I think he was saying that this will be done in 2018 and they expect to have it finalized at the December BoG meeting. Basically that it should be wrapped and the Crew officially saved by then. It was a little weirdly worded but that was the gist. I may have muddied the waters when recapping too.

Here is the exact wording from the article: "However, it is expected that everything will move forward by year’s end. The move would then be finalized no later than the league’s December board meeting."

Having dueling initiatives on the same topic is always confusing. People tend to vote no on both when that happens. The messaging is much easier when both sides aren't saying "vote for my proposal to stop a stadium giveaway". It also benefits PSV when Epstein and IndyAustin are arguing against each other instead of speaking with one voice.

So does any lease signing delay or ballet initiative in Austin derail the Haslam purchase? It sounds like we are saved and it becomes final in December regardless of what happens in Austin. I just don’t trust PSV enough to actually pull it off. Once we are saved I’ll sit back and watch the buffoonery from a distance.

Thats a hell of a good question. Maybe THE question. You can see it both ways. We just dont know which of them is the way MLS is seeing it.

FWIW, I think MLS would much prefer not to finalize a deal to sell the rights to the Columbus Ohio market to Haslem/Edwards while, technically, PSV holds those rights. That would make for a messy situation, legally. (Depending on what the MLS contracts and super secret bylaws really say)

But once PSV has signed a lease with Austin - whether that lease is ever actually exercised - there can be no question of what Precourts intentions are. He cannot claim that he has been cheated out of something he has wilingly abandoned.

I think the safest thing for us is to hope and pray that PSV and Austin hammer out a lease and sign it by the BoG meeting. Then there is no reason not to cut the deal with Haslem/ Edwards.

And then we can sit back and watch Tony Two Chins screw it up. But it will have nothing to do with us. The day the deal is signed I will cease to have the slightest interest in what Precourt does or doesnt do. Just. Don't. Give. A. Shit.

( And just as an adendum, the post included the tidbit that Dee Haslem traveled to NY with the locals to hammer out the agreement, and I have it on very reliable authority that she is not just the proverbial "Little woman" who is to be patronized because her old man is as rich as Croesus. I'm told that she's a very warm, thoroughly charming and entirely lovely woman and if you lie to her and try and screw her over she will eat you alive, spit you out and do Lord of the Dance on your carcass)

I think Bill is largely right here from the perspective that if the lease isnt signed it could be a messier situation. However, I don't think MLS will let Haslam walk and there is only so long Haslam will wait on this. I mean if Austin implodes Precourt can't come back to Columbus and Haslam won't wait forever so MLS will get the deal done. I think they will have it done by BoG meeting in December regardless of what happens with PSV and Austin. That seems like a logical point for Haslam to want to take over given that they will need to control the team next season.

The reason I think they are stalling till then is to give PSV a shot at getting the lease signed. Once we announce new ownership here and are playing in 2019 then there is ZERO rush for Austin. There are lots of things that PSV agreed to in the Terms Sheet that wasn't well defined, all those glorious community benefits, that they might actually want to be written out. Right now they are keeping as much pressure on Austin as they can in order to get the lease signed.

As @soundermiki pointed out MLS can transfer Precourt's shares, revoke his operator's license, and even kick him out of MLS if they want. So really this isn't about Precourt's control of the Crew its about ensuring MLS gets a foothold in Austin. The Haslam/Edwards deal will get done either way, I think by the BoG meeting.

Side note: rooting for you tonight Miki.

I repped JB's post even though he's rooting for Seattle tonight. Not that I'm rooting against them because I cannot bring myself to root for Portland. :)

Honestly, only watching this to see Drogba lose.

The most surprising thing to me has been the condition of the pitch. Sure it looks a little brown in spots here and there, but I have not witnessed a single player slip or stumble. The same cannot be said for like half the fields in MLS.

Drogba is still playing? MLS spends way too much damn time watering down the pitch.

This game is being played at U Louisville's soccer stadium as opposed to the minor league baseball stadium. Anyone know why they are at the smaller venue?

2nd season with Phoenix Rising. Still the same old smug asshole. If I were this ref, I would have already tossed him for dissent. He had a yellow in the first half and has consistently gotten in the ref's face.

Agreed. We don't need a morning dew when the match is being played.

Slugger field is hosting the annual festival of trees and lights tomorrow through Sunday. I'm guessing today was a setup day.

Well they are going to be all over the field Sunday, but Garber said we have to play through it. The sponsorship money and business metrics are far too great.

Now, the newsfolks down here in the Hinterlands can continue talking about how Lou FC can move into "the MLS" soon after their 11K stadium is built. One in the Courier Journal even talked about getting the Crew to move here if their Austin move failed. (This was pre Saved the Crew.)

    Bourbon dementia.

Edit to add: I watched about 15 minutes of the game. Awful play -- real League 2/Conference level stuff.

LouCity is not MLS level, nor does it purport to be. Having anyone in this state talk about soccer shows how far we've come as a sport. Complaining that the play in USL is poor is akin to lamenting the lack of MLB talent on the Clippers. Some fun facts about LouCity games:
    1. They are played in honest to goodness AAA baseball stadium. Kind of like how the Sporting Wiz used to play. No good sight lines from anywhere save from behind a goal.
    2. They regularly have about 8k in attendance. Not earth shattering, but a heck of a lot more than NYRBII who play in RB Arena and average 800.
    3. Going to a game isn't all about the soccer. It's a social event, to hang out with friends, heckle washed up old players like Didier, and have a good time.

That said, my heart belongs to the Crew. In the past year, many friends asked if I would consider making LouCity my club. Sure, I regularly attend their games, but they will not be my club.

Moonshine down here will cause dementia. Bourbon is the nectar of the gods.

Hot Brown is just an open faced turkey sandwich with Cheez Whiz on top. Pretty pedestrian - boring might be another word - but not, to me at least, offensive.

You'd have to be able to define Burgoo, which seems to mean damned near anything that anyone wants it to mean. Toss a bunch of crap in a pot, whatever meats you have lying around, plus a bunch of nondescript vegetables that are about to go bad, cook the living snot out of it all and serve on a plate along with cornbread.

    You eat the cornbread.
