How hard is it to just say "we sorry". We're suckers for foreigners who give genuine apologies and/or profess some sort of love/affinity for Korea. The justification is even worse. He's basically telling us - Oh Hey! I'm just like you chinos. I have small slanted eyes! So it's ok! Eesh...

Chilean players and fans with their justifications...

All I will say is that more koreans live happily in Chile (counted by a couple of thousands), than chileans living in Korea (hardly more than 130).

Must be our "ignorance", what most attracts them.....

Really, only trying to teach you a few things.

(doing very bad at it, as it figures, based on the type of replies I'm getting)

You're legitimately trying to "teach" people that racism is a negligible offence, and that sort of mindset is not acceptable in the developed world, nor should it be anywhere else.
I understand that you're from an environment where it's tolerated, but trying to "teach" us that racism isn't a form of ignorance is like a Liberian child trying to "teach" someone that eating fruit bats is healthy and not responsible for Ebola in any way.

Aren't Chileans known for being petty thieves in South American for some reason? Koreans don't think too highly of South Americans in general and you guys are known as being generally poor, impoverished people and country low in education and class. Americans only know vaguely think of Chile when they go fruit shopping at cheap supermarkets and see a sticker that says Chile. Anyone with any money buys organic anyways. Same thing with fish. There are plenty of racist things that can be said about Chile.

The difference here is that the average Korean is cultured, educated, traveled enough to know that you don't go around insulting countries that you are visiting with racist gestures, insults, etc. Koreans can be pretty racist as well so it's actually pretty surprising when Koreans see a Chileans of obvious mixed race with sordid historical, cultural history so stupidly engage in racist insults.

It's actually sad bc it's says a lot about the plight of your country, culture, and your people.

    Nope.

I have never said anything close to that.
Racism, the same as any form of discrimination, will always be bad and wrong.

What I may say though, is that before accusing others on racism, is to put things in context, as not everything said or done related to race, is necessarily being racist.

You like it or not, but when you exacerbate things out of proportion, and specially those things related to racism, at the end you fall in being even more racist than those whom you are accusing of doing so. And the worst part from it, is that you know about what you are talking about, while those whom you are accusing, may have only acted based on ignorance, where ignorance, is no sin.

When common chileans call east asians (say chinese, mongolians, thai, koreans or japanese), they will all be called as "chinos" with no regard to whichever nation they really come from (literal translation for "chino" from spanish, is chinese, but in this case (chilean spanish), "chino" doesnt mean chinese, but oriental type of person), and the reason for this is that in the chilean dyaspora, our involvement with these any of these countries is something relatively new, where unfortunately all are portrayed, as how those who know them better, portray them (some may be very demeaning, btw). And most of our influx on this type of issues, in the past, have come from the worst sources.

Your players are not some village/barrios bumpkins just recently plucked from the land of ignorance.

They're representatives of your country. Some may be from very poor and/or parochial backgrounds. Some may be uneducated. But most are millionaires playing overseas. And all have been exposed to life outside the confines of their backgrounds. This isn't the 50s or 60s. Your team has traveled the globe. Most have lived and played football in continents other than South America.

That you expect so little from your players as sporting ambassadors of your country is truly a shame.

However, we are well within our right to scorn them for their racism as well as your fans/country/media for justifying their racist behavior as a form of innocuous, casual racism/banter while a guest in our country.

the irony in trying to convince light racism should be tolerated then displaying signs of irritation when faced with racism against his own kind
