Colombia: The WNT is currently in the Central America & Caribbean Games tournament (los Centroamericanos) with a 16-player squad. This video explains who comes from which club, with clips from the Liga Femenina - the champs Huila sent six players:

Brazil: Brasileirão: Group A is led by Corinthians, ahead of Iranduba. Some highlights and raucous celebrations

    Corinthians v Iranduba, 1 Jun - youtube.com/watch?v=S-xI_lNpDAM

and the return fixture, 5 July - youtube.com/watch?v=sQzA0TeOESg

In Group B, leaders Santos started the season with a shocking 6-0 win over Flamengo, who are now in 2nd place:
    - youtube.com/watch?v=XFlXa77aMfc (25 Apr)

The divisions have 5 weeks to go, and then the playoff rounds will start.

The Brasileirão league really moves around the calendar - in 2017 the champions were decided in July, and before that, the previous finals were played in May 2016 and December 2015. Must be because of the World Cup and this year's Copa América, unless there were also some other factors?
(Edit: Ah yes, the 2016 Olympics, as Siberian Thunder mentioned at the time.)

    *blows dust off thread*

Brazil - with the exception of two teams in group B on 10 games, everyone has played 11 now. The classes of the league are Santos (10W-1D-0L in group B) and Corinthians (9-2-0 in group A). The next two teams in each group are Iranduba and Kinderman in group A and Flamengo and Rio Preto in group B. Surprising, fourth place in each group is currently held by a team that hasn't earned a real name for themselves yet - Sport Recife in A and Ponte Preta in B - though Ferroviaria and Sao Jose are close behind Recife in A.

Chile - The North region has 4 games per team played thus far, and the ladder is a perfect 3pt ladder right now with Colegio Deportivo Iquique leading. The Central region is sitting the (monthlong!) gap in the middle of "week" 11. The top 5 are no surprise, but what might be a surprise is the order! Colo-Colo lost to Santiago Morning, 1-2, in week 10, leaving them at 10W-0D-1L while Santiago Morning tops the table at 11-0-0. They're followed by Palestino (8-0-2), Universidad de Chile (7-1-3), and Everton (6-0-4)

Uruguay - The Apertura ended with the top three all even on points (and 8-0-1 records), but Penarol missed out on the Apertura final on GD. Colon, who finished the Apertura with a GD one better than Nacional, then beat Nacional 1-0 in the Apertura final. The Clausara was supposed to begin this past weekend, but I don't see results on the AUF website or on soccerway...

Venezuela - Like in Uruguay, the Apertura is now over. Estudiantes de Guarico and Flor de Patria made it to the final, where Guarico won the first leg 3-1 but lost the second leg 0-4, giving Flor de Patria their first title. We're three weeks into the Clausara, but unfortunately I can't find a table, just the week 3 and week 2 results...

Looking for full games in the Spain thread, this was held there on 1 February 2018 - Spain's champions Atlético Madrid v Colombia's Independiente Santa Fe, in a match titled the Copa Dimayor, played in Alcorcón, Madrid:

    - https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=es&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=https://www.vavel.com/colombia/futbol-colombiano/2018/01/31/santa-fe/873891-previa-atletico-de-madrid-vs-independiente-santa-fe-campeon-de-espana-vs-campeon-de-colombia.html&edit-text=&act=url (Archived, Spanish)

Another match was played this month in Bogotá, Colombia, with the current champions of both countries:

Atlético Huila v Atlético de Madrid, 4 Aug 2018 (highlights)

Huila were undone by a hat-trick from Esther Gonzalez Rodriguez, although both sides would've been without some international players:

We missed this back in June, but the 2018 CLF hosts have been chosen. Three cities, all in Brazil, bid for the tournament, and the bid coming from Manaus (Iranduba) won. Interestingly, Corinthians was one of the other three bids, but didn't get picked. I personally would have much preferred they get in, both because they were CLF17 co-champions with Audax and because they're doing so well in the league right now. Not that Iranduba are a slouch right now, by any means, but still.

The tournament will be held in November.

