If I remember right, there were two anti-DC banners at that home game. “ELBOWS DOWN, JAIME” (Moreno known for throwing elbows) and “THANKS AGOOS—JAMAICA” (Made a horrible back pass intercepted by Deion Burton who scored from it; USA tied Jamaica 1-1 in a WCQ at RFK. [I was at that game!!] Reggae Boyz went on to qualify for their first WC Finals.)
That "report" is 100% wrong. We played DC 3 years in a row: '97, '98, & '99. All in the ECF. We got closer each year. '97: 2-3, 0-1 '98: 0-2, 4-2, 0-3 '99: 1-2, 5-1, 0-4 Just wiki it.
I too was at the USA/Jamaica match in DC. Remember the Agoos backpass vividly. Plus all the Diaz Arce talk about the incident.
Well, I would expect the following, though the fact I am unsure about 1 CB starter & 1 winger with everyone healthy says a lot. ----------------Steffen-------------- Afful--Mensah--Sauro--Valenzuela ----------Trapp-----Artur-------- Hansen-------Pipa-----Meram ----------------Zardes------------- Bench: Kempin; Jimenez, Williams; Clark, Santos; Mullins + 1
Let us proclaim our shared faith. We hate Chicago We hate the Red Bulls, too We hate DC United but Columbus we love you Columbus, Columbus. Columbus we love you.
You're going to replace a twenty year rivalry with some glorified USL squad that plays in a college football stadium full of promotional giveaway winners? Suit yourself.
I’ve never, not ONCE, thought of the RedStarMetroBulls as a rivalry, beyond the point that they were in the same conference. Obviously, we have to wait and see how things go for Cincinnati on the field, but I can’t think of a better natural rival then a team in state two hours away. It might take a little time depending on how quickly they get their crap together, but it’s going to happen.
I am with you except for the NY/NJ Metrostars. I LOVE them. We beat them in the Cup Final & in the POs on our finals run. DC and Chicago for certain. After that? Meh. New England has denied us in the POs twice (2002 ECF + beat the 2004 Shield winners) but I do not hate them. Ditto TFC last year (cannot stand Bradley). Portland? Seattle? Colorado a couple times in the POs. RSL for 2009? I guess it will be FCC/Austin.
If picking the Crew to beat the Scum in a playoff game is wrong, I don't want to be right. So help me Grouchy!
Well you did: Single-handedly got rid of the Nazi Ref chant and Influence the move to 101. I would have bought that you wrote the song. Preach it, Father Zip.
What makes a rivalry is that both sides feel it. Chicago, NY, and Toronto don't view use as rivals. I'm sure DC supporters don't either. So, how are those rivalries?
It makes me so happy that Crew is playing the scum. League gave us a horseshit date before their stadium was done because they're a bunch of prongs. Team is saved...Crew gets a road game, so now we get to waltz into their $500M falling apart erector set with awesome sun glare and take this crap to penalties so Steffen can stop Rooney in PKs. Oh it's going to be so awesome to beat the scum in the playoffs. And the a-holes at the league couldn't stop us from ruining their season.
How can you not hate Cinncinati. It is a requirement to be a self important little bitch to live there. It might have the ugliest downtown of any city in America besides Detriot. Culturally it is a combination of the worst aspects of Southern and Midwestern culture. If that is not enough I have one word Kroger.
