US Soccer is run by idiots. The rest of Concacaf already knows this and will take full advantage of it when World Cup qualifying for 2022 starts.
You say all of this like we didn't start 3 teenagers in attack and hand multiple players their debut, a few along the backline. It was no where close to our full strength, either. How many teenagers/debutants did you guys have on the field today?
Nothing all that bold about it. I warned that Yedlin should not be penned into the 2022 starting lineup a long while back.
You've been on the midfield a lot. Problem is that on tv you see the midfielder but you don't see what he is looking at. He needs partners - not just upfield but in all directions.
The announcers commented that your starting outfield players had something like 300 caps between them. Our entire starting outfield had 46. Our starting striker plays for a U-23 team in the German 4th division. Our starting RW can't make the bench at his club team. Our starting LW and several others were appearing in their first ever USMNT games. In short, stop acting like Peru was fielding a team of waterboys and the US was fielding a knockout-stages World Cup team. You literally had multiple times more experience on the field. (And we were without Pulisic, McKennie, Adams, Brooks, Miazga, Steffen, etc., so stop acting like Peru was the only team missing players.)
LOl dude I didnt even mention the back up players . Araujo , benavente , corzo and abram got injured for these friendlies , so they had to call the C guys to this game I know the US has a deeper pool . Also you want to talk about chemistry. This is the first time a lot of these guys are playing together. So lets say this was peru b vs usa b. Well we dominated the whole game , the only chances USA had were on counter attacks or when we missed a pass. And usually the missed pass was not a result of the USA putting pressure on us , it was just sloppy passing by us I can see this may be a new team and they have young guys , but the USA let us play all over with them . I can count with one hand the times we lost the ball in the middle because of the USA pressure. Just keep this in mind , this is the first time our coach decides to chance the whole starting line up and try new players, I do not recall him doing that . Maybe when his first 3 games , but never the whole team as far as I can remember. In the other hand the USA is very used to different line ups , and that is a fact. You guys always complaint about that . Now , somehow , this is news to you guys
that doesn't mean anything , Peruvian guys can have many caps individually , but most of them never played together. Today we didnt see any stars on the field, so what counts is what they did as a team. And for a team that hasnt played together , they dominated the whole game , which is surprising to me as I always thought the USA was a better team Also , the USA is very notorious for changing their line up every game , so its not like it is the first time they have done this. I used to follow the usa and I know everyone here complaints how much their line up changes. So no excuses there
We don't even have an A-team at this point, so it's hard to say whether the team out there was half A-team or just B-team. The big diff is that our guys who have not been A-teamers past cycle are mostly young guys, with a lot of upside. The Peruvian B-teamers that played today are older guys who basically dropped to the B-team after not being good enough a couple of years ago. They had guys like Callens (26), Loyola (23), Tapia (23), Peña (23), Polo (24), Madrid (21), Aquino (23). We had guys like Weah (18), Sargent (18), Amon (19), Marky (23), Cannon (20), CCV (20), Robinson (21). So our young guys were younger than theirs.
dude 3 guys made their first start ever for USA...a bunch of players are playing reserves for their clubs etc....this was an EXPERIMENTAL lineup... if the US had all of their players available...their first choice...i think they would beat peru 8 out of 10 times
I actually thought both teams looked bad in the first half but I knew before the game kicked off that we would have a possession problem which I will not go into - it just was not going to be possible to string passes together with that selection's inexperience and passing ability. Too bad because when they got their act together after intermission we at least had a real game. Then the bizarre substitutions came.
Considering where the US team is coming from right now (old and just missed a wc), that's what is needed. Virtually the whole team needs to be replaced in over approximately one year before competitive games begin again. The lack of chemistry is just something that we'll have to put up with while we trial players and until the new coach comes in with (hopefully) an overall blueprint on how the team will play.
I never thought I'd say this this early in his career, but Yedlin has been playing like he's switched off. Cannon looked good tonight, and with how much better Cannon has been getting all season, Yedlin had better be looking over his shoulder.
Didn't exactly dominate that free kick huh? I'm impressed you can count on one hand, that must be difficult. You should be thankful the US coach is an idiot who thought it was time to bring on the washed up vets at the end.
If we had a full US team on the field today, we would have put 8-0 on this poor Peru team. This Peru team presented no threat.
Yedlin 2014 was hungry. This recent Yedlin I see is half hearted. Maybe when guys like Pulisic and Weston comes back, he might feel a need to step up his game. Right now, it feels like every guys is half assing around, except for the young kids.
Peru passed the ball around, but possession without penetration is just masturbation, and Peru played with themselves all night.
But it takes time and a lot of games to build chemistry. It is about time to start putting together the squad that will be in the next tournament.
I hope so. When we were having our "who do we build around" discussions after missing the WC, he was one of the first ones on everyone's list. Here recently though I think a lot of questions are being asked of him. No one's safe.
yea with the same team that went to the world cup and beat all those crappy central american teams right? LOL
yea a free kick goal from a counter attack ..wow ... Any crappy team can score from a free kick , thats the only way yea I can count with one hand , can you?
Frankly, if any player needs an "actual manager" to know that he is under scrutiny, than maybe they aren't intelligent enough and or are missing something (competitive drive?) that will make them an effective player for the USMNT. Whoever is going to be taking the job will surely be watching this game AND will have lots of video of these games to use these games for evaluating/screening players. Sure....he won't see them in person at training sessions and he won't have any direct contact but any manager will use all of the tools at his disposal to evaluate potential players.
true, but without a manager that is hard to do. No matter how much we wish it, it aint going to happen with an interim manager. Fortunately, the only tournament that really matters is the wc and the first rounds of qualifying "should" be relatively easy for us. A competent manager should be able to use the time and the gold cup to devleop enough chemistry and to finalize the team that will begin qualification. Once that team is established, it will likely (hopefully) change quite drastically as young players develop. As you said, we definitely need stability and chemistry but at this point I'm not worried that they are missing. right now, I would be prioritizing two things: 1. Who is in the top 23 now? 2. Who is just outside of the top 23 but primarily due to lack of maturity? In other words, who do I expect to be in the team in 1-3 years time? (A player that is 25 on the depth chart and 26 years old probably isn't going to help us much but a player that is 17-19 yrs old and 30-35th, or even lower, on the depth chart may be an impact player in 3 years time.)
