Nope. We needed a win at home and the boys delivered. We were the better team second half by a mile. Great game by all and that includes Santos, Mensah and Berhalter. I've pummeled all three this year and I am more than delighted to applaud them.
It's simple, you dolts: the game changed when Higuaín came on the field. Eat it, @hangthadj. You'll only get to guest star when Pipa and I stop in Rome to solve the Mystery of the Carbonara Killing.
Great reminder. As tough as it is to put away the critical boner aimed at Higs (and it can be tough), the guy is utterly Crew. As for fantasizing about GBS... I thought we were told a few weeks ago to get back to reality and act like grownups? Also, I will continue to indulge in the fantasy no matter how childish.
We can all agree Zack's save at the end was magical. But this team didn't wake up and start playing the moment Pipa stepped on the field. The turning point was a 35-40 yard run and tackle by ZACK #$@&ING STEFFEN to prevent a 1v1 situation. The crowd came alive, the team came alive, Milton-Pipa-HypeTrain 1-0
Funny encounter at the game tonight. We were eating at one of the tables on the plaza. Two people joined us, and a third walked up and asked to join us. He said he was from out of town (eventually "from Chicago"), and wanted to know more about the "Save the Crew" situation. He had an MLS hat (generic), and an Audi jacket. I figured a league guy checking things out. We (adult sons and I) told him we thought things would work out with new ownership, and the ways that Prec**t had basically let things go (intentionally tanking the team). Hell, the guy could have been Greeley himself. I told him Lamar had worked hard to get us going, that Clark seemed to just want out, and that frat tony had dumped promotions and sponsors with abandon. I even threw in the story of the billboard company that created new playoff signs, using new dates and two year old artwork, when HWMNBN wouldn't get new ones made. It was a cordial discussion. I also told him our way of dealing with this year, we went to games, but haven't bought merch. We won't until ownership changes.
Took the boy to his first Browns game. Listened to the 2nd half stream on CD 102.5 while driving back to Cbus. (Neil and Dwight are SO much better on radio only. Less bizarre remarks and references. The listener can tell what’s happening on the field; no “dead air.” Neil is very good at p-b-p for rapid-fire action, like the flurry of activity as we were attacking at the end of the second half. But I digress...) Nearly sideswiped someone when we scored. Good to get a goal and shut out the Pink Cows in their road game. Would really have been nice to pick up a second goal. We really should push for at least one goal in NY. Bad things seem to happen when we bunker. Looking forward to watching the second half on DVR.
So.. did Santos win an Emmy or an Oscar? Not sure if my daughter could have smiled any wider or longer than when she saw your son today.
Because they weren't doing a TV broadcast. CD 102.5 just simulcasts the Spectrum/Sinclair audio. This is another thing which needs fixing. Put Dwight on radio with Dr. Jay or Brian Maisonneuve or whoever. Put Neil on TV with whoever else and at least make an effort to send them to nearby away games, if not all games.
This is Pipa's team. They play at a different level with him patrolling the midfield. He can singlehandedly unlock a defense and commands central defending which frees up the wingers. You could see Afful and Valenzuela hit a new gear when he came in. Brilliant game plan by Berhalter to deal with the fatigue. He needed to have some bench guys come in and eat minutes, and they executed that perfectly in the first half. Despite the short turnaround, Columbus was noticeably the fresher and better conditioned team as the game wore on. Mensah and Williams were both staunch and held the line beautifully. They took BWP out of the game to the point he was visibly frustrated in the second half. Steffen stood on his head again. That 40 yard sprint for a sliding clearance was every bit as good as the late diving save. My friend said it best: "Games like this make you appreciate how hard it is to play against Columbus."
I talked with him at the tailgate. Like a lot of the people I talked to I’m not sure I could properly I D them on a second encounter. I was kind of putting it out there to see if anybody could confirm.
I am aware of this. I was alluding to how highly annoying it is (when simulcasted) to listen to dead air. And not know for TWENTY MINUTES what the score is. Completely agree. Do away with the simulcasts right quick. (IIRC, Dwight was on the radio and Neil was on TV?)
