Its going to suck when Dzekos retires. There no way we can find someone with his composure, finishing , and build up play. i bet if Bajic or Kodro was in his position today for those 2 goals they would of f***** it up.

True but that is also the case for most other countries, such players are not a dime a dozen but there is really nothing on the horizon in terms of youth ranks that could provide a potential replacement.

Pjanic has played his best NT game today for as far back as I can remember and I'm really looking forward to seeing how we integrate Gojak to play alongside Pjanic in the middle.

Visca is a very limited player who relies on pace and service in order to be most effective as he really has no technical ability to take on players 1-1 and create good service. Duljevic, on the other flank, is much better in that regard and will be much more impactful for us moving forward.

Very good game by Saric as well today who was very active and aggressive.

Sunjic has improved his game considerably from a few years ago as he is noticeably much more confident on the ball, even using a few dekes here and there to move the ball out of danger. I was really impressed with his game today.

Watching the extended highlights, NI could have won this game. Hope Robert has a plan going forward, because we won’t be getting all these “lucky” breaks against any decent squads.

Why do people keep putting our success down to luck? We're conceding 1 goal every 300 minutes (3.33 games) on average after playing teams like Senegal, South Korea, Bulgaria, USA, Mexico, Austria, Turkey, and NI. These aren't elite teams, but 95% of international football is filled with teams of that caliber or worse and we've been getting the results against all of them.

We only concede a handful of scoring chances per game too and they're mostly from set pieces and crosses, no one has played right through us like we saw under Pape or Mesa previously. And this is with Civic playing at LB rather than Kolasinac, I'm sure this looks even better once Seo is back. We do take some chances with the way we play, but we have a very good shot stopper in goal so it's something I think we want to do. Sehic has stepped up to the plate every time in any case and that's why he's the #1 and will remain as such as long as he keeps producing.

Anyways, good performance, much better than in Belfast although we got away with a couple of chances they had. Dzeko was in brilliant form in front of goal, shame he got that great goal ruled out for an incorrect offside. Pjanic looked lively once again, another solid game from him. Sunjic and Saric very good also, really deserve their place in the team with the way they've played. Civic was pretty good too, Visca worked hard and looked decent, and Sehic was assured. Everyone else was kinda eh but the collective performance was good so it helped everyone out as a whole.

8 games without a loss now, just 1 away from tying a NT record from Pape's 2012-13 run although we've definitely played better opponents this time around and defended much better. League A promotion almost sealed and a Pot 2 spot for Euro qualifying wrapped up. Hopefully a top 30 FIFA ranking is on the horizon too. Excited to see what's next for this team, I haven't looked forward to watching the NT this much since early 2013. So happy.

Great summary. Prosinečki has helped rejuvenate my euphoria for the NT haha.

This is the best we have ever played for as long I have watched the repka. We have a good balance between attack and defense, with Bešić and sarić as workhorses giving Pjanić more of a license to focis on his creative play.

Duljević and Višća are the most modern pair of wingers we have had in a while, although I’d love to see Hajrović get a chance at RW soon. Duljević should be in a top 5 league soon imo.

We have 3-4 reliable CBs, Zuka/Šunjić have been good together. Bičo will also be healthy soon providing depth at the position. Vranješ helps as a CB/RB starter or depth player. LB is definitely a problem, Kola is miles ahead of Nastić and Ćivić, and Kola is injury prone.

Begović and Šehić provide a two starting level keepers for us which is great.

My favorite part about Robi is that he looks more at the job a player can do than he does at what club/league he plays for. He doesn't care that Duljevic and Saric play in the 2. BuLi and Korea respectively, he sees players that can bring something to the table that others can't that will help execute his game plan more effectively. A tireless, two-way workhorse CM and a winger who can unlock defenses with his dribbling. They were never the media or fans' first choices to replace Lulic and Medunjanin, but Robi gave them a chance based on their profile and qualities and they slot in perfectly in his system. Proves that football isn't about playing your 11 biggest names which is what his predecessors ALWAYS did.

I actually think Civic and Nastic are serviceable backups. The former struggles physically and isn't good going forward, but he can hold his own defensively and can carry the ball out of the back well so he can be useful. He played well in the last two home games and in Korea. Nastic was solid in Turkey too, looked aggressive. The main issue is these guys not playing enough for their clubs, but they are good backups to have. Still need Kolasinac at 100% to be at our best though.

We're commenting on the amount of luck as of recent - not that it's the only direct correlation to W/L.

Northern Ireland could have won the first game had they been slightly better at finishing.

Good for the team we're winning - curious to see how we do in later stages which is indicative of growth / maturity / leadership / coaching.

I count 4 good chances for NI in these highlights. The goal, the two early in the 2nd half, and the one in the 85th minute. 3 of these came from set pieces/crosses where really anything can happen and the latter one was at 2-0 up where we fell asleep. I think their performance here is a bit overrated, their pressure was great but they didn't really create much to trouble us as some make it out.