As a reminder, in addition to hosts Iranduba and defending champions Audax, the domestic champions currently confirmed are UAI Urquiza (ARG), Santos (BRA), Colo-Colo (CHI), Atletico Huila (COL), Cerro Porteno (PAR), JC Sport Girls (PER), Penarol (URU), and Estudiantes de Guarico (VEN). Still waiting to find the 2018 champions for BOL and ECU.

They stayed the top 2 as the group phase ended in August. These are the 8 Brazilian playoff qualifiers:

    Group A: 1 Corinthians 34pts, 2 Iranduba 27pts, 3 Kindermann 25pts, 4 Ferroviária 21pts – São José in 5th missed qualification by a point

    Group B: 1 Santos 37pts, 2 Flamengo 27pts, 3 Rio Preto 25pts, 4 Ponte Preta 19pts

    Playoff interdivisional quarter-finals start tomorrow/today, Sunday 9 September: it's 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd, playing home & away.

In the last match, Kindermann somehow managed to lose 1-0 to Iranduba, which gave the Amazon club 2nd place. The game on 22 Aug was closed to the public, as a punishment to Iranduba, because some people threw cans at a match official after the 5 July Corinthians match.

Flamengo avenged their 6-0 opening loss, with a 4-0 home win in Rio over Santos, who'd already won the group. But that's not the interesting part. Flamengo made it into a movie :coffee:

(Approximate translation, "this is our house", "play with pride in the shirt" etc)

The women's Copa do Brasil was cancelled a couple of years ago, to put more focus on the national league. But the historic regional championships are happening now in Brazil – the Paulista in São Paulo and the Carioca in Rio.

It looks like the entire Paulista is being livestreamed by the São Paulo federation (FPF), with good coverage of the games. Santos and Corinthians are the group winners heading into the semi-finals.

Argentina: This video could literally only be in South America. :inlove:

^ That was on Sunday this week - Boca v River Plate at the stadium Pedro Pompilio in Buenos Aires, a 1-1 draw. Match report says the defender Bianca Recanati was hospitalized in that penalty-box collision, but not with any broken bones.

    - https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=https://www.diariopopular.com.ar/futbol/superclasico-femenino-violento-el-planchazo-que-mando-al-hospital-una-futbolista-boca-n367750&edit-text=&act=url (Archived)

According to Spanish Wikipedia the new Argentine season has just got under way, is that right? Boca won the final of the Copa de Oro, 2-1 against UAI Urquiza - the same channel has a cool video about it from July. That's winter, remember.

A few full Argentine league games were uploaded in the past by Club Deportivo Morón, including their game last season against River Plate in February.

Seems like it! Interesting to see a split division this year.
Actually not the "the final", but the first leg of the final. ;-) UAIU won the return leg by a much bigger score.

    Brazil: The 2018 championship quarter-finals.

A big shock - the champions are out. Santos lost after topping their group, beaten by Ferroviária (Railway Club).

    Match report - Auto-translated: https://globoesporte.globo.com/sp/santos-e-regiao/noticia/nos-penaltis-ferroviaria-bate-santos-e-avanca-para-as-semifinais-do-brasileirao-feminino.ghtml (Archived)

The win was achieved on penalties, 4-3 for Ferroviária, after a 3-3 aggregate score. Away goals don't count in the Brasileirão, but that would have given the same winner.

This was the shootout – the full 2nd leg match stream is online too.

Iranduba are also out – they couldn't make their high ranking count, and lost to Rio Preto.

1st leg, Rio Preto (white) v Iranduba (green)

2nd leg was 1-1 in Manaus, and 2-1 agg. for Rio Preto

The other group winners, Corinthians, sailed past Ponte Preta (3-0 agg.), both São Paulo state clubs.

They are playing their semi-final against Flamengo, who overcame a 1-0 deficit to beat southern club Kindermann, 4-1 on aggregate.

Brazil: The two giants of São Paulo did meet in the Paulista 2018 final, this week at Vila Belmiro stadium.

In a tight match, Santos beat Corinthians with a single goal immediately after half-time. Plenty of exciting chances in the match, but there was also some diving - and other problems we'd associate more with the men's game.
(Just a flare, not a riot, but still )

This was the goal for Santos, by Chú Santos :)

So, Santos get some consolation after their championship exit. Corinthians might be worrying too - they trail their Brasileirão semi-final 2-1 to Flamengo so far.

