I liked this guys physical tools and skills, though he was super raw when we saw him for the USA. If he is playing well, let's give him a chance!
i wasn't a fan of alvarado under JK....but he was young and it was a while ago now....it would be foolish to hold his past against him i.e. USMNT....especially at a position like CB that usually takes seasoning.

This is a bit long with lots of passing around the back, but number of solid defensive plays sprinkled in. Solid in the air, good anticipation, and great 1v1 defending... tackles, blocked shots, etc. I've seen enough to want him to get another look with the national team. It is hard to tell how his play in liga mx will translate, but he has the tools and looks to matured a lot.
This article says he's pretty damn fast: https://us.as.com/us/2018/10/11/futbol/1539261745_676973.html?id_externo_rsoc=CM_US_TW A Mexican-American defender, who was to reach the MLS earlier this year, could be the player with the second highest speed on the planet today. At least this is indicated by the data collected by the departments of Sport Science, through the Geo-positioning (GPS) devices. This is Ventura Alvarado Aispuro, defender of the record of Necaxa in Liga MX and who was part of the United States national team in the 2015 Gold Cup. The southpaw, registered on September 29, a speed of 36.2 kilometers per hour in a sprint during the match that his team lost (0-1) at home to Santos Laguna. The data was compiled by the firm ChryronHego , through its program called 'TRACAB', a source of base statistics companies like Opta. When comparing the 36.2 kilometers per hour registered by Alvarado, the one born in Phoenix (Arizona), is located only behind Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) , who has a record of 36.9 kilometers per hour.

Weeks 13 and 14... The first video is interesting as he played as a left back and got forward much more.
@ArsenalMetro & @LouisZ ... your views on VA in the other thread seem to be based on his play over 3 years ago when he was 22/23 and had limited experience. He has improved since then and still has the same strengths that make him an intriguing option. The highlights above are from the first 12 games of this season....
So Ventura Alvarado’s last cap for the USMNT was Oct. 13, 2015. Since then, he’s won a CONCACAF Champions’ League trophy and a Copa MX title, played in 34 regular season games, 4 playoff games, 12 Copa MX games (including a final), 2 CONCACAF Champions League games (including a final), 4 games in the Club World Cup and 1 in the Mexican Super Cup, which his team won. That’s 57 games. Anyone wanna see if he’s gotten any better the past three years and might be able to help the USMNT? Just a reminder, he's 26 and will be 30 at the 2022 World Cup.
Count me in. Given our needs at left back, I think he would be a good guy to compete with Robinson or play as LCB in 3 man back line. I think he would complement Brooks and Miazga very well and allow Robinson to focus more on getting forward as a wing back.

I mean, considering that recent stat I saw about his elite pace...seems he might be a perfect counterfoil to the more lumbering Brooks/Miazga types....either one of Brooks/Miazga might be better off with a pacier, athletic partner.
kinda, i guess...but I wouldnt use gonzo/besler as the archetype. i think MM/Brooks are very similar and offer a lot of the same strengths/weaknessess and either one would be well-matched with a fast, athletic, cerebral type - not sure if that's alvarado - but maybe.
