The classes of the league are Santos (10W-1D-0L in group B) and Corinthians (9-2-0 in group A). The next two teams in each group are Iranduba and Kinderman in group A and Flamengo and Rio Preto in group B. Surprising, fourth place in each group is currently held by a team that hasn't earned a real name for themselves yet - Sport Recife in A and Ponte Preta in B - though Ferroviaria and Sao Jose are close behind Recife in A. We missed this back in June, but the 2018 CLF hosts have been chosen. Three cities, all in Brazil, bid for the tournament, and the bid coming from Manaus (Iranduba) won. Interestingly, Corinthians was one of the other three bids, but didn't get picked. I personally would have much preferred they get in, both because they were CLF17 co-champions with Audax and because they're doing so well in the league right now. Not that Iranduba are a slouch right now, by any means, but still. The tournament will be held in November. Man, I don't like that image... the way it's made, it look like Santos is the seeded team in group B instead of Colo-Colo. Also makes Cerro Porteno look like a Pot3 team instead of a Pot2 team. I really hope they update the format at some point, because (historically speaking) there's often a strong team eliminated because the best-runner-up thing favors groups with weaker Pot1 seeds as those or more likely to have the 2nd-place team on 7pts. This year, it's already looking like group A is the group of life with a (relatively) weak Audax as the top seed, meaning I'm expecting three of {Santos, Colo-Colo, UAIU, Cerro Porteno, Iranduba} to be going home when a perfect draw would see just one of those five not make the semis....

A spate of draws in group C and a relative lack of scoring in group A has meant that both Santos and Colo-Colo come out of group B into the semis, Colo-Colo doing so despite "only" getting 6pts. Thus, only two of the five "strong" teams I named earlier went home - because the three of them that were packed into group C all drew each other! And IDK WTH happened to Cerro Porteno in their last match to get embarrassed by Flor de Patria.
Santos beat Colo-Colo by 3 goals again (this time 3-0 instead of 4-1) in the first semifinal - and then every single match after that was 1-1! Iranduba only scored 1 of their first 4 PKs against Atletico Huila, but made up for it when Colo-Colo scored 0 of their first 4 PKs in the third-place match. (Ouch!!!) Atletico Huila then prevailed over Santos in the final's PKSO, leaving the Brazilian side technically undefeated but still runners-up as Huila become the first Colombian side to win the competition. Their new pro league is apparently paying off! Huila becomes the 3rd team to qualify for the 2019 CLF, after the 2018 domestic-season winners from BRA (Corinthians) and PAR (Cerro Porteno).

It goes both ways: Conmebol will not license any club for male int'l competitions if it lacks a female team. So yes, a club must support female squad expenses in order to generate business with its male squad. Similar to Title IX, for US college sports. For Conmebol purposes, club Atletico Huila is one commercial entity, it is not divided into male and female portions. Conmebol pays tournament prizes to national FAs, which then pay to clubs; players receive whichever prize % was agreed with clubs. Both male and female athletes can get swindled, like in other world regions. In Atletico Huila's case, its female squad pre-agreed that each winning player would receive $1k from the Conmebol prize (~$18k out of $55k paid by Conmebol). Captain Yoreli Rincon misrepresented the prize situation, although unfair, to media in Brazil. In response, the club decided to pay $2k per female player before its champions landed on Colombia. The tournament was played (again) in Brazil. Lack of sponsorship is a fundamental problem here. Conmebol continues to subsidize Brazilian partners by hosting its top female club tournament in Brazil (7 out of 10 Libertadores editions), and now broadcasts games via Facebook. Maybe things will improve, now that Conmebol forces clubs to support a female squad (not sure under what standards). Women's Libertadores matches were hardly televised live, too.
