What: DC United vs. Minnesota United When: Wednesday, September 12, 7:30 PM Where: Audi Field Why: Because United plays on Wednesdays. How to watch: In person (duh). Or on TV somehow (WJLA 24/7 locally, perhaps?) Tomorrow's match begins the season defining stretch of SEVEN consecutive home games. Minnesota is a terrible road team (1-11-1), and may be without Darwin Quintero, so this is practically a must win for the old school United. From MLS's match preview: DC (the projected starting XI is hilarious): Suspended: None Suspended after next caution: M - Chris Durkin, M - Paul Arriola (ed. note: again already?) International duty: M - Zoltan Stieber, D - Oniel Fisher (ed. note: what?!), M - Junior Moreno, F - Bruno Miranda Injury Report: OUT: D - Taylor Kemp (labrum surgery), D - Nick DeLeon (knee injury), GK - David Ousted (elbow surgery), D - Chris Odoi-Atsem (fatigue); QUESTIONABLE: M - Yamil Asad (ankle injury); PROBABLE: F - Dane Kelly (ankle injury) Projected Starting XI (4-2-3-1, right to left) GK: Bill Hamid — Kevin Ellis, Kofi Opare, Steve Birnbaum, Joseph Mora — Russell Canouse, Ulises Segura — Paul Arriola, Luciano Acosta, Darren Mattocks — Wayne Rooney Minnesota: Suspended: D - Michael Boxall, D - Francisco Calvo Suspended after next caution: None International duty: M - Romario Ibarra, M - Rasmus Schuller Injury Report: OUT: M - Sam Cronin (cervicogenic dysfunction), M - Kevin Molino (torn left ACL), M - Ethan Finlay (torn ACL); QUESTIONABLE: F - Darwin Quintero (calf injury), D - Eric Miller (undisclosed injury) Projected Starting XI (3-4-1-2, right to left) GK: Bobby Shuttleworth — Wyatt Omsberg, Brent Kallman, Jerome Thiesson — Eric Miller, Fernando Bob, Collen Warner, Collin Martin— Ibson — Angelo Rodriguez, Darwin Quintero
#WeWinWednesdays We better win this one, but we love to play down to subpar opponents to make it "interesting". Hopefully it won't be raining too hard because this new stadium is awful in the rain and the parking being so far away sure doesn't help matters when it's wet and miserable. Coming off a terrible game with a lucky result, how does the team prepare ... does it wrongfully believe their effort the other night was what they need to continue to do? Do they realize they got lucky as hell and look to change their approach? Do they truly see home and away as totally different (you would not know that from some similarly dreadful home games like Philly, Colo, NJ)? Arriola and Mattocks will be back, maybe Ellis has actually kicked a ball to a teammate in practice ...... so things could be looking up I wish we still had the stadium construction cameras to see how the pitch is acting with the constant wetness. It seems to drain okay except around the pipes for the sprinklers which doesn't drain at all. Do we even have a full-time groundskeeper? I'd start with 2 forwards, get a 2 or 3 goal lead, then pull Rooney for rest. This will not happen. So we'll instead rely on Bill Hamid to keep the score close and squeak one out instead. DCU - 2 Loony team who stole our name (though less blatantly than that other team who also stole our name) - 1 nice raccoon
I think we actually TCB tomorrow. Saturday was dreadful, but the team doesn't play like that anymore, especially at home. Terrible circumstances for a game. 4-0 - Rooney (Acosta), Acosta (Rooney), Arriola (Acosta), and a defender.
Hope so. Even if Florence doesn't directly impact the DC area, it looks like they are forecasting some very high humidity.
Traveled from Seattle to be at this and Sunday's games. I suspect they come out flat, 0-0 at halftime. Own goal for a 1:0 lead and then Team Target presses and Mattocks scores on a counter. 2-0 black/red.
I thought I saw that Goff reported Fischer is called up to Jamaica, but on twitter Oneil seems to indicate he's playing tonight w club?
He was called up initially, but then didn't go because of a hamstring problem. He may have recovered between NYC and tonight.
I believe it was Chad Ashton on the field during warmups instead of the normal Zach Thorton. Any speculation why this is so?
Bought an ESPN+ subscription because I can't get WJLA 24/7 Super Max 360 (or whatever it's called). Getting a message that says "The program you are trying to watch is not currently available with your subscription." Am I being blocked because of blackout rules? I'm trying to watch the game on a Roku TV in Deale, Maryland.
No idea. I'm sitting in DC and it's on my TV. I saw the lineups for Minnesota Loons and ...Burch. is that.... no way! Yup. it is.
Thanks but grrrr...I can't get the channel it's on. Will not renew ESPN+ next month, obviously. Am now watching a pirate feed. I really don't understand the business logic of all that. I want to give someone my damn dollars to watch the game.
We need someone to take a few of those Clyde Simms shots from outside the box. These little tippy-toe passes trying to walk the ball into the box only to be dispossessed are infuriating -- and a really poor technique for scoring.