In the state of Rio de Janeiro, the 2018 Carioca has kicked off: final on Nov 24.

From the Paulista, the FPF has announced its team of the tournament. Top-scorer was Letícia of Rio Preto - player of the tournament is Gabi Zanotti, who returned to Corinthians' midfield this year from the Chinese club Dalian. (more info: Torcederes / Gazeta Esportiva)

Man, I don't like that image... the way it's made, it look like Santos is the seeded team in group B instead of Colo-Colo. Also makes Cerro Porteno look like a Pot3 team instead of a Pot2 team.

I really hope they update the format at some point, because (historically speaking) there's often a strong team eliminated because the best-runner-up thing favors groups with weaker Pot1 seeds as those or more likely to have the 2nd-place team on 7pts. This year, it's already looking like group A is the group of life with a (relatively) weak Audax as the top seed, meaning I'm expecting three of {Santos, Colo-Colo, UAIU, Cerro Porteno, Iranduba} to be going home when a perfect draw would see just one of those five not make the semis....

    Well, I'll eat my words.

A spate of draws in group C and a relative lack of scoring in group A has meant that both Santos and Colo-Colo come out of group B into the semis, Colo-Colo doing so despite "only" getting 6pts. (It's not looking good for Colo-Colo, though, as their SF is a rematch with Santos, who beat them 4-1 already in group B.)

Thus, only two of the five "strong" teams I named earlier went home - because the three of them that were packed into group C all drew each other! And IDK WTH happened to Cerro Porteno in their last match to get embarrassed by Flor de Patria.

Santos beat Colo-Colo by 3 goals again (this time 3-0 instead of 4-1) in the first semifinal - and then every single match after that was 1-1! Iranduba only scored 1 of their first 4 PKs against Atletico Huila, but made up for it when Colo-Colo scored 0 of their first 4 PKs in the third-place match. (Ouch!!!) Atletico Huila then prevailed over Santos in the final's PKSO, leaving the Brazilian side technically undefeated but still runners-up as Huila become the first Colombian side to win the competition. Their new pro league is apparently paying off!

Huila becomes the 3rd team to qualify for the 2019 CLF, after the 2018 domestic-season winners from BRA (Corinthians) and PAR (Cerro Porteno).

Well, never seen anything alike to celebrate women's football. Only for men's football I have seen such big screaming crowds going around in the night.

Although I do have to wonder if it's more about women's football or more about the rivalry with Brazil... ;)

That's awful! I hope someone brings it up to some higher authority. Court of Arbitration for Sport or something? I mean, not getting the bonus and keeping the team would be better than getting the bonus and seeing the team disbanded as cost-cutting for the overall club, but the women shouldn't be suffering for mismanagement on the main men's team, even if the men's team is bankrolling them (which, by the sound of things, it maybe isn't anyway?).

It goes both ways: Conmebol will not license any club for male int'l competitions if it lacks a female team. So yes, a club must support female squad expenses in order to generate business with its male squad. Similar to Title IX, for US college sports.

For Conmebol purposes, club Atletico Huila is one commercial entity, it is not divided into male and female portions.

Conmebol pays tournament prizes to national FAs, which then pay to clubs; players receive whichever prize % was agreed with clubs. Both male and female athletes can get swindled, like in other world regions.

In Atletico Huila's case, its female squad pre-agreed that each winning player would receive $1k from the Conmebol prize (~$18k out of $55k paid by Conmebol).

Captain Yoreli Rincon misrepresented the prize situation, although unfair, to media in Brazil. In response, the club decided to pay $2k per female player before its champions landed on Colombia. The tournament was played (again) in Brazil.

Lack of sponsorship is a fundamental problem here. Conmebol continues to subsidize Brazilian partners by hosting its top female club tournament in Brazil (7 out of 10 Libertadores editions), and now broadcasts games via Facebook.

Maybe things will improve, now that Conmebol forces clubs to support a female squad (not sure under what standards). Women's Libertadores matches were hardly televised live, too.

Hopefully, with its new Colombian champion, the 2019 Libertadores edition
will move outside of Brazil: growth for women's football outside of Brazil.