Also, we're not really great against British opposition for whatever reason and Belfast is a tough place to play so those factors didn't help, but what doesn't get enough credit is the way we adjusted our tactics to cope with their pressure and still create chances on the counter. We had much less chances and still created just as many dangerous chances as they did. We realized playing out of the back wasn't going to work, changed our approach, and found success. And this in our first competitive game with Robi too. Obviously we weren't going to be perfect on Day 1 against a NI team that's been settled and together for years.

So yes there's an element of luck involved, as there always will be no matter how you set up, but the coaching and the team play deserves more credit too. I think we'll be just fine against stronger opposition as long as we continue on this path we're on.

They should have been awarded a penalty early first half. Who knows what the game would have been as it was >5 minutes in.

Watched the game, had we played anyone else we would have been exposed in the defensive confusion.

Had we played anyone else assumes that just about anyone else would have put us under the pressure that NI did which is unlikely, at least not with that much physicality and aggressiveness. That was the only one of the 10 games under Robi where we suffered that much pressure and we still won. Not too shabby.

Every team we've played so far this year sans Montenegro is ranked in the top 40 and they've all combined for just 3 goals against us, 2 from corners. Can't just put all that down to luck or playing against bad teams because neither is true.

But sure let's see how we roll on from here before giving a proper judgment. It's still a work in progress in its early days after all. I for one rate our chances to qualify for EURO 2020 quite well and believe we'll only get stronger if guys like Bicakcic, Kolasinac, Hajrovic, Gojak, and Djuric enter the fold soon.

Great result. Although Prosinečki isn’t a perfect manager, he’s building a solid team here. 3 wins and 1 draw, with a 5:1 goal for/against total. To be fair, we probably should have conceded one or two more goals but we should have one more goal in favor of us, as well (Džeko incorrectly ruled offside).

Not only will we be competing with Europe’s elite in the next Nations League, but finishing with 10 points secured us 2nd Pot for the Euro qualifying draw.

The team has shown promise under Prosinečki, but there are a few areas of improvement for the squad imo. I’m itching to see Kolašinac return, who may be pur third or fourth best player.

I also would also like to see either Krunić (in good form for Empoli this season) or Gojak (high potential, good form for Dinamo Zagreb) replace Sarić in the starting lineup. I can appreciate Sarić providing a workhorse in the team, but at the end of the day, I don’t think he’s good enough to start. He made a few bad plays against Austria (bad turnover in dangerous area, held on to ball too long and cost a potential good chance, etc.).

Perhaps my biggest complaint is that there is no reason for Hajrović to not make the squad, at least. For one, I think he has always been good for the national team. He always looks to attack and attempts to be creative. Secondly, he is much better than Kodro and Bajić. I think he’s even better than Višća, although either would be a good super sub.

Overall, I’m really happy with the direction of the NT. No longer do we have a porous defense, requiring our attack to score 2-3 goals a game to have a chance of winning. I also like having some you g talent integrated into the squad with Gojak, Demirović, Milošević, etc. Can’t wait for the Euro qualifying draw on December 2.

Last year, we conceded 3 goals in 11 minutes against Cyprus. Prior to yesterday's game, we conceded 3 goals in 11 games this year, and every team we played this year was better and ranked much higher than Cyprus are. That says it all about the transformation our defense has had under Prosinecki with pretty much the same group of players.

That was a good performance away to Austria, we should have won with the chances we had. All they really created over two games was that double chance at the start of the 2nd half here and given the talent they have going forward, we did really well against them.

As for the Spain game, I thought we did well given all our absentees. We didn't create much but difficult to do so without Pjanic and with Krunic and Cimirot playing in unfamiliar wide roles. We struggled a lot in the first 15 and last 20 minutes, but aside from that we held our own. Didn't really concede many clear efforts either which is decent given the quality they possess. Not much to take out of this otherwise as we were at 50% strength but we fared well, better than Croatia did there. :p

I don't understand or agree this idea that we've had a lot of luck, mainly because people focus on the luck we had and not enough on the luck we didn't have. Dzeko's non-offside goal against NI, Duljevic hitting the post at 2-0 in Belfast, Dzeko missing an open goal against Austria at home, all the missed chances in Vienna, another wrong offside call on Thursday. We've had about as much against us as we've had for us so I'd say our luck has balanced out tbh.

Saric is an important player in Robi's system, not for what he does on the ball but for what he does off it which is more important given that you play majority of games without it than with it. He's offered more stability defensively so far than any of those guys you named and he's earned his place in the XI. I wouldn't touch him there when our system is working right now and we don't really have someone of his profile with higher quality to replace him anyways.

I agree that Hajrovic should be in the squad at least, but it's up to him to be more consistent too. This is his best season in 4 years and even then that's mainly because of 3 or 4 very good games and not a consistent level. Says a lot about his form since 2014. If he can play well on a weekly basis, he'll be in the team but he hasn't proven that yet. Prosinecki knows what he's doing.

I do think Koljic or Prevljak could be in for Kodro though, can't see how he offers more than either of them at this point but we'll see how things change until spring when the next break comes around.

Agree on your last point and I'm also looking forward to the draw. We're only 2 games away from the Euros anyways at this point with a guaranteed playoff spot, but hopefully we make it directly and avoid that whole process this time around.
