Imagine if GBS came here next year....was Pipas coach for a season or two before be retires... then Pipa became an assistant coach for him. That would be crazy.

That game was f***ing outstanding. Over the past 2 or 3 weeks....everybody around the league has doubted us, weve played the underdog, and punched everyone of them in their stupid faces. Its delightful.

Wish I would've went to this game, as I'm a couple hours away and with my time, schedule, and finances can probably only make it down for one more game this season. At least now theres a better chance I can possibly attend an eastern conference championship game which is even better! Also if we make to the final and get lucky enough to host (I'm assuming that can only be against RSL)....I'll tell work and my bank account to get fukt and make sure I'm in attendance.

    Glory to Columbus!

I believe the point was that people were lobbying for GC96 to get ahold of Jimmy Haslem and have him start negotiating with Guille about coaching the team. The level of dumb required for that one is self explanatory.

Nothing wrong with fantasizing about who you want to have coach or play for your team. Pretty normal fan stuff. I would have thought you were bright enough to know the difference.

A couple notes on stuff that was said during the broadcast which, being a shut-in, apparently, I was forced to suffer through:

    - The announcers were very complimentary of the Crew fans, and at one point called them "sophisticated" and "knowledgeable", listing a number of things I can't recall but the one that stuck with me was "they know when to ride the ref".

    - The stuff about a Columbus deal having to wait for PSV/Austin is becoming a common theme in those circles, making one suspect that "league sources" are the ones they're getting it from.

But it's beginning to make some sense to me; as obvious as it is to everyone that Tony Two Chins cannot continue to own a team in Columbus, PSV does still legally own the MLS operating rights to the area.

As such, MLS cannot sell the rights to Columbus to anyone else unless and until Precourt agrees.

And Precourt isn't going to agree until he has an iron-clad Austin deal in his pocket. Nobody would.Which may explain why, even at this late date, PSV still has not "announced" that they're moving to Texas since, when they do, they're effectively vacating the market and allowing MLS to peddle it to someone else.

The point is that MLS can't sell Haslem something which legally belongs to someone else. There may be ways they can strong-arm a deal but they'd surely rather not.

Which means that maybe, just maybe, we'd be better off if the petition, Aleshire and all the rest broke down, the lease gets signed and a nice temporary home for the Austin Cumdumpsters is found. This would surely clear the way for a final deal with the new investors.

Psychologically, most of us would like nothing better tan for Two Chins to end up with nothing, but for the sake of getting the owner we want ASAP, maybe we should be rooting for him to get his shit together down in Austin.

Until the Board of Governors Meeting Pre-MLS Cup, right? I'm not well-versed in MLS Law but at that point, there can be a vote to make that happen, correct? My guess is the MLS is giving Precourt until around then to try to figure out Austin. He's on the first legit deadline of this whole saga, I can't wait to see what happens.

I would have been okay coming out of this one with a 0-1 loss under the circumstances of a tired team playing on short rest against the Shield winners.

As others have noted, Gregg gets a lot of credit for setting the team up to both be competitive and get some rest for weary players.

Mensah was a beast, Trapp and Artur outplayed the central pairing for RB and Steffen was a monster. Argudo ran hard and forced the opponent to track him. I'm sure he knew it was unlikely he was going to go 90 minutes. He made use of that putting in a hard 45 that made a difference.

It's great to head on the road with a goal in one hand and shutout in the other. A full week to get players rested and fit for Sunday is perfect. Grab an early goal in Jersey and coast into the conference final.

    Let's Go CREW!!

IIRC, what I said was if possible to let those in power know how much GBS means to the fans and how great a move it'd be if they could land him as a coach.

Nobody said anything about start negotiations.

I actually had this exact thought while sitting in the stadium. At some point in the second half, we worked a couple quick and short passes together to get out of a difficult situation on the sideline, maintained position, and switched the ball to the other side of the field. A large percentage of the stadium recognized how well done the sequence was and gave a loud cheer. Most casual soccer fans, or non soccer fans, would have just seen a couple passes and not thought much of it. I've noticed instances like that, or strong tackles, difficult headers, etc. getting pretty hearty cheers. These are things that casual fans don't pick up, but people who truly understand the game can appreciate.

I have no idea how we compare to other team's fans in that regard, but based on what I've heard on TV our crowd tends to be a bit more knowledgeable than fans of newer teams like ATL.

Reaching out to him or his agent with a brief explanation of what's going on and that we'd love a chance to sit down with him when we are in a position to make an offer. Hint that we'd not be outbid by the likes of Atlanta or LA.

In fact, I'm not entirely sure that the rumors of Atlanta and LA being in the GBS sweepstakes isn't generated by his agent. What better way to ensure that your client gets the most out of his next contract than 2 (let's hope it's 3) teams in the same league all wanting you, including at least 1 that has been willing to have the highest paid coach in the league on their bench.

I'm sure tires are being kicked and agents are posturing. He's the best coach in the America's, speaks passable English, has player and personal connections all over South America and is familiar with this league. He's a David Beckham type signing. It wins on so many levels.

