sarachan did.
Guilty as charged your honor. It’s been so damn long since I’ve seem the team play well, I have Klinnsman Stockholm syndrome and I expect us to finish last in the Hex behind Antigua and Belize if we even make the hex.... Which is pretty ridiculous now that you mention it
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2015...share_button&utm_campaign=social_share_button At least we can expect certain style of play with this guy and the intensity is going to be higher
This is good from Doyle, balanced about positives and concerns: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018/12/02/armchair-analyst-man-plan-new-head-coach-usmnt
Had to change prresidents Created a new position by committee New position had to create and execute a process Had to wait until his last job was done to finalize a new contract It’s reasonabke to me and all this consternation is drummed up drama
At least the farcical charade is over, and the January camp has a chance to be productive. I don't envision ever being enamored of this manager, but the fact that we now officially have a manger is itself positive. I don't honestly have lofty expectations for this cycle, but I expect to qualify for the World Cup, I expect to make the finals of both Gold Cups at least (as reigning 2017 GC champs we in in the Confed Cup at least playoff already), and I have genuine hopes for this Olympic tournament next year, though I don't place as much emphasis on the Olympics as some. My main hope is that NEXT cycle, with a bunch of core talent in their theoretical prime years, we have a real chance to make some big noise when we host in 2026. And I do not support re-hiring him for the next cycle, regardless of this cycle's achievements. Let me make that clear right now.
Oh, please. We ALL knew. I hope this was sarcasm. (With as much idiocy as had proliferated on the internet, my sarcasm meter is sometimes out of calibration.)
I've already written off 2022. Maybe things will improve for 2026, but even then I'm doubtful. At least when the USA embarrasses itself on home soil in 2026 the whole country will get to see it. Maybe that will force change at USSF.
The wink emoji is even recognized by aboriginal tribes living in the most inaccessible jungles as the international sign of sarcasm
1. $$$ - payoffs to JK, Arena plus already having Sarachan under payroll made him the cheapest cost-effective option - hiring another coach plus those 3 would've meant basically paying 4 coaches at the same time... 2. they think/thought that this year doesnt really matter 3. they knew they wanted berhalter but he wanted to finish MLS first -with the precourt crisis and all - thought it would be bad optics if he jumped ship before the team's fate was secured. plus, once he had already gone so far into the season - wanted to finish it out first. 4. i also think that the whole sunil shouldnt be the one hiring is a good reason - but in that case he shouldve resigned immediately and let a new coach get hired asap instead of letting it drag out. the whole bureaucracy is tone-deaf.
I’m excited about Berhalter. I don’t care about current trends. I’ve wanted a ball dominant USMNT since I was a kid. Berhalter has done that without elite players and was able to punch up with that style. He’s created teams that play better than their sum with a ball dominant style. Super excited to see it.
