Lampard actually apologized to Holmes last week for not bringing him on against West Brom since he's played so little this season

Nice to see him reward Holmes with a start today & he repaid his faith with what seems to be an excellent performance. He's usually a winger but he played in CM today due to Mount's absence.

“Duane Holmes came in for Mason Mount and deserves huge credit because to fill his boots with the way Mason is playing is tough on one hand but to play the way he did in the second half, I thought he was crucial to the win,” Lampard said.

“He is desperate to play,” Lampard continued. “He has been training really well over the last couple of weeks. He has showed up all the time and he is here for the future of the club. He’s a young player and in the second half we can see what he can do. He has an injection of pace, he can move away from people in midfield which opens up the space. I’m delighted with Duane. He has had to be patient but in the big picture here, he signed in the summer under the radar but I think he is going to be a big player for us.”

Duane has to perform well as he's starting again for injured Mason Mount (on loan from Chelsea), who has been great. Mount is scheduled to be back this week.

First 20 gone and it's been quite a good game actually, despite no clear opportunities for either side. Villa have had a go, they look good, dangerous in attack and then organised when we have the ball. We haven't been playing badly by any means, but it's far from the dominating performance we've been used to at home recently.

For us, Holmes is looking really good again.

2 teams battling out to stay in the top 6. Very entertaining game so far. 25 minutes left, and Holmes' side is down 2-1. Feel like Derby could use him in this game.

 

I don't understand why Holmes doesn't play more - he gets good reviews/produces at a decent rate when he does play....and they've been slipping down the table lately with him on the bench. What's the deal?