So, it may be necessary to put a hat in the ring before we own the hat, lest the rabbit escape before the trick is performed (there's a nice mixed metaphor for you on this lovely post-win Monday).

Not saying they are doing that, but wouldn't it be nice if they were?

so many thoughts about the game yesterday:

    1. Beautiful weather. Ended up watching the first half of the Brownies game with my friends in the parking lot, and partook in my first LandGrant free beer at the tailgate. I wish I knew LandGrant does this before.

    2. The Game-
-As others have said, Mennsah was amazing. This guy has turned his game around so much from his first few starts.
-Special shoutout to Josh Williams, who may not have done anything too fancy, but he gave Sauro some rest and hopefully allows him to come back for the away game. Same for Argudo and Mullins for giving Santos and Higuain some rest. It wasn't always pretty, but they didn't do anything stupid that caused a goal, and now allows those guys to get a week of rest after only playing a half. It takes a team.
-GGG. I didn't love the first half, but the sub of Higs at half was tremendous. Survive the first half, get the goal in the second, and having Higuian out there must be such a boost of confidence for the guys around him.
-Zack. What else can you say? His head makes a save off of the post (luck favors the skilled), the perfectly timed tackle (who knew this kid had that in his arsenal?) and then the big save at the end, which might turn the series around. I hope casual fans understand how lucky they are to get to watch Zack play now.

    3. Post-game nonsense:
I was disappointed at the attendance numbers. When my friend read off the announced number, I was surprised. I figured we would be in the neighborhood of 15k. Even worse, was everyone all over talking about our turnout. I'm disappointed too, and I'm trying not to believe the narrative that the city as a whole doesn't care, but we've got some work to do. I think many of those issues will be fixed with the new guys in charge, but the snarky comments in-between really sucks to hear, especially since its easy to say things from afar when we've been going through this the past 55ish weeks.

Have you ever known Alejandro to say a negative thing about Columbus fans? IMO one of the better commentators out there. I also loved how he called out P-San for that little doopsy-diddle thing rather than playing to the goal.

What exactly does Precourt "own" that cannot be rescinded by the BoG? Someone said there is no way the league turns down NFL money. I have to think this is a done deal regardless of what Precourt postures and that the line given by Ale and company is pure posturing.

The attendance is what it is. It's disappointing but not surprising. It feels more full than it is because everyone that bought a ticket showed up. So many of the 15k announced attendances have 12k in the seats and 3k not bothering to come. For this one, there aren't any tickets given away, there are no corporate season ticket holders that never come, it's just fans. We know we have 12k hard core fans. It's now up to the new owners to get that to 15k and find 30-40k casuals to fill out our ranks a few times each per year. Then work from there.

I'm not worried about where we stand. Especially not based off of Sunday's game.

I need someone who was at the game to explain that play to me. Because on TV it looked completely impossible. The camera was at midfield, Steffen had no business even being in frame, and then he just suddenly appears out of nowhere to break up the play. Was he already way upfield when the ball in was played? Did he read it that far in advance and come out early? Is he secretly the fastest human being to ever walk the earth?

I'm guessing that, like many modern keepers, he's frequently playing a deep sweeper role. Given how this team aspires to play, that fits well.

Can we chill with the attendance nonsense? This is clearly a problem with MLS scheduling more than anything. Simply look at the attendance of other teams who have had these short sales windows so far this playoffs.

NYCFC only had 15k on Wednesday and 19k last night. They averaged 23k this season.

Dallas barely broke 10k on Wednesday. They averaged 15.5k on the season.

RSL only pulled 14k last night after playing on Thursday. They averaged 18k on the season.

We pulled 12.8k last night after playing on Thursday. We averaged 12k on the season.

This is clearly not a Columbus issue. MLS is setting teams up for failure at the box office with this scheduling.

I was there and I was surprised he got there. My focus wasn't on him either, he does tend to play near the edge of the 18 when the ball is in midfield. So he wasn't starting on his goal line. He reacted immediately and was there in plenty of time to make a solid legal challenge. It was a tremendous play but didn't require super human speed, just great reaction time and a desire to get there first. He's pretty fast though, no question.

I stand above the stage behind the goal, so I have the bird's eye view of what Zack saw.

I think Zack saw the turnover happen and noticed the runner coming in. He was facing towards the ball and probably noticed that the pass was going over everyone's head and was heading towards him. He made his move towards the ball early.

I think he was coming out to try to clear the ball, realized he wasn't going to get there in time, so he decided to go for the tackle. At the very least, he figured trying to force the shot from distance with a guy running onto you creates a better chance at preventing the goal vs letting a guy dribble in 1v1 with him.

I don't disagree with anything you say here. I just hate having to go see everyone around the league continue to make fun of our attendance like we've gone through nothing this season. And I'm just tired of always replying with the same old story to different people each week. Just feels disheartening that we keep getting attacked.

Zach saw the turnover, and the ball coming in. Knowing he’s alone, he sprints to close the angles. He’s one of the biggest and strongest players on the field (always), and was committed to stopping the attack. When the ball fell short of him, he still slid through, and played it away. Not a great clearance but enough to turn the play.
