BOOM, Hat Trick Rick, terrorizing the US boards in the name of Peruvian pride. The Stugotz is strong in you, my friend. May you respectably draw many amistosos.

I like what I saw for the most part other than the Peru goal due to the defense going to sleep.

I always love when the USA plays in Hartford. Usually gets good results there.

Also as a Colombian-American I am proud to say that two teenage stars were born last night. Cucho Hernandez for Colombia is going to be a star and Sargent is also going to be fantastic.
Can't wait to see them both develop and get playing time for their respective National teams.

He provides zero going forward, zero. Rarely gets forward for Newcastle ..and same with Sund. It's just not his game, isn't asked to, and doesn't have the ball skills to do so.

Defensively he has speed to recover, he's gotten much better in his one on one defending, and usually just shadows his guy forcing him to pass it off. Thats fine and all. But he doesn't get stuck in, no crunching tackles, isn't a physical presence. He's passive in closing down the cross, and ball watches a bit too much.

That play yesterday is something we've seen a bit the past year.

If he offered something going forward I would excuse the defensive liabilities.

Hi my name is Matt Doyle, I'm the soccer savant for the US soccer program. I see Jozy as the starting forward when he returns to health. The US really needs him.

I just don't understand how we can't make it out of qualifying!!!

As many have previously stated; CP is the ONLY player from the last world cup cycle that should ever see a US camp again. I'm perfectly fine living with the growing pains, as the teenagers develop. If you think we need veteran leadership, please put the tape in of last nights game, when those veterans were subbed in.

I don't think we need such extremism. Brooks and FabJo are excellent options, even if FabJo isn't likely to be healthy enough to play in two more years. Jozy has a place for a couple years, there isn't another with his skillset. Miazga, Lleget, Zardes, and Morris are all worth having in the pool and are young enough to have upside still. I think everyone is agreed the youth need to be given the reigns, but let's not get carried away for the sake of some conceptual revenge on the group that let us down last time.

Yes, it is extreme, but it makes a point.

What will be reality as far as USSF is concerned...last night's starters are auditioning for 2026! We don't want to rush the youngsters. Besides, most of the players from the last campaign are still available.

I refer you either to your own memory or to youtube. I certainly didn't expect that there was no one who was down on Jozy or any other one of those names when I made my post, so I provided several names. I think the point holds unless you disagree on all of them.

Just Jozy. I'm not sure what he brings anymore. Watching Sargent come back to help with defense last night made me not want to see Jozy even more. The difference in effort was clear.

    So Cal
You are absolutely right...it does make a point. So does cutting off your nose...

The reality is that we need to audition for 2022 not 2026 and we need to remember that there are important games between 2019 and 2022.

Well, Jozy is a tank. Some opponents can be pushed around in the middle, and Jozy has good one-touch flick-ons in addition. For some opponents I think Jozy might be the answer. When I say he has a place for a couple years I do not mean he is a lock starter or anything. I mean he remains a tool in the toolbox and throwing him out of the pool just so we can say "we threw everyone but CP out" is not how I personally feel we move forward. We move forward by winning. What we want to move away from is losing. We aren't trying to leave a player or a system.

Fair enough. I see such a difference in effort from club to country from Jozy. Maybe not being a lock starter will fire him up a bit.

$UMNT Head Coach: Yedlin, gangbusters out there! worked your way through 3 teams. Championship. EPL. Tough road. Exactly what the US needs. Resilience. Tenacity. Top shelf football.
    Yedlin: Thanks coach!
$UMNT: That's why I think you are the best person to help our new Captain! He's young, never amounted to much, way too slow to play at the top leagues where you are. Never won anything. No international experience. Never played in a world cup. Same age as you. I know you'll make him a great captain.
    Yedlin: Um, sure coach....

Sure and if you could motivate him with something other than a pitcher of beer, a vodka jelly donut and a jar of vienna wieners, then he'd be world class.

Given his talent and ability, he should be the best player in Cacacaf. He's that good. Unfortunately, he's just not that good.

Pretty harsh. Not really supported by the data I am aware of. Yes, he has had a lot of injuries, and when you come back from injuries you will not be at mid-season fitness. I have felt more often that Jozy was carrying too much upper-body muscle when he was fit. When you are a bulky human, you aren't going to be a marathon runner.

The problem with no playing certain guys is you then have to play someone else.

I admit to only half watching, but Acosta under or over hit about 75% of his passes maybe?

    Weah is gonna be awesome.

    Defense was... erratic.

We give away so many easy passes in the middle of the field, both v C'bia and Peru. Just over and over again. By my limited understanding of the game, giving the ball to the other team in the middle of the field while you are transitioning to offense is bad.

Guzan kinda looked like the man out there.

Peru started with 6 nonstarters to be more precise.

I don't think USA is the better team, maybe years past but not now. We defended against France as our lives depended on and in a friendly. Peru played France toe-to-toe for a win in a WC game. That alone should tell you where both programs are at time. Now, in 12 months we may pass you once our youngers get better.

In all honesty, we don't have an "A" team. The old "A" team is mostly gone and the young ones will have to become the new "A" when we start to play games that count.

Jozy is so predictable, I even know what he is going to do before he does it.

It's funny you are right but ur reasoning is all off.

No team has a locked in starting lineup unless you are France. So the whole missing x starters...it just isn't the whole story.

Peru is better because they had more then 65% poss and didn't have players they usually rely on to score. On top of th hat th he us played with a kid who tried to cross from the left with his right foot like it was an as amateur tryout.

Easy to say. Yeah, he isn't the most unpredictable when he takes multiple touches. He has some one-touch redirections that are very good. I am not saying Jozy is awesome, I am saying that, in the style he plays, he is the best in our pool. I wish it wasn't true, but not as a slight to Jozy, just that "even better" is... better. We need more talent. We need a variety of talents. I think that within two years there will be no formation or opponent for which Jozy is the right answer, but I don't think it is true now. And if Sargent has played an ineffective 75, which will happen some days, would I like 15 minutes of Jozy to change it up? Right now, yes I would.
